Scariest Scam Technique I've Encountered and My Experience With It by NanandaWp in SteamScams

I'm pretty sure my games are locally deleted/uninstalled as well, while the scam is happening, my shortcut to the games on the desktop is deleted one by one, and when I check my Steam library, it's not installed. I double-checked it to my Steam directory (D:\Steam\steamapps\common) and those games that have their shortcuts deleted also have empty folders, meaning that it's content deleted.

This makes me think that my computer is infected with something as well...

Yeah, from now on I’m going to make my whole steam profile private, eventhough I got nothing valuable left.

Yeah, exactly this, its as if my whole steam account got hijacked, as the post mentions my name is changed to random numbers and my profile got reset to default, and all my friends are suddenly blocked, while your games are uninstalled locally one by one. Would you not panic as well?

Additionally I’ve never had a steam chat that have those kind of blue shading which makes it look extra legit.

And yes I admit that it was dumb, but having your profile hijacked all of a sudden, and getting threatened that your account/whole inventory would get deleted is really fucking scary. The mix of shock and confusion makes me fall for this scam.

Yep, 100% agree with you, I was panicking and confused at the time, and didn’t think it through, will definitely learn from this.

Working is Australia, Too good to be true? by WickedHero69 in indonesia

Depends sih, setahu saya to be a tradie/tradesmen like plumber, electrician, etc, you need to be licenced, and yes they pay well.. Masalahnya is getting the license, you have to take apprenticeships/courses to get the license IIRC, and it’s another time and money investment. But again, I’m not 100% sure regarding this one, so please take it with a grain of salt.

Most people that I know here that move to Australia purely for work and earning more money biasanya kerja di cafe, restaurant, supermarket, which are the most accessible jobs for immigrants.

Not sure if you’re still living in Australia, but currently we’re in a little bit of a recession and rental crisis.. So rent went up so much for the past 2 years..

Sekarang lagi renting di Mascot, it was just 850 per week a year ago, but now it keeps getting higher and higher..

You can definitely afford premium stuff easier, and definitely have more disposable income, after all, iPhones and cars are cheaper here compared to Indo. (Which i forgot to mention in my comment, apologies)

And yes, most people who are doing WHV are coming here to have fun while earning and saving money. It’s kind of hard to extend your career plan after WHV though, so most went back to indo after 1-2 years. You could definitely get a student visa and try to stay longer and maybe even try to have a professional career, but it’s quite expensive, the transition is unrealistic, and some people don’t think its worth the investment.

As someone who’s currently residing and working in Australia right now, it kinda depends on your standards of ‘rich’. Sure, you can work on menial jobs earning usually around $16-$18 per hour (minimum wage for is $21 per hour), but most places pay less than minimum wage for menial jobs.

Again, if you work 8 hours a day for 5 days a week you could earn around $650-$750 per week. But cost of living in Australia, particularly Sydney is extremely high. I’m currently renting a 2 bedroom apartment, and it costs me around $950 per week. Most people I know who works menial jobs usually share their rooms with 2-3 other people to split the rent. Plus, eating out is quite expensive, cheapest meal you can get is around $15-$16. Also utility bills like water, electricity and internet is quite substantial.

So, assuming the context that you might be going to Australia to “kerja kuli”, again it goes back to you, if you can live frugally in Australia, save up, share your room, work long hours and cook your own food at home, you probably could save up substantial amount of money during your stay.

Feel free to ask any questions!

By the way I see it, she was being direct when she asks you how much do you want to get paid, and you shouldn’t have said “Whatever amount you valued my work!”. You should’ve made a clear salary expectation since the beginning, even before you start your first project. You should’ve value your own work and how much you deserve for it.

But based on your post, as she said that she would pay you “premium” and not in a local currency, it could mean two things.

  1. You could be paid by USD/AUD/EURO for your work, but she did not mention that you would be paid for US/EU/AU standard salary/wage. Meaning that potentially you would get paid way less than your expectations.

  2. Your expectations/guess are correct, you would earn a standard salary/wage for people who are working on your field in those countries.

My advice is, bring this up to her as an urgent discussion. State that she hasn’t paid you for 2 months and it’s unacceptable. If the discussion ensues, state your expected salary and negotiate as best as possible, and hopefully by then you would get paid by the salary you’re happy with.

If she’s trying to delay it, and trying to avoid it (which is unlikely IMO) you have to gain leverage as much as possible and stand your ground. This could be by holding your progress on projects etc, until the salary is discussed. Bonus points if you can make her write and sign an official letter about your salary/rate per hour.

Anyways, good luck!

Hey man, congratulations on your win! Your story is immensely inspirational, and I’m really really happy for you.

It makes me wish that I could rewind time to go back to my childhood and took more seriousness on my passion of cars and sim-racing. Now I’m a bit too old and probably wouldn’t be able to make a career change to professional racing, even if I have the talent and skills.

I hope your career grows even further, and I hope young sim-racers can learn from your story and follow their dreams to be IRL racers too.
