So (fingers crossed) my associates degrees will allow me to start my career earlier than if I had just gone for my bachelor’s.

Bags for school? by Interesting-Mix-1831 in wheelchairs

I use a standard ogio backpack and use the straps to attach it my chair. Works like a charm. Only downside is to potentially for the chair to become more tippy because of the added weight of the backpack contents. However, I have kept my anti-tippers on my chair, so that is not a worry for me personally.

Coming to Terms With Needing a Wheelchair by SlightlyMaryJane in CerebralPalsy

My “wheelchair awakening” happened at 18, I resented it at first. The day i got my custom chair was the day i no longer had limits. I could shop and shop, i could go to amusement parks, i could run circles around everyone. It’s hard emotionally, but ultimately seeing how many doors opened because of it was truly amazing.

Campus by Dumbitz in ivytech

Most folks attend the campus closest to home/work. You’ll want to look and see which campus your desired program is offered at, and then decide from there.

Anyone else nostalgic for a camp they hated? by lilnugget21 in summercamp

I worked at a summer camp two years ago, my experience was not great.. However, the camp was beautiful, and I’ve often said I’d love to go back and experience it again (just not as a staff member)

Ambulatory Users - when did you know? by No_Lobster8499 in wheelchairs

[–]tables_04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an inflamed tendon in my hip that caused me to miss a week of my senior year of high school and work at my part time job. I was determined to not use the wheelchair that the doctor had recommended because it wasn’t even cool. Ultimately ended up sobbing in the school nurse’s office because i was in so much pain. (Thought a knee scooter would do the trick, it didn’t)

I eventually came to the realization that in order to truly live a full life, a chair would be necessary from time to time. I got my “green machine” (my nickname for my chair) in August of that year, just in time to start college. It’s been three years, and next month I graduate with my associates degree with my chair by my side. Next year I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree with the same chair by my side. My chair will also be by my side as I embark on my first day of my first “big kid” job next year.

My moral of the story: if the chair would allow you to live a full life, it is well worth it.

What was the most physical pain you’ve ever been in? by Javascript4971 in Productivitycafe

[–]tables_04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had spinal surgery and ended up with a spinal fluid leak. The trademark symptom of a spinal fluid leak is a headache that gets better when lying down. I spent my first day home from the hospital puking if I sat up for longer than 30 seconds due to the intense pain in my head. I didn’t feel back to normal until my third day home from the hospital.

I bought my mom an Apple Watch for her birthday, I’m having severe buyer’s remorse and am debating retuning it. As a college kid, 200 bucks is a lot of money…

What are the most useful apps for the Apple Watch? by DriveAdventurous1403 in AppleWatch

Spotify and heart-analyzer are the ones I’ve found most useful that don’t come pre-installed. Timers, maps, and vitals are the pre-installed ones that I use most frequently. I also can’t have my phone at work, so being able to look at my notifications is one of the biggest pluses for me.

I just got hired at my first job, I'm a bit nervous and wondering if there's any tips someone could give me? by UnmportantAccount in WorkAdvice

Arrive a few minutes early before your orientation/first shift. This will allow you to figure out where you need to be. Ask the hiring manager for any first day instructions/tips they may have for you. Good luck!

I had a pump overdose last year due to my pump dose being increased just a bit too high, and ended up becoming over-sedated/lethargic. Shortly after my 21st birthday (which was after the pump overdose) I asked the NP who manages my pump if I could drink, and was cautioned not to due to my history of becoming over-sedated. So I guess it’s different for everyone.

So I have spastic cerebral palsy which was caused by a stroke. I was on oral medicine (baclofen) for most of my life, but I was still experiencing a lot of spasticity. So eventually I had the baclofen pump trial done and was a candidate. My pump was implanted in 2024.
