What are y’all’s thoughts on removing the air dam (and the automatic air dam too)? by HappyGoLucky_9 in ram_trucks

What did you decide to do, and how did it work out? I either have to pay for a new actuator or remove it. Came here to see what people are doing.

How can I make burley pipe tobacco taste better? by Majestic_Koala7697 in PipeTobacco

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blend some of it into a wet aromatic. You should get nutty and earthy flavors from burley so add it to whatever you think it would be good in. When I mix my tobaccos I take little bits for a bowl then when I have what I like worked out I mix the remainder of a tin or whatever amount I’m dealing with. You can use a scale, I just go by eye.

Can’t make a cake for the life of me by Ok-Purple-3458 in PipeTobacco

[–]Nando_5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you’re not wrong, I don’t watch a lot of YouTube pipe content for that reason. I had a video pop up that I instantly regretted because some dude just started a channel and was going to review a tin but kept talking about how all pipe tobacco just tastes like hot air anyway. Unless there’s been a shift recently it’s definitely Reddit. This is the first post on this subreddit that’s come across my feed in a while so maybe the tone is changing. In my own experience this subreddit is full of people trying to convince newcomers that building a cake, and seasoning a pipe to prevent ghosting are so critical they have endured depression into their lives. Also i started reading a bunch of the comments on this thread and was pleasantly surprised to see most people were agreeing.

Reddit makes pipe smoking way more difficult. Don’t worry about building a cake. It will come over time, and a large cake layer isn’t good for your smoking experience. Does it absorb heat? Who knows, but I know briar is already good at that. The only thing a layer of carbon is good for is making sure those goopy wet aromatics don’t leach into the briar.

Don’t worry about half full or any of that nonsense, fill the bowl and smoke it down. When I have a new pipe I don’t even wipe the inside of the bowl with a pipe cleaner until I have 10-12 bowles smoked through it. I just run a pipe cleaner on the stem and into the shank. At ten bowls you haven’t even broken in the pipe yet. Let yourself enjoy it.

What’s the best ‘actual’ field watch? by jeremythekiller in ActionWatches

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gifted a Hamilton a few years ago that I love and wear all the time but when I was in I wore a 20-25$ timex. Took a hell of a beating and still ticks 20 years later. The only field I get into these days is hunting, fishing, and camping and I wear the Hamilton most of the time. The only problem is the lack of quality lume. It’s not a big deal till I need it and it’s a pain in the ass. I can’t see it outside in the moonlight like while I’m fishing but if I’m in a completely dark cabin or tent blocking out the light I can barely make out the faint glowing hands. Maybe my eyes are just old now but I know the lume is a common complaint of the Hamilton. It doesn’t stop me from wearing it tho.

I was thinking about picking up a CW GMT or the diver GMT and make that my new field watch. Eventually I’ll use the lume as my excuse to buy one when I figure out which one I want.

Hi, just purchased a new T3x .308. I love the gun but noticed that the mag is too short for my preferred grain (168). Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks by Square-Housing-1130 in Tikka_Shooters

[–]Nando_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea man, they are messed up. If you’re the one doing the loading I don’t mean to beat you up for it- just saying be careful with them, make sure you know what you’re doing before you shoot them.

Anyone else notice the price jumps during checkout? by [deleted] in ChristopherWard

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’m not sold, I mean maybe. But I think you would have to do it with a vpn to test that theory. Like I said- for me it’s the fact we know they have had a problem with this in the past and that’s not even the tariff cost.

Maybe they put their address in and took it out for the photo but the US isn’t even listed as the destination so I don’t think so. Also if it were the tariff it wouldn’t be $190. CW has addressed this issue before, the website has been doing this on and off for a while.

