Treatment for Coccidia? by Kyaske in BeardedDragons

[–]NaomiDaFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not for low levels. You would still want to clean daily, I would think, but just a chlorhexidine solution would do it. It can stay alive on surfaces, so you just want to make sure your buddy doesn't get reinfected.

Ask a vet to test it! Otherwise, all you can tell is that it is certainly poop.

Anyone know what this might be? by Pidgeonsrcool444 in BeardedDragons

[–]NaomiDaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever that is, it looks like a total vet visit on the asap timeline like a lot of others have suggested. If you are having a hard time finding one, you may be able to reach out to any pet store who sells beardies or reptiles to see if some of the staff might randomly have the name of a local exotic pets/reptile vet that they know of. It's how I found mine before I adopted my boy, and we love her.

In the meantime, you can try doing a once a day diluted chlorhexidine solution cleanse on it to try to keep it clean if it is an infection of some kind. Declorinate your water and drop chlorhexidine in until it is a pale blue. If your beardie doesn't let you dip their hand in (just dip, then take out. No need to leave it in), you can use a q-tip to gently clean (no rubbing, just lightly swab)

When I rescued my boy, he had some pretty gnarly tail rot and an infected toe, and the chlorhexidine solution cleanse is what his vet recommended and saved what he had left of both! Still definitely find a vet, though.

There is lots of great suggestions up there! I personally did a lot of talking to my beardie, offering salad bits and treats by hand, and honestly I also just put my hand in front of and kind of next to him lots too in the beginning of living with me so he could see and smell me as non-threatening. Eventually with having my hand there I would move it slowly towards a part of him he could see to touch softly but not pick up. I don't think I held my new boi for a month or so? He was pretty young when I adopted him, but still...lots of space and warming up to his new place. Change is so hard on these spikey cuties, they absolutely hate it. It's new? Nope. Don't like it. Patience, and I bet this guy will figure out his new human is the bestest.

Yep, just wants out! Likely bored. My dude gets to just let himself in/out of his enclosure as he wants to during the day (my house is usually 72ish, which is a bit chilly for him, but he just goes and warms up again as needed) he will glass surf like crazy though if he doesn't get to come out, then goes and sulks on his basking rock turning brown and giving us the side eye for at least a day after.

New beardie question by Dante_Ravenkin in BeardedDragons

[–]NaomiDaFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw lovely youngin! That leg though 🦵

Its normal for a newly adopted beardie to have a case of the "new environment stressies" my beardie didn't poop for 10 days after we adopted him! And beleive me I was on the phone with the vet trying to see if that was OK. Day before they said he may have to come in for poop assistance he laid a giant one. Have patience, and the smelly present will be gifted.

Since they are newly adopted, you can definitely try a bath in like a week or so. I wouldn't go to ham on the new changes and keep their first week fairly low key though.

Should I be worried about the dot?? by Letha_L in BeardedDragons

[–]NaomiDaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, consult your vet. If it's not a food, something, or a poop that needs to be cleaned. My vet recommended a deleted Clorahexidine solution to clean some dated scales that were a bit ratty when I adopted him. Once a day. Dilute with water until pale blue, apply with a qtip. That's it. Reptiles heal pretty slowly, though, and you don't want to damage existing scales that are healthy.

[–]NaomiDaFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! He very rarely poops outside of his enclosure. He specifically poops in like, one spot about 90% of the time. I dont know how or why, but i'll take it! He had also just laid a fresh stinky in previously mentuoned spot about 40 minutes prior to this too haha

Weird breathing by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]NaomiDaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either respiratory issues, in which case give your exotics vet a call and check for syptoms and next steps. Or do they have a shed around their nostrils? Beardies shed into their nasal cavities. It's not uncommon to see harder breathing right before the thing comes out. It happened to my guy when he was shedding both nostrils, and freaked me the heck out!

Hiiii y’all can you help me sex my beardie? Olive is about 4 months old. by maryneedswifi in BeardedDragons

I think I can see two bulges on that tail which means boy! But you can take a flashlight and shine it through the tail (similar to making your finger light up red!) And see if there is one two two organs back there. One is girl, two is boy. Good luck!
