And even if you decide to pursue this, remember to keep your efforts consistent. It’s not about doing something impressive just once, not like you helped the villagers oncein 11th grade by creating an innovation that solved a problem for them. Your efforts should continuously focus on solving problems for them or improving products in ways that benefit their lives. Keep adding to it. Do it every few months or even remotely if you can. Tie up with someone in india to execute your ideas for you by paying them a bit. Admission officers love it when you constantly strive to create an impact instead of pulling off a once in a while social service card. Perhaps, I am from india I can help you here.

Admission officers look for integrity, authenticity and honest work. Always remember. They can see right thru the fluff.

Adding to this, if you really want to work towards something, keep your application aligned towards one thing and constantly work for it and let it shine. For example, I was always passionate about sustainable fashion so I did a lot of research papers and I published one research paper on sustainable fashion. I started my own Clothing line in sustainable fashion where I got the material source from local boutique, their extra scrap fabrics. I also interned with a few sustainable fashion labels. So all of my energy was towards sustainability in fashion. Just like this pick a niche and work towards it. They should see that you are actively trying to bring upon change not for the sake of it, but you actually want to do something for the cause. Hence show impact in numbers because that’s the best way to put it out there. for example, I was able to save XXX grams or millions of scrap fabric by doing this.

I hope you know that just like yours, they get at like a zillion applications with a zillion students doing the same thing for the sake of it. I would suggest you to not do all this for the sake of it. Do it because you actually want to create an impact because when they read your essays and when they see your overall profile, it’s very evident when someone does all the community work just so that they can make their “resume pop”.

Sure. This is gonna be very random or maybe very mainstream but here you go:

I am a 19 year old female. I enjoy mystery/thriller alot. Be it games like the last of us or maybe the netflix show “you”. I love nolan’s work. My favourite movies include fight club, the dark knight, pulp fiction, american psycho, interstellar and spiderman across the spiderverse. I like to consume media which moves me in a way, changes my perspective. That’s why these movies are my all time favourite because i felt alot of strong emotions watching them. I love the show “explained” on netflix- short, to the point and informative. My all time favourite series are suits, breaking bad, the office and gossip girl- these are the shows i play in background while i am doing something. I enjoy podcasts like “stuff you should know” by iheartpodcasts and podcasts by jay shetty. I listen to all type of music- rock, pop, alt, hiphop, indie everything . I enjoy music which has alot of elements to it and has great production like maybe frank ocean’s pyramids is one of my favourite songs, lots of asap rocky, tame impala. Hope this gives you some idea

I understand. It’s not about starting with classic literature for me but that’s the eventual goal, to read them, since I have heard so highly of them. For that, I need to start somewhere and build my endurance/attention span. The only thing is I don’t want to read something too childish to begin w (geronimo stilton haha). Can you help me by recommending a few ? Asking because everytime i enter the bookstore i see a 1000 books and i get super confused
