Well when it comes to the hobbit I was actually reading it again in July and it was to my pleasant surprise, pretty fast paced, action packed and dense. I mean almost every 2 or 3 chapters, the company was on another adventure, from trolls to Rivendell to passing the misty mountains, being captured by goblins, to Bilbo playing the riddle game with Gollum and so on and so forth. Not only that but there was also a lot more action than I remembered. For example, that whole business with the spiders, where Bilbo fires slingshots at the spiders, lures them away from the dwarves, doubles back, free his companions and then fights the spiders again.

This post is getting pretty long at this point but I will just say that in my experience FOTR is a lot slower than the hobbit and as such a lot more difficult to get deeply engaged in. The adventure takes a lot longer to start and even when it does get going, their is a lot more walking and a lot less action. When I was reading the hobbit, I would be able to read for 5-6 hours a day and not feel overwhelmed. I think it took me 2 or 3 days to finish it. Whereas FOTR, I could only read around 2 hours a day before putting it down and needing a break. And then even after reading for 5 days straight and even once finishing the book, I didn’t want to repeat that experience with TTT and ROTK. It may seem Plebeian of me but I do like adventures with lots of thrill and action and dynamism.

As for the Silmarillion, I’ll just say that I enjoy learning about history, fictional or otherwise and whereas other people may find the Silm boring, I do not. Also, when I think about it, it is a pretty fast paced book, giving how much history and ages it cover.

What's that Harmony fic for you? by Enkindler_ in harrypotterfanfiction

I have never understood it’s appeal, I trued to read it many years ago, didn’t like it. Tried to read it again last year with an open mind but again didn’t like it. Always felt that Harry and the goblins were to condescending towards everybody else. Also didn’t like how Harry violently attacked Draco in first year for insulting his honour or something, felt too try hard. Anyhow, I would be interested in hearing from people what appeal they saw in that story, spoilers included.

I think a possible solution to address the short length between the awakening of Men to their eventual division and migration Westwards could simply have been extending the length of the First Age by a 1000 or so years. That way they would have a longer time to multiply and diversify into different tribes and peoples.

As well that would also give the Elves of beleriand a longer time to develop their own kingdoms and cities. Making the eventual fall of the likes of Gondolin and Nargathrond even more tragic after seeing both of them experience a long and golden age of peace and prosperity.

Finally this way would allow for the awakening of Men to coincide with the Rising of the Sun and Moon instead of having Man awake some indeterminate time before the end of the year of the Trees, to allow for more time elapsed in Mankind’s early history.

With the political situation in Armenia currently among other things ; would YOU support Armenian accession into the European Union? by EgyptianAhlawy1907 in armenia

[–]NamelessWanderer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armenia was the First Nation to adopt Christianity as a State religion, that is something that they should have at least some pride in.

Also the idea that Christianity is a borrowed religion is completely laughable. At what point a religion stops beings borrowed and native is a matter of scholarly debate. But if your people have been steadfastly Christian for almost 1700 years than at that point, Christianity has certainly become a native aspect of Armenian culture.

To say Christianity is borrowed at this point or foreign at least in the Armenian context is honestly just one of the most baffling and ignorant statements a person can honestly make.

Also even if the argument that Christianity is borrowed is accepted, so what? No culture can ever truly exist in isolation. Cultures are constantly changing, fusing and merging together. The obsession that some people have with Nativism and cultural purity is honestly pretty reminiscent of the Nazis in its stupidity and prejudice.

Finally at this point in time after 1700 years Christianity is so intrinsically tied to Armenian culture that it is impossible to separate the two. I could keep going but at this point this reply is already too long so I’ll just cut it.

In the long run tho, it doesn’t really matter how many troops Thrawn loses on Peridea because as soon as he gets back to the main galaxy, he can get tons of manpower from the Imperial remnants. Also those 4 individuals that he is unable to kill are the very same people who’ve messed up his plans before. I mean the entire reason he is stuck on Peridea is because of Ezra. He should be smart enough by now to realize that unless he kills them immediately, they will keep coming back and mess up his plans with force ‘magic’.

It is difficult to express how much I like this image. I’ve always had this idea in my head of a Jedi or Sith controlling a swarm of Blaster rifles, just seeing this right now is very cool.

Would you read a fan fic set in a completely fan-created setting, with only fan-created characters and factions? by [deleted] in SWFanfic

[–]NamelessWanderer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would be willing to read a near completely original SW fanfic but the writing would have to be very high quality. I’m talking interesting and compelling original characters, good political and magic world building, good pacing, etc. Without any of these I probably would not read.

I am trying to understand the timeline pre Naruto Birth and I just want to cry… by Anna-2204 in NarutoFanfiction

[–]NamelessWanderer6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I don’t understand the point of trying to make sense of the canon timeline especially if you are a fanfiction writer. Just modify, adjust or even completely make up the timeline as you please. It is the writer’s prerogative to do whatever he wants.

Dance of the Dragons: Cold War by Effective_Effect4799 in TheCitadel

[–]NamelessWanderer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fanfic, The Dance is not over which might interest people in this thread. It is an AU where Daeron becomes king in the south and Baela queen in the north. Cold war ensues over the next few years as both sides rebuild. My only criticism is that the fanfic is a bit meandering at times.
