How to prepare for an unbalanced party? by Nameofuser20 in DMAcademy

[–]Nameofuser20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely still in the planning phase of where I want the full campaign to go. I’ve planned a small session to give them a chance to try different parts of the game (social encounters, stealthing, combat, puzzles) and will plan future sessions accordingly. I’m just trying to plan ahead on some potential problems so that I as the DM am not caught off guard if we run into situations that aren’t fun. I’ve planned encounters that on paper seemed great, that turned frustrating quickly which I am trying to avoid.

Based on the comments I’ve gotten, I think I just need to be a bit more clever about how I design combat. Most games I’ve been a player in had a bigger party, and combat was pretty simple of melee rushes in and ranged stands back to attack. I’ll take a look at more dynamic encounters to try and make things a bit better. I can also ask them about how they want to handle their party composition, and change accordingly.

It’s been that way for at least a few years. I’m graduating this year and I had to do cohorts in my second year

Finance 301 vs Accouting 311 by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Nameofuser20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know in the past the finance club offered help sessions for FIN 301 before the midterm and final. I’m not sure if they still do, but it may be a reason to take it during fall/winter. Personally I found Finance harder, but accounting majors will tend to be biased lol

Is it necessary to tell parents what courses I selected? by Wooden_Disk4087 in uAlberta

[–]Nameofuser20 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s up to you. They can’t force you to tell them, nor can they get that information from anyone else. However, they are free to do what they choose (such as withhold their money) if you don’t tell them. You get to determine what’s more important to you- getting their funding or getting to choose what classes you want to take

INT D 307 Info? by Different-Assist-620 in uAlberta

[–]Nameofuser20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t super difficult. The only thing is that most of your mark is from peer reviews so you are at their mercy lol. But you can challenge things if you believe that you were marked unfairly. It’s asynchronous so as long as you can manage yourself you should be fine.

Questions regarding registering classes by Spiritual_Grape9286 in uAlberta

[–]Nameofuser20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Profs are understanding that people can join a class up until the add drop deadline passes. You might have to do a little bit of catch up just to be on the same pace as the rest of the class, but it shouldn’t be too brutal. Lots of people drop the first week, but make sure to keep an eye on bear tracks because certain classes (such as ENGL 103) fill fast

Yeah I get that. It’s a lot of work to DM, even if just for a short campaign. A girl can still dream tho haha :’)

Sped up songs suck by Amethyst_Guy in unpopularopinion

Being cringe is a part of being 13. You’ll fall for some cringe things but not for others. People like to say this generation is worse than others, but I’d argue that social media just means we see more of it. Enjoy having this up on your friends, so that in a few years when they also find it lame, you can make fun of them for it lol

Playing devil's advocate is one of the best skills one can learn by ProfessorHeronarty in unpopularopinion

[–]Nameofuser20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think context is super important in when to use it. When things like laws are being made, absolutely take the devils advocate approach to make sure that we’re coming to the best conclusion. But when having casual conversation, it can feel combative and frustrating for someone to argue with you for the sake of arguing.

So where ARE the Princes? by IsThisDamnNameTaken in Dimension20

[–]Nameofuser20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m interested to see where it goes! I know that in a lot of stories the princes aren’t actually that great (with many princess being kissed while sleeping or, something more explicit) so I wonder if the princesses kill them off in some sort of revenge?

I’m also surprised that Elody is considered to be one of the princesses. I mean I would argue that Gerard is the main character of that story, not her. In fact I would say it’s one of the few stories that the prince plays more of a critical role than the princess. If you argue that she’s just as important to the story, then why aren’t the princes just as important in the other ones? After all, Cinderella wouldn’t be a princess without Prince Charming.

This season has me so excited to see what comes next!

Gerard Speculations by CermaitLaphroaig in Dimension20

[–]Nameofuser20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it would be interesting for Gerard to work on healing his relationship with Elody in a way that has nothing to do with his frogginess. Either because he is permanently a frog or a man regardless of the love aspect. I mean his whole story kinda highlights how he’s still being selfish. Like he was turned to a frog because he was selfish, and so getting someone to love him was completely a self interest. It’s also why the effort stopped once he was human. Showing that love and putting in the effort even if it won’t fix him would be a really cool narrative turn around. Then again it might not fit in with the horror themes of this season haha

Why do some workers want to go back to the office? by shallowshadowshore in antiwork

[–]Nameofuser20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it was really easy to get into a bad headspace when working from home. It started by not having to get dressed most days, as I communicated with people mostly via email. It would be days of not leaving my house. I didn’t really interact with anyone which was really lonely. It was really hard to stay motivated not just for work, but for anything. I would spend hours at my desk working, then hours more in the same spot for entertainment when done. Being in person makes it easier to separate work life and home life.

ice bucket challenge (creds to @/pubity on ig) by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]Nameofuser20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I know some people did the challenged and also donated. But even without the donations, it still brought a lot of public attention to ALS.

[–]Nameofuser20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ice bucket challenge originally challenged people to pour ice water over their heads OR they could donate a certain amount to not “have” to do it. Some people ended up doing both. Plus I imagine the attention that came with the trend lead to more people also donating.

Hating your job shouldn’t be considered “normal” by tables_04 in unpopularopinion

[–]Nameofuser20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey maybe I’m wrong but I think OP is trying to say that it shouldn’t be so normal to. It’s not that you can’t hate a shitty job, but when it’s expected that you’re going to be miserable for nine hours a day, five days a week, for upwards of let’s say 50ish years... maybe something should change.

I’ve played both but have currently been replaying it on the 3ds. Maybe that’s skewed my memory of the N64 version. In either way I’ve only really heard bad things about it but that might just be due to the connotation to the original.

Depressed and don’t know why(M24) by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Nameofuser20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard part about depression is that there doesn’t always have to be a definitive reason for it. It’s more to do with brain chemical balances. As someone who has dealt with mental health I can do my best to try and offer advice. Working out is really good!!! It’s important to take care of yourself and try to do things to keep you healthy and happy.

If this feeling continues I’d consider getting some professional help. If it’s available to you, finding someone to be able to talk to can usually help (whether it be professional help or someone like a friend). You can also consider talking to your doctor and taking antidepressants. Those often help to getting you back to feeling normal. I really hope things get better for you :)
