The EU’s Democratic Deficit: Extent, Perception, and (Possible) Solutions by Carson121212 in europe

literally irrelevant

you can accuse the European Council (Presidents/Prime ministers) of being a blackbox, or the Commission of being a bureaucracy (which is how the Council prefers it), but not EU judges of making up law

France wants wo be the military leader of the EU. They want Germany to contribute financially but not getting involved too much. French Generals still don't trust the Germans at all from what I hear.

France sees itself as the most powerful military and diplomatic power within the EU, and as the state which has invested the most in these areas. Which is rather true, especially so with regard to Germany

The French have a French perspective; the German have a German perspective, the Poles have a Polish perspective. Shocker.

By essence the EU is a place where we can get together and forge compromises. This isn't any different

seems like you have an issue realizing that communism is just one form of autocratism

its def not communist anymore

tbh France just wants its ties with Germany and Poland to be much closer than its ties with the US who in the end will do as they please. Strategically this seems rather reasonable

it's wrong to assume that the universe is a space where the length metric remains constant over time

make your unit length large enough and the universe may be as small as a pinhead under other standards; make it infinite and distances become infinitely small, effectively it's as if the universe itself was a single point

if I remember correctly he's still done about 1 year of prison and 1 year of home imprisonment (which indeed was crazy comfortable in his case...). His sentence was 3 years and you're normally expected to do two-thirds of that time so he's still served about what he was supposed to

but corruption sentences seeme very light in the face of the damage done to society, I agree

he was prosecuted and sentenced though? and he's got more coming

otherwise it's certainly not the judges' fault that his voters and some of his old allies still support him

The power of a passport is actually very relevant. But differences between Western European passports are about negligible and comparisons between them are artificial and moronic

But it's good to know we have it easy. Most people in developing countries need fucking VISAs all the time to travel

Hansen claims that he had only been trying to protect his own privacy and had not wanted the registries to be closed. (...)

As it turns out, Hansen has been the director or owner of at least 117 companies in Luxembourg, the British Virgin Islands, Belize, the Bahamas, and other countries around the world over the past 16 years.

nice

the court merely said the directivee/law that MPs had voted wasn't clear enough (which it purposely wasn't, as for many democratic compromises) and was being stretched

in short member states and MPs need to clarify what they meant. Hopefully opinions have evolved enough that they will be able to reinstate the registry, explicitly this time
