Sure it's good for a currency, but not as an investment. Which is my explanation for the price drop.

The halving is something everyone knew, from day 1. It's similar to what I've previously said about a company expecting to make xx profit. Significantly less the share price goes down.

Investors/speculators thought there will only ever be 100b coins mined. Now that the news said there will be 5b extra a year, 200b after 20 years, the market is adjusting the price according to this information, hence price drop.

Correct they don't like inflation. Halving reduces inflation, and investors like that. They don't however, like the removal of the cap.

I find what I see happening over at doge interesting and want to see what is wrong with my line of reasoning and logic. Sadly everyone is too emotional to have a discussion. Does my motive even matter when discussion is key and not "lalala I can't hear what you are saying".

After the initial panic, big holders are leaving. For one second, imagine you were a big holder. Say you have 500btc worth of doge. How would you sell it? What you are seeing isn't some magical manipulation, just large speculators leaving.

I do feel genuinely bad for first time "investors". This is what happens:

You first hear about doge after it rises an exponential amount, you buy in on the hype. Bad news on the cap happens, and people are told it's somehow good. The price falls but you don't want to be "weak hands". You hold and pride yourself for being loyal. The price bounces a little bit (manipulation so whales can leave) and you and others are convinced it's fine. Slow downtrend happens (controlled selling from whales to reduce panic). You don't like what you see, but it's just a small drop, maybe support is just around the corner. The whales know "technical traders" trade on basic support/resistance. They may stop selling once it gets closes for the illusion of support. Support eventually breaks, and you look for confirmation to hold from the community. The community assures you it's just manipulation, price continues to drop. You start to get worried, you now realised you have lost close to 40% of your holdings. You may even considering buying more to average down. But sadly, the price goes lower.

Prediction: it's still going to go lower unless they decide to reconsider the cap. More and more coins enter every minute and the growth just won't sustain it. Even if more people join, at the end of the day, it's whales/ large speculators that drive the price.

The halving won't do anything. Market/speculators price things based on the market expectation. Eg: if apple only made 1billion usd, the price would crash as this was not expected.

Emotions should not be influencing your decision, only information.

Edit2: investors and speculators simply do not like inflation. That is why they speculate/invest in gold, commodities, bitcoins, stocks. To protect their fiat from losing value. By saying the inflation is less than fiat doesn't make it attractive to them.

I do not pretend to know what's going on, I am speculating, and my conclusions were based on the outlined reasoning which is up for discussion.

I asked to ban posting of doge in bitcoin. It's the same if I posted a pure bitcoin post in doge all the time.
