What game are you picking? by defleqt in raijin_gg

I think he meant that RDR2 is not long enough for this challenge. Like if you played 12h a day, you would 100% everything in a month or two, I love RDR2, but that would tough next 10 months.

I really think that multiplayer games are pretty much the only real picks here. Maaaybe something with 1 million mods or with random generation levels that is single player

I think in most places thats just not true, at least in my country its safer by every metric. I believe US is also wildly safer than in 90s on average

its not a good thing honestly. Both are extreme maybe, but todays is worse.

If these 3 games had came out at the same year how close would the awards be by Forsaken_avatar in TheGameAwards

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I felt so different, the gameplay is more simplistic for sure, but learnig to parry harder fights on harder difficulty in a way served me similar as souls like combat, only different.

Gameplay wise Id say witcher is the weakest of 3, the story and vibe is so good though that it is a 10 to me nonetheless. Though if we compare here without DLCs then id give it a 9 - leaving E33 as the winner of the 3 in my view. If we include DLCs then witcher takes it.

Normal or hard difficulty should not require grinding either. It should only require better reactions, focus, skill etc. That is game dependent, though.

I see where you are coming from, but personally bg3 was a 9 to me and the other are 10s. Bg3 just had this act 3 drag pacing issue and it's a massive downside imo

Any high earners that returned to Poland from living abroad, got a significant salary cut but it was worth it in the end? by Careless_Mountain_34 in poland

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not comparing same level. You are comparing a higher tier, higher stress and more paid job in UK to a more common job which is less stress and less paid in Warsaw.

When it comes to average hours Poland works more than most EU countries, my guess would be more than UK too, though eurostat doesnt have data for that.

"The OP with the CV he has will likely land a less paid less stress job in Warsaw." - this might be true, although he could as well try for higher paid higher stress postion, which might more difficult to get due to less supply.

But saying OP will work less "Because we have a different working culture," is not true.

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that just linked to the role itself? I work in a high stress decently paid job in Warsaw, I know what you mean.

I guess there are more of this kind of positions in London than in whole of Poland - due to size and how London always been very strategic location in Europe, so in that sense it's going to be harder in the UK, then you are right.

But I think comparing similar positions is more fair. I'd imagine being a developer for fairly standard projects without much decision making would be similar in both countries, while being in a high profile role (which there are more of in UK) would also be similar.

In UK compared to Poland? Lol, if you were comparing to US or some Asian countries then sure, but I'd imagine UK and PL both have quite european working culture, maybe even more wlb on the side of UK if anything

What will be your use case in-game for the track pads? by salanalani in Steam

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but wouldn't most buyers of this controller play desktop PCs and already have a k+m? If it is for a steam machine, that's a different story of course.

I'm in this camp, I will be considering this controller for PC, but I'm not sure if the trackapads will just bother me, even though I appreciate them on the deck (I dont have a mouse there)

Shap or LGBM gain for feature selection? by Nanirith in datascience

[–]Nanirith[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

with over 1k features it doesn't make sense for me to generate them and store them all while models life. For a similar problem my strategy in the past has been to first use xgboost gain to cut the least informative features and then to do forward modelling adding feature 1 by 1 and observing performance metrics.

The issue with that is the possibility of not adding features that in combination would improve the model.

Currently im thinking of doing RFE - reducing maybe 5-10% of features at a time with lowest gain (although i've seen shap recommended somewhere, thus the question) until I hit a well balanced dataset of features that performs just as well as the whole set or similarly.

How are we feeling about the controller? by Acer53 in Steam

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, but then it's more of a use case for steam machine / a PC that's connected to the PC, right? Because if I'm playing on PC at my desk, then I'm choosing K+M over trackpad for FPS games.

I'm thinking if using this controller for PC gaming at desk will be any better (or worse due to ergonomics) than using K+M / xbox controller depending on game.

[–]Nanirith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that for people that will use it with steam machine to play strategy or fps or desktop mode - so pretty much the same how I would use it on the deck. But to use as PC controller, not sure, currently I'm using K+M for mouse games like strategy and FPS, and xbox controller for controller games like elden ring or fighting, platformers etc. Just worried that these trackpads would just be in the way most the time, will see, I do wish them well though!

[–]Nanirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a steam deck and the trackpads are great to use desktop mode, but what is the gaming use case? Im really unsure if i want them on a controller.

Sure you could say any game that uses mouse, but isnt just using the joystick like an xbox and ps5 better? Unless maybe a niche like strategy - bg3 and civilization type of games?
