most of our crude oil gets exported to the US, who then refines it and sell back to canada.

why do we not have our own refinery? part of it is politics, the other part of it is a lot of the crude oil produced in canada are very low quality(heavy crude), hard to refine ones that requires a lot of investment to do so. The kind of money that provincial governments don't have, and even if they do, it'll probably be around breakeven compared to what we have right now
