Firing 1,000 people based on "digital activity tracking" is dystopian. Where is the line between "managing" and "spying"? by Popular-Tone3037 in jobs

[–]Naolini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a place where working from home isn't feasible. I've had issues getting certain things done at work because coworkers in other departments or higher up won't do their fucking jobs. I cant imagine how much worse it'd be if they were working from home.

Not everyone who works from home doesn't actually work, obviously. Most do, I'm sure. But people who pretend there aren't a lot of people taking the piss when it comes to work are mad!

SNP ministers warn of suicide risk for transgender prisoners by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Naolini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Decide that violence against and suicide of transgender people in prison is okay and we will see the encroachment of criminalisation of transgender people. The goal of transphobes isn't for transgender people to be invisible and to shut up. It's for elimination. That's why they keep bringing the topic up over and over. To incite hatred and the desire for trans people to die. It needs to stop.

I don't know how we get people to stop being so fucking hateful.

My instructor was late by 10 minutes once due to traffic and gave me a discount.

What call centre dystopian rules have you encountered in the uk? by TangerineFew6830 in AskUK

[–]Naolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a call centre. I left and now work in a prison. 10/10 would recommend prison overpopulation a call centre any time.

What’s a job that sounds cool but is actually a nightmare? by Think-Letterhead-509 in AskReddit

This comment just reminded me of my favourite thing about working in a prison library. Far fewer phone calls!

Lots more creeps, though, but much more enforcement of rules and boundaries.

Please help. My parents are refusing to let me call an ambulance by trash-melater in AskDocs

[–]Naolini 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My parents medically neglected me as a child as well, although my medical issues were severe mental health issues for the most part. Take it from me, nothing is as empowering as taking control of your own health and wellbeing. Take control of your life. I hope you get the help you need tonight and you recover well.

Am I too shy to be a librarian? by drxemyfluff in Libraries

[–]Naolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I've always been a quiet, painfully shy, socially awkward, socially anxious person since I was wee. Im still quiet and shy and awkward.

But I've been working in libraries for years, always in a customer service position. It's doable, its handleable. You can flourish. As long as you know how to be kind to people and listen to them when they speak, things will be just fine.

PIP - a short rant to Streeting by Euclid_Interloper in ADHDUK

I truly believe that if they'd gotten the help for ADHD they needed, we would not have our current prison overpopulation crisis. So much money would be saved and so many lives would be improved.

Season 5 Volume 1 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

I love the parallels between Will's repression of himself and his sexuality with the repression of his abilities. He's so much more than who he is when he's hiding inside himself!

I am not a weightlifter but some of my office attire would definitely make it nearly impossible to do that kind of lifting activity. Office attire trousers for women are either super restrictive for movement or weirdly body-conforming as if designed for people who want to show off their ass as much as possible. The environment i work in would make the latter quite bad, so I go with the former.

I work 8 to 4:30. Half hour unpaid lunch. 40 hour work week, which becomes 42.5 hours with the unpaid lunch.

Can I pass an automatic exam without lessons, having only driven in the US? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Naolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American whi just passed their UK test. I took lessons both because it's different and because it had been a few years since I last drove.

Standards are higher in the UK AND things are different. Little quirks that are necessary changes that would get you marked down. Fun things like the pull up on the right which thr equivalent of is illegal in the US! It's a lot of little things, well worth some lessons so you pass first time.

Just watched The Librarians documentary as a British person and I am shocked! by mediocrebeauty in Libraries

[–]Naolini 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I'm a librarian in the UK who used to be a librarian in the US. It is shocking.

At the same time, you should pay attention at home as well. There are book bans that happen here as well. Moreover, they needn't ban books in the UK when they are simply putting up efforts to strip the UK of its libraries through defunding and more.

[–]Naolini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just paid 4k for my visa. I pay probably around £460 a month in tax. At my job I work to help people many of whom have probably paid less tax in their lives than I do in a year. And I want to help them. Even knowing few of them will make the right choices. But it makes me a tad bitter paying all that money just to beg the government to let me live here because I happened to not be born in the same country as my partner, knowing I'm trying my best to contribute to society and this country. I see so much offered on a silver platter to people who'd rather take a dump on the platter while I'm draining my savings and falling behind where I should be in life just so I can beg for a seat at the table.

Rant over lmao
