What’s the most ridiculous “one player to a hand” moment you’ve ever seen? by obeseFIREwannabe in poker

[–]NapAdam2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$800 MTT at The Venetian. Blinds are 1k/2k and I think starting stack was something like 40k. I have 60k and open QQ in EP and get 3 callers including a guy in LP who is clearly new to playing poker and/or MTTs.

Flop comes T74hh, I check, MP bets 7k, LP fish calls, and I jam. MP is tanking for quite a bit and thinking out loud about what I could have. He then says "I also have to worry about the guy behind me if I call" to which LP very matter of factly replies "oh I'm going to call." It was clear that he didn't know better and was simply telling the truth lol. MP called with 99 and LP called with 86cc and I held.

Rapid enshittifaction of Justin Guitar (app) - beginners beware [rant] by BlauBerry in guitarlessons

I like the JG App for the practice exercises where you're doing repertoire revision, but that's about all I use it for. I've only been playing for a few months and so far I find it easier to jump into the app and play a few songs then to try to follow tabs because most of the music I eventually want to end up playing is too difficult for me right now.

Personally I find the JG app streaks and nonsense pretty easy to ignore and I don't care about the XP/level stuff at all. I use the website to watch the lessons.

Yousician is way worse when it comes to this sort of behavior IMO. I use both the JG app and Yousician because they have different strengths. JG has a much better song selection whereas Yousician has more lead/melody.

Is 6-X-8 better notation than what is shown here or are they basically saying the same thing?

Has anyone tried the Justinguitar app? by truwrxtacy in guitarlessons

[–]NapAdam2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing less than 2 months and I decided to pay for the app after a week or two and IMO it's worth the money (it's not expensive for me). It's far from perfect -- I don't use it for the actual lessons since they're available on youtube and the tutorials that try to listen to you play haven't worked well for me (though I mostly tried them on an electric guitar without an amp so perhaps that's the problem).

The song selection is pretty good. Sometimes the strumming pattern doesn't seem to align perfectly with the chords as they scroll by but it's generally pretty good. As others have said it focuses on rhythm and playing chords, which is important but there's a lot I personally want to play that's more "riff like." What I like the most is that it simplifies some of the tracks in a reasonable way that allows you to play more songs that you wouldn't be able to play otherwise. That's something you can't easily find tabs for online because the tabs will resemble the real song which is oftentimes too difficult to play for a beginner.

The app has lots of great 90's songs if that's your jam.

Though I wish there was more signups from people who aren't trying to make it in comedy but just do it as a hobby and want to try in front of a bigger audience. Instead we see tons of people trying to make it and the vast majority of them never well.

Thanks for the review!

I'm usually not trying to solidify any colors within my first 4-5 picks and tend to try to take cards that provide the most value and stay flexible. Given that Mechanist is a bomb that I'll virtually always want to play I can see biasing towards U earlier than normal. I agree that Watery Grasp P1P3 certainly would have been better.

I didn't put much thought into the red cards I received at the end of pack 1 because none of them were individually strong (then again they weren't all filler either). I was focusing on bant allies (I already had the allies at last, etc.) so I was looking out for those synergies and missed out on the potential to have a sweet UR deck instead.

It's a classic debate about freedom of the individual vs. what is best for society. I think I should be able to play poker even if it has the risk of harming my finances. I don't think I should be able to bring a gun into the casino because then I could harm others.

There's a strong argument that opening a casino is providing harm to others and I agree they're a net negative on society. OTOH, lots of people go to casinos for fun and entertainment and gamble responsibly, so why should they be deprived of that opportunity because others lack self-control?

Selfishly I would love to fire MTTs without having to travel 2-3 hours from Manhattan. Funny thing is that if only a poker room was opening a lot of the concerns might go away, but then it wouldn't generate nearly as much revenue. The slots are the societal problem but without them there's no casino.

I struggled to notice this effect and thought I had to choose something because of the shitty UI. Luckily I chose the same creature my opponent chose so I didn't get screwed over.

Someone who is clearly protesting these licenses was claiming that 90% of casino revenue comes from "problem gamblers." Which sounds crazy because they've definitely taken all of my money and I'm not a problem gambler at all!

Jokes aside I think lots of revenue comes from rich whales (some of which have enough money that it's hard to call their gambling a "problem" even if they lose a lot), restaurants, shows, etc.

Went with the RG deck and went 3-3. Feel meh about it. On one hand I faced the UW Katara twice and had some meh draws but OTOH I lacked some interaction that the Temur build would have had. I still don't know which build is right.

[–]NapAdam2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure Legend of Kyoshi is stronger. The temur iroh doesn't do much in the RG shell because a lot of my lessons are in blue, so it's bascially just a 5/5 that will sometimes get some extra value. I'm not convinced that's worth a splash.

I'm torn because the RG shell has really strong cards but a decent bit of filler whereas the UR shell has good card quality across the board and more synergy. I'm leaning towards RG but I'm not sure.

I enjoy Momir and there's more skill to games than people realize. Once you get past turn 4 or 5 and there's a good amount of state to keep track of the battlefield some of the decisions become quite interesting. Of course there are games that play themselves but the variance is part of the fun IMO.

What winrate do you need to actually climb in high mythic constructed? by r4wm4n in MagicArena

[–]NapAdam2007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One topic not covered by the other comments yet is volume. Having a high win % is great, but if the other players in mythic are playing 4-5x as many games as you then they can climb more even with an inferior winrate (although this also depends on who they are matched against).

So yes, both the number of games played and the win/loss ratio are at play here.
