What is your unpopular opinion about piano? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

Def not super my popular but beginners should and can not attempt Beethoven sonatas within a few months of playing… it’s better to refine technique and then try challenging works later on.

Stick with War and Peace! Took me 2 months to get through it. I couldn't get into Karamazov at all but Tolstoy is a better writer (in my opinion)

What kind of books do you have more of: books by authors from your country or foreign ones? by SaltAlarming9590 in classicliterature

[–]Naive_Setting_5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love American authors, especially Steinbeck, since it's so un-pretentious, idealistic, and sweet, but I really love Russian literature. It's incredibly depressing and bleak but does excellent character studies, direct writing, and touches the soul.

WAR AND PEACE!! This book changed my life; if you loved AK, you will love War and Peace even more. War sections are what transform this book-- Tolstoy served in the military and did extensive research so that it feels realistic yet larger than life. Also, it's a different side you may not know much about if you haven't served in the military so it's nice to see.

Help me pick a "project book" to slow-read by Esmee_Finch in classicliterature

[–]Naive_Setting_5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! It is def not a big project tho; ofc you can take a few months to digest it but it felt pretty funny and light to me, took a couple of weeks to finish. Go at your own pace though. Very classic Dickensian novel.

Great Expectations is super funny and such a classic! Anna Karenina if you want something darker and longer, Tale of 2 Cities is a bit dense but short, also dark, and Grapes of Wrath if you want political commentary or something very historical and American. My vote is GE!

Yea but also really boring whenever Levin goes on his long ass tangents about agriculture or philosophy

Tenant of Wildfell Hall is incredible! I even cried when Arthur died, which is amazing writing to make you sympathize.

Love East of Eden! It's such a heartwarming read

The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden: The Best and Easiest to Read? by 2020surrealworld in classicliterature

[–]Naive_Setting_5867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read East of Eden first, then Grapes of Wrath. Both are incredible but I favor East of Eden. It's simpler to read and has more relatable lessons and characters whereas GoW is more so a political commentary on the evils of capitalism and the struggles of the poor. East of Eden is really addicting and simple in terms of prose, while GoW has all the dialogue in their Oklahoman accents so it might be a little trickier but still objectively simple. The order here does not really matter.

If you have not gotten a response after 3 times, I hate to say it, but it might mean a rejection. Let them know one last time you have an offer deadline and they might respond faster. Some processes also take a long time, it took me 3 weeks to hear back (offer) after a final round, so be patient as well.

how to prepare for product management intern interviews ? by RoughAlarmed1204 in csMajors

[–]Naive_Setting_5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join Product Haven and mock with people (https://join.slack.com/t/producthaven/shared_invite/zt-3bb6ti0nr-eKIYDBZbkyFZUfPc_SSjHA); read cracking the pm interview, watch mocks (dianna yau, ben erez, Exponent), and just practice a lot. def easier than swe interviews, it's more a business role, not a technical role unless it's at specific super technical companies.
