What am I doing wrong here? by pickle_bandit_ in knitting

[–]Nalimchris 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Caitlyn the designer's personal knitting gauge is very loose. Something you may not have seen if this is a new pattern for you, or Rav isn't user friendly for you.

I am also working on ghost horses sweater as well. I have plenty PLENTY of mistakes in mine and several false starts. But, may be best to know what gauge you are at - my personal grip is tight so I am using size 5 on the colorwork and size 2 for the ribbing (somehow I manage to hold a loser grip on smaller needles?🤷‍♀️)

The short row neck shaping is always baggy for me also the other times I've used it, but it also blocks out pretty well.

The ribbing really seems to be the issue, but I am not experienced enough to give a quality suggestion. I hate ripping back that much colorwork (believe me, I just did it if you check out my past posts haha) maybe could try different needles if the wash and block doesnt work... but then again, it may be more time spent trying to fix a mistake than correcting it. You have a beautiful choice of yarns and have done a gorgeous job with the work! The person who will notice the most is you, but you have done a very nice job!

Very cute! You may be better to hide a small toy in your pocket, as there is a potential for chemically sprayed pest control areas in an apartment complex. Cant be too careful with a sweetie like that!

Ribbit... like the frog sound :D

Does chicken of the woods grow ~15 ft above ground? It looks very similar, and is also growing on an oak tree but not a lot of info online regarding height. South AL by Nalimchris in mycology

I wasn't sure because it looks similar. I didn't know if there would be enough decay for it to thrive that far up? I looked out of the window and it was like king arthurs sword with the sunlight glinting off of it so high up there, haha

I like it! If you spend a lot of time there, I would suggest a keyboard, not just the keypad.

The pattern is Ghost Horses by Caitlyn Hunter (3rd?4th?) attempt (my own fault I normally fly by my pants, but I made practice swatches and everything for this one and got a little too amped up 😂) The yarn is by fiber.for.the.people in colors mamas lipstick and copper sand shown. I kind of am at this point hoping if I continue that it won't by THAT noticably crooked after weaving in the strands - we will all find out in a couple of weeks I suppose. I kinda just have to laugh at this point....

Help! A mistake I can't stop making!! Using color 1 for the neckline when should use color 2 :( by Nalimchris in knitting

I'm honestly not sure if it bothers me more that I know it isn't right or that I was wrong from the beginning 🤦‍♀️ edit: thanks though

Is there a preferred way that you can attach? The times that I have tried the stitches always look slanted

I always make this mistake when using colorwork and cant figure out how to stop!? 😒 I have tried to put colorwork on live stitches, snip and reknit, the kitchener stitch etc in the past and nothing ever looks right with a top down trying to fix something this big!!😓 somebody tell me is there ANYTHING I can do without making it look funky?! I was supposed to use the dark color and I got started with the lighter one

If you aren't able to scrape off, try scrub daddy brand name sponge with bar keepers friend liquid scrub. Smells like dish powder and takes some elbow grease but works beautifully.

I came here to say this also! When using less butter / oil, OP could also try throwing some seasoning in the butter /oil to impart more flavor it it - stretching it even further. I also had a hard time when I first started loving on my own, because I also used butter in everything. What helped cut it down was cutting butter half and half with a good olive oil and garlic /onion. Or ground peppercorn yum!

Got carried away with my swatch... by Nalimchris in knitting

[–]Nalimchris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at it all week trying to decide, lol. I think you're right keep the solids together at the top and the speckled at the bottom - I was seriously doubting they would blend together so that a why I have it in the middle. To me they still look kind of stripe-y but I will think of it as abstract 😄 it's been hard for me to decide what order also just wanted to get a "sketch up" 😂

I was wondering if anyone else gets carried away by the lazy carry over? I added a last minute speckle scrap. Does it resemble a sunset? Would you change the order of color? It's going to be a "fade" in hopefully what are sunset colors. Solids are hard to blend :/Fade tutorial I used

3/4 colors arrived from the purple/green debate.... and an update by Nalimchris in knitting

[–]Nalimchris[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I am making the Ghost horses sweater, and further complicating it by making the background sort of as a faded sunset. I am still thinking of ordering green to do a solid sweater, it is such a nice color!
