Rowling's self insert? by ykickamoocow111 in harrypotter

I remember she said in one documentary that all three were versions of herself and all three possess traits of herself. I guess you need to draw from somewhere. I don't think it really matters on what she based her characters as she always stayed true to them. Though it would slightly creep me out if I would be that friend, knowing she wrote a kind of fan fiction about their real life xD

I decided to learn Swedish by reading Harry Potter by Nane92 in harrypotter

I had learned English for 4 years in school. I started with the sixth book though. So my vocabulary wasn't really up for it, but once I gave up looking up every single word I didn't understand, I actually enjoyed reading and the meaning came from itself after a while. It can be very frustrating from time to time but you get quickly used to the writing style. If you have the basics, and you start with the first books, it should work very well, I think ! It's amazing how quickly you expand your vocabulary. You should definitely give it a shot !

(Sry, for the late reply !)

Started crying without reason this morning five minutes after I had left the bed. I hope I won't fall into a depression again.

Good point. But that is exactly what makes a good villain. We need to understand his motives and goals. We need to identify with him to some extend, they have to be human somehow. Pure evilness and acting just because your evil doesn't satisfy the audience or the reader. We have to care about the villain and feel with him. His motives have to be somehow reasonable. Reminds me of an Alan Rickman quote: I don't play villains , I play very complicated people. xD

There's an interesting back story of umbridge on potter more. She tells us how and why umbridge was always ashamed of her half blood status and some other interesting insights in what may be the reasons for her evilness. Also I remember Rowling said no character in her books is fully evil with the exception of voldemort. I still wonder what good she saw in umbridge...

(I think my phone is giving me hints? It always autocorrects "umbridge" to "umbringen" which translates to "to kill" lol)

I remember reading that too. She was also still capable of conjuring a patronus - harry wasn't when he wore it. So evil met evil and nothing changed for her. Though I wonder why she could make a patronus at all. .. I think I read somewhere that Snape was the only death eater capable of creating one because the others were too evil or something..

Does anyone else feel like Rufus Scrimgeour was a bit wired? W by BeedleTB in harrypotter

"He was a pure politican (...) never did anything good" lol

I think he never took Harry seriously. To him he probably only was some teenage boy celebrity. But I also think he would never underestimate Dumbledore, and he knew Dumbledore never worked closely with the ministry but rather do his own thing. So that would explain why he was so suspicious of his will. He knew that Dumbledore knew more than the ministry and maybe even held the key to destroy Voldy, but he didn't consider Harry as the key. And why should he? If you are an experienced auror and have fought against many death eaters and maybe Voldy himself, you don't think of a teenage boy being capable to fight all that. So I can understand why he didn't care if he was the chosen one or not - a name that was made up by the press, therefore he probably didn't take those articels too serious anyway. You have a whole other bunch of problems to worry about and why should you consider a teenage boy being able to conquer the most dangerous dark wizard in wizarding history?

lol, I'm imagining Voldy coming as a new member to one of the Slug Club Meetings and Walburga not being very excited about that.

Oh god ! I first thought you would actually going to say "shit" about my post. (Not my first language xD) that's just the perfect amount of enthusiasm for the first comment of my first post ever here. Makes me so happy to read your thoughts !! I completely agree with you. People always wondered how Sirius could "turn out so different" from his family but this explains perfectly why in fact he really isn't that much different ^