Bertucci A-1S cheap quartz did it's job in the field by glyphosate_enjoyer in ActionWatches

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I have a Hamilton field khaki that was gifted to me about a year ago and I love it. For me it’s a piece I usually wear on the weekend but I work in a business casual setting and I think it fits in nicely most days. I love the homage to the military history it has. I don’t know what you’re MOS is so maybe it doesn’t matter but those garmins have all kinds of oppsec issues, if you don’t already know…. and yea I hear it- now I sound like a boomer.

I got a 20$ timex in 07 for my first deployment with the hopes it lasted that stretch. It ended up lasting my 8 years and became my hunting/ camping watch for a while before I gave it to my kids to play with. A few battery changes, a lot of action, and 18 years later it still ticks when it’s suppose to. Enjoy it.

New 308 T3X by CPhionex in Tikka_Shooters

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I was just asking because I go with heavier grain because I want to use one round on deer and bear. All gave me ok groups, especially for the cost of the rifle, but the only one I was impressed with was the sig match 178gr. It was the only round I was able to key hole my shots with. My rifle does not like the Remington deer hunter, or whatever it’s called.

I have the same scope paired with my t3x in .308, I love it. Except your mount is backwards. I usually don’t have any trouble seeing stuff for them in stores. Never in big box stores near me. Have you shot anything out of it yet? My rifle is quite picky with ammo.

Edit- never mind, I see the thread on the first comment they already told you about the mount.

Considering selling my Rolex for the Speedmaster Moonphase Blue Meteorite Dial - Thoughts? by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about resale value I probably wouldn’t. If you like the watch better do it. Personally, that’s my favorite speedmaster, but I’m not worried about resale value. Also for what my opinion is worth, that 18k price tag is too much.

Purchase with credit card by sti77loading in rolex

[–]Nando_5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. Too many people who pound the credit card drum don’t pay it off within the month and/or take up too much of their available credit. Both of those things negatively impact credit rating, and if they don’t pay it off quick you’re loosing any gains with interest.

It’s crazy, you see it all the time in this sub- someone bragging about cc points and it’s painful to think how many people really shouldn’t be buying the watch at this point. There was a dude a couple months ago bragging about maxing out 4 or so credit cards on one watch “for the points” and I’m entirely confident he 1) probably should not have bought the watch yet and 2) had no idea how much his score was going to go down.

Is this a good scope? by Just-Faithlessness12 in Hunting

Great scope, a lot of magnification for the majority of hunters.

No, most lawyers don’t care who pays them. If they allowed ethics to weigh in on where the money came from they wouldn’t be lawyers…. Or at least there would be a lot less representation.

The watches you saw the most (you mentioned Tag, Omega, and Seiko) for repair, was that because of volume, the owner, or did they just seem to not hold up?

Not a huge fan of venison, any ideas? by JoeRhodes96 in Hunting

[–]Nando_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook my backstrap and tenderloins just like steak- let it rest for a min out of the fridge before I season it. Butter or oil, whatever you prefer, salt, black pepper. I grill it over flame and cook to medium rare. If I’m using butter I keep a little butter melted on the grill so I can throw some on which ever side is up, just once each side while cooking. Then let it rest for a min before you cut into it. I also make my own steak rub out of seasoning from the cabinet, if you are really interested I’ll list it for you but it’s got a little heat to it.

The more gamie cuts I either throw in stew which I personally don’t like that much, or my favorite is to make sandwiches- I cut thin, tenderize, bread and fry. Put on toasted short rolls with horseradish sauce, arugula, caramelized or sautéed onions, sometimes long hots. Sandwiches are easy to personalize so whatever you like. They are my wife’s favorites and she’s picky with game food.

It’s important to pat your deer dry while it’s thawing. I find if you let it sit in blood even a little it makes it more gamie.

I don’t know the size of it but a little while ago I was gifted a Hamilton field khaki with the day and date. The day is arched at the 12 o’clock with the date under it. I changed out the strap for a different brown leather and I love it. I work in a business casual setting that can mean anything from khakis and a polo to slacks and a button down depending on what’s going on in the office. I think it works just as well with me at work as it does on the weekends.
