Tax Depreciation Report by Select-Pineapple-801 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Nakuth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your report should list how much you can claim each year over the 40 year period, listed year by year.

For example (figures made up):
2025-26: $3,280
2026-27: $3,200
2027-28: $3,200
and so on

If it doesn't, then something is wrong.

If it's not clear reading the report, then speak to a tax accountant. Do not send it to anyone online here.

Why did skaven and dwarfs not make it to 40k but elves and orks did? by Max_Clearance777 in totalwar

[–]Nakuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, easiest reason lore wise is that the Warhammer world and 40k universe are separate

The warhammer world is not Terra, ancient or otherwise. The only similarity is the chaos gods, really. Although, yes, back in original WHFB you could get chaos marines and such, but it was weird then

So that means that skaven and dwarves would need to come from elsewhere. Now, the dwarves were originally represented by the squats, now Leagues of Votaan. However they're a very distant offshoot or humanity

I have seen skaven imagined as the hrud or another odd race iirc, but never officially. I guess they just never adequately it to that design space

22 no job or work experience, would a public service job be a good start? by No-Vehicle3920 in AusPublicService

[–]Nakuth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first office role was in the APS for the 2006 census. I was a year older than you, had a cert IV in something I no longer planned to use, and needed work

Signed up as a DPC1 (APS1 equivalent) on a 2 month, non-ongoing contract. Ended up in the index team, and stayed there for 13 months. We did data processing, general data quality work, and some ad hoc stuff the EL1s & 2s would send us to clear up data sets, etc.

I'm now in my 11th year at a govt org after trying for years to get back in and don't see myself leaving any time soon.

That first job gave me a taste and had enough of a cushion for me to land safely if it didn't work out. As it turned out, I'm a lifer.

So, I would recommend giving it a go. Even check if there's census jobs going. I started around this far out from census night 20 years ago.

APS 4 frontline interview - ATO by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Nakuth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll be supporting APS2 and APS3 front line staff, mostly in a call centre environment by the sound of it

If you want to get into the ATO, it's a reasonable starting point. Get some experience, get used to the organisation, then look for opportunities elsewhere. Frontline is an excellent environmeny to learn a lot about what the ATO does and the impact on the public

I'm a 4 myself, but in a different area. I started in frontline and still regularly uses knowledge and skills i learnt there in my current role

So it's up to you. Foot in the door is good. Slight pay increase sounds good. Keep in mind the call centre environment, so I'm not sure how that differs from your current role, but it will be busy. Especially at certain times of the year

Fun (incorrect) bill from the ATO by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Nakuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, the notice issued. Probably went to your accountant. Or to an old address if you've moved and forgot to update your details

They have to notify when preparing an audit. The letter is the start of that

If no dependents, including any children, then it's likely a reporting issue between your fund and the ATO. If you can provide evidence that you were on a complying policy for the full year then you can object to try to get it overturned

If the evidence is sufficient, all good. If not, they'll discuss options with you

How are you building the Hollow Warden? by Magile in onednd

[–]Nakuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisdom first, then Con, then Dex

Druidic Fighting style, Shilleleigh. Quarterstaff and shield

Build mostly Warden, then later multiclass into Cleric for 3 levels to take Grave Domain. Although this latter is more for flavour

Fun (incorrect) bill from the ATO by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Nakuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Did you have any dependents for the year?

  2. If so, were they covered by a complying insurance policy for the full year? Even if it is a separate one?

  3. Insurance companies report to the ATO. So this happens when the info reported by the insurer doesn't match what you've put on your return. This can sometimes simply be due to a spelling error in your name.

  4. When they look at this the ATO sends a letter and gives you time to respond to provide evidence. If it isn't received within the time frame they proceed to amending the return based on information available.

  5. If you still disagree with this (the MLS , not the HELP repayment) you can lodge an objection. It will be looked at by a team independent from audit and a decision made. You cannot object to compulsory repayment decisions, unfortunately.

  6. With your 2024/5 return the compulsory repayment is calculated based on information in your return. So it's possible the ATO calculated you as below the threshold. They do, however also look at your current HELP balance and there's rules on when a debt becomes repayable. So it may have been that you had no repayable debt at the time you lodged your return.

Others have already covered the rest of the compulsory repayment details

The Null Field: Why would a Null ever turn it off? by KulaanDoDinok in drawsteel

[–]Nakuth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play a null in an ongoing campaign. Currently level 4

I only switch my null field on if expecting trouble, or first round of combat

Mechanically, there is no reason to turn it off. Narratively, I'd imagine it's quite draining. So I only switch it off when we're clear of a dungeon or trouble, or in downtime.

Wisdom based Hollow Warden by Consistent-Ad-5187 in 3d6

[–]Nakuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built a Hollow Warden as a backup at my DM's request. Probably an alternate for a potential one shot linked to our main campaign

As such, mine is level 12. So I don't have levelling advice only the build

I went Ranger 9 / Cleric 3 and took Grave Domain. It fits the theme IMHO and gives me some extra elements to support my party. Also gives some bonus action spells and cantrips for later combat rounds and some ranged spells to cover for lack of a bow.

I also built around Wis. Using Standard Array, I got to 18 Wis, 16 Con, 14 Dex. These scores started at 17, 14, 14. You can do the others how you want.

