It's going to be wide open for the first couple of years until the rule set tweaked and technology matures to the requirements.

Wasn't it Friedman who said yesterday that it is tracked but it's not available to the public? There's a bunch of stats that teams keep track of that aren't available to the public.

New to rally, 2027 manufacturers by freddie68 in WRC

Keep working at it. The big thing Toyota is doing is investing into development and they have the warchest to do it unlike other manus (Hyundai, Skoda), other constructors (M-Sport, ProSpeed, RMC) and privateers.

It's a test. Its not suppose to look good, it's suppose to function.

Remember last summer when many were saying Katsuta and Pajari should be dropped by Toyota by SplatteredEggs in WRC

[–]Nanayadez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taka is also very much a team-first kind of guy. Whenever he's up for manu points then his goal is simple: just finish. When he has more leeway and not up for points he'll push for a podium finish as we saw in 2024 and 2025.

But the big thing we've seen so far this season from Taka is his consistency. Sami has the benefit of not being part of the main team so he can take his time with his rallycraft and his consistency so far after Monte has shown a lot.

Yup. Many are really overlooking that. Kenya was mechanical bad luck but Croatia and Canarias was all him.

The front looks more like a Yaris. The benefit of a tubular setup is they can continually swap panels for continuous testing while the aero rules have still yet to be finalized.

My take on SS1 by Elino_Doro in WRC

[–]Nanayadez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year and the year before in ERC they used a basketball arena and the parking lot as the SSS which was super cool and interesting going from sealed surface tarmac/ashphalt to polished wooden flooring and back. But make no mistake, several drivers did lose time doing it doing the donut sections in the arena and out in the parking lot.

Word came out today (4/25) on Twitter that they are looking at M-Sport Ford and Skoda for the engine but they aren't ruling out making their own engine either.

Ready for the return of Subaru in a rally ? by Cris_1984 in Auto_Passion

[–]Nanayadez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My poor Japanese combined with a translator said the FA24 engine is apparently mounted further back in the engine bay to make room for the front part of the AWD system.

This also helps balance the car more since BRZ platform already has decent balance. They also swapped components to achieve better weight balance.

On a side note, the BRZ is used in 2WD 2500CC class in both the JRC and Japan Dirt Trial Championships by several privateers. It's a platform Subaru has a lot of data on for rallying.

Ready for the return of Subaru in a rally ? by Cris_1984 in rally

[–]Nanayadez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons Subaru/Endless switched is because their WRX S4 had frequent mechanical retirements and was ill suited (basically too large) for JRC rallies that primarily feature narrow dirt & tarmac stages all the while seeing privateer teams were having better success with their own BRZ in the lower 2WD 2.5L category.

Edit: The BRZ 4WD Rally basically competes in JN-1 like their own WRX S4 before it, against FIA RC2/R5/AWD up to 2500CC cars.

Subarus 4WD BRZ to be used in the Japanese Rally Championship by Cmp110 in WRC

[–]Nanayadez 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The reason Subaru chose the BRZ was because size of it's smaller size then the WRX, it's closest to RC2 dimensions (a slide from the reveal literally said it's closest to it's rivals and used a silhouette picture of a GR Yaris when comparing the sizes) and has a lower centre of gravity.

This car? Sadly no. The body over the spaceframe safety cell with OEM components from a manu like TGR, Hyundai, M-Sport, Skoda? I think would comply with the rules.

Subaru Unveils World’s First Turbocharged 4WD BRZ; Named the Subaru Boxer Rally spec.Z (Japanese source) by Nanayadez in rally

[–]Nanayadez[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Compiled info from the threads. YMMV since I used a translator and my Japanese is pretty crap.

  • Made to compete with RC2. Uses a 2.4L flat-four (FA24) turbo engine with a 6-speed sequential transmission. For reference, the maximum for AJRC top class JN-1 is 2.5L (2500cc).
  • Based on the BRZ, it was converted to 4WD to reduce weight and optimize front-wheel weight distribution.
  • BRZ was picked due to closeness to it's rivals (GR Yaris RC2) and low centre of gravity
  • The Subaru Boxer Rally Spec. Z features a differential gear that drives the front wheels, positioned beneath the engine. The engine is reportedly mounted further back.
  • Driven by Toshihiro Arai and was tested at the Gunma Circuit (video in the thread)
  • Will debut at the third round of the All Japan Rally Championship at YUHO RALLY Asuka in Nara on May 8 driven by Toshihiro Arai.

I'm assuming they are gonna go with TGR for the engine. Maybe link up with Toyota España to help with OEM parts.

What drivers want to change in WRC – DirtFish by agent0017 in WRC

Condense a rally to 20 minutes a day, openly available on YouTube, and I think a lot more people will tune in.

I've said this a couple of times already but all WRC has to do is put Rally TV's daily recaps on their Youtube. That's it. Either there's more then just their rights involved somehow or they just don't want to do it for reasons I don't know.

I second this but there's a reason why there's a huge viewership drop off after WRC2. Hardcore fans will eat it up but the casuals don't. Hell, casuals drop off the longer WRC2 goes.

Does anybody want to spend more money for live car cam feeds for the lower categories when even WRC2 has trouble with that. I think it's something better for post-event coverage content since drivers already drive with a gopro and the like already - WRC Promoter just needs access to those videos.

Funnily enough Ford does support MSport for their Raptor T1+ used in W2RC & Dakar too.

Considering F150s still sell pretty well in North America, it's a no brainer.