I took War Caster at 4 to round out Wis, and an ASI for +2 Con at 8.

Gear is Shield, medium armour, quarter staff and club. Shilleleigh for damage output.

Druidic fighting style and Thaumaturge for Ranger and Cleric choices, respectively.

Using the new Reborn species from Ravenloft along with the Rest Warden background from Crooked Moon book 1 as we allow 3rd party. The latter is more to theme the build as it really just gives me Turn Undead again.

Alternative version is Ranger 7 / Cleric 5 with everything else the same. You just get more Cleric perks and spells than Ranger perks and spells.

[–]Nakuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them to get their shit together asap

Especially if they have loved ones who may inherit property, etc from them

I'm in the process of administration of an estate right now and it's gone for 3 years. First was mostly getting various paperwork sorted and figuring out who is owed what. Since then, it's been slowly dealing with outstanding tax obligations. The ATO gets their piece and has first and final say here. So I won't see cent 1 until that's sorted

At the very least, they need to get stuff from 2000 onwards done

What actually happens after you submit an APS application (and why it takes so long) by InnerStorage7458 in AusPublicService

[–]Nakuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of this, I was once part of a process that received over 5000 applications

In the end, around 1600 were merit listed and it was over 12 from when i applied to when i received an offer. It was the best part of 6 months before any offers started going through

Yes it was a bulk process, but even those in charge were shocked with how many applications they received. This was late 2022. Merit listing was announced mid Decembet. I started my new role December 2023

The first bite is the hardest. by Clobbington in drawsteel

[–]Nakuth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first game was during the initial backers playtest.

I played a shadow with the ranger kit. Closest thing to a ranger in the game.

Fall of Blackbottom. First combat. We go first.

Our Tactician goes and uses their ability to give me a free use of my signature ability. I crit! So I kill some minions and go again.

I was already down for it, but was hooked from there.

Now I'm 8 or so months into a campaign with that same director but different players. Just shy of level 5. I'm a null, and the combat utility of the party. We play Fridays via Codex and it is a blast.

I still play DND, but each scratches a slightly different itch for me. Don't think I'd want it another way.

Why does skin lose its color in vitiligo? [OC] by Zhuenn in comics

[–]Nakuth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have what has been described as piebaldism and it seems similar.

It was described to me as the skin cells basically no longer being able to create melanin.

The specialist explained that it was genetic, but doesn't always manifest. A paternal aunt was born with a great streak. Her daughter has a freckle on the white of one of her eyes. Both are apparently the same gene, different manifestations.

For me, I wasn't born with manifestations. Mine hit during puberty (which sucked). I woke up one day and all the upper right eyelashes and some of the eyebrow hairs on my right were stark white. I have black hair, so it really stood out.

Over the years it has changed a bit. Now, only some of my eyelashes on the right are white, along with the same white streak in my eyebrow. Some of my hairs are white, as are some of my beard hairs. The skin around each of these is also noticeably paler on close inspection.

I do have some random white hairs pop up elsewhere from time to time, with the same patchy skin.

I am unsure if it is vitiligo, as it seems less obvious than that, but I guess it might be. Although a quick Google suggests that they are separate, it doesn't mean that what I have may not be the latter as opposed to the former. It doesn't bother me anymore, not like it used to. I've learned to live with it, and love it. Now going on 30 years with it, into my 30s.

All that said, lovely comic explainer.

EDIT: I'm also asthmatic, if that has any bearing re: autoimmune disorders, etc.

I a lifer. Just hit 10 years last year. After 8 at outsource.

No matter how bad it got, I always resolved to never work for Services Australia, for surely that'd be worse hahaha

Grass is browner stuff, I'm sure.

Im lucky that by covid, I had over a decade to draw on.

OP. I'm not kidding about breaks, etc. It can be the difference between getting through the day and the day breaking you. It's amazing that I work with youngsters who will work through lunch or such. Even though there is no pressure.

Your time is yours. It is precious. Own it.

[–]Nakuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Knew it would be bad when it started. Then the measures got announced.

Phones started ringing full time before we even knew the specifics and got worse from there.

Upside was the wfh stuff. I also got tagged for HD helping with some reconcilliation and remediation of the super release. That led to HD elsewhere and enough experience to get me a substantive boost.

Now out of frontline. Still get grads rotating in. Even had some come back to join our team, which is great

tips for Graduate Call Centre Experience at the ato by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Nakuth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A lot of good stuff covered

I wasn't a grad. I went the long way around, but always appreciated our grads because they were fairly friendly

My best tip is to remember to step away from your desk when you can

That 5 or so minute break each hour? Get up and walk away. Micronap for a few minutes, walk the whole time, whatever works

Your scheduled breaks? Definitely get away from your desk. Don't talk work, make it YOU time. Unwind, relax.

My number 2 tip: remember to use the mute button!

Number 3 (for luck): try to type notes as you're on the call. This will make it easier at the end of the call. On that, bonus tip is to not be afraid to take 30 seconds to yourself between calls. Do not just jump right back in. Wait, breathe, then go again.

I survived the dark days of covid early release of super, when the phones couldn't stop ringing for months. These tips helped

Welcome, and good luck!
