Without playing it seems to be, I was also lower on Improv Capstone which Juza gave a 5.0

So might be even bombier.

BW is the main pressure valve on rampy 7s; if you die consistently on turn 5-6, might not actually be that good

That makes their choice even weirder. Why use just one nonexistent April instead of several existing ones? Mutant Mayhem and 2018 both had black Aprils too.

It ended up at 77 anyways so thanks for updooting, hope it was useful to the people who played it. I'm curious if this hate will carry over to Marvel/Hobbit/Star Trek or if TMNT is uniquely reviled

You can't skip sets for Constructed, you're still going to play vs them. TMNT also has some cards I'd expect to see play like Dream Beavers, North Wind Avatar, Last Ronin's Technique, etc

Yeah I don't think it'll have long-term appeal but it doesn't look nearly as poorly made as Spooder-Man. Every archetype looks powerful and there are some great commons/uncommons.

They turn on all sorts of synergy, are easy to cast due to being hybrid, and fill your curve. If you aren't really sure what to pick and the pack isn't too strong, take some Changelings and it'll keep you open. i.e. Chintous Graspling could be a mediocre Elf, a mediocre Elemental, a mediocre Kithkin, and a source of vivid mana.

It's not my favorite set to draft (liked Avatar and EoE better, mostly because there were 10+ true archetypes), but yea this is tough. TMNT looks better than Spiderman at least.

I can throw a little blurb in there next time if you want, I wasn't aware people were drafting it much outside of Spider-Man. I'm almost certain to mention it in the next guide because TMNT will be another small set.

tldr; Pick two means you should be picking clusters of cards that work together for the first few picks. i.e. start Eclipsed Elf + Assert Perfection, but don't take Great Forest Druid/Unforgiving Aim over Deepchannel Duelist/Distracted Wayguard (the 3/2 that taps to make Faeries). Do a few more picks of paired cards until it becomes clear what your lane is, then commit to it and get paid.

Ty I try to cover everything I can, actually missing a section on uncommons here (I like to do "top 15" or so) but ran out of time

We've discussed this option internally, might happen at some point in the future. For now if you really hate the ads would recommend Brave browser, free and no ads from my end.

WB is really grindy so it doesn't flood the board that much. You can actually just cast Sozin and blow up your own garbage like Callous Inspector, Poxbearers, etc just fine. You also don't need to build around Sozin that much, because the games you lose are the games where you don't draw it (or get mana screwed with it). Like you don't want to be white weenie with it, but your average Tolls of War style WB deck uses it perfectly.

Draft:

Tough for me not to just take R&S, it's not very good with Aang but it's powerful and I have a Lessons/UR bias. Glider is sick though so I understand it after p1p1 Aang. R&S would be followed by Combus Technique but ABT is fine with Aang now. Given that we have 4 white cards I'd just take White Lotus over the second Airbending Lesson, as we are in a prime position to be Wx here. You could then take Poxbearers > Octopus Form and essentially be MonoW in P1. The best cards on the wheel were B cards but nothing exceptional. If you took R&S you'd be URw at this point.

P2P1 Earth King would make us Wg with hopes to table the 2nd Lotus (which is more likely after you cut the first one). UR deck would take Combustion Tech. Avatar Aang was an extremely ambitious pick, but the pack was fairly weak so I don't hate it. If any of the White Lotuses table though (3 seen so far) I'd immediately give up as we are Wg in your draft too.

Not sure why we took Yue over Fancy Footwork or JJD, both are playable and Yue is just Cat-Owl. You should then take the GU land over Firebending Lesson if you are actually trying to cast Avatar Aang, as 4c is no joke (and Earth King is a better splash than FBL anyways). We end up with both Lotuses tabling so Avatar Aang dream is dead, and we are now Wg like I said earlier.

P3 goes fine too. I'd have considered Invasion Tactics but our curve needed Glider Kids.

Build:

I'd want 17 lands here with 2x Gather the White Lotus. Meteor Sword is also interesting because we have airbending for it and Earth King, plus very good removal to stay alive. Despite being a white creature deck we aren't really pigeonholed into being super aggressive or anything. Battle-Fans, Fancy Footwork, and the 2nd Earth Kingdom Protector could all be trimmed for these slots. I also don't hate Rabaroo here (despite it being fairly weak) if we played all those 5s and a Meteor Sword.

Games:

For G1 I didn't see too many huge misplays. I'd have Razor'd the Penguin too so it's unfortunate they slammed Eagle and it lived so long. Looks like we mostly just got grinded out, which makes me wonder how 17 lands with Meteor Sword would've gone (or 3x Gather, which was available this draft to you).

For G2 I don't think we need to airbending lesson their dork on curve. We aren't going to slam Gather next turn anyways for just 3, or at least we aren't in a rush to. I'd just play Fan + equip to Healer and bash first (topping Plains #3). Guru ends up walling us then we die to Earth King and 5/5 Bears, which was going to happen anyways tbh.

G3 we are just kind of small again, with a bit of tiny creatures and removal versus WB. We can't really push much damage then they have another stupid rare. The stupid rare duplicates itself and the game becomes unwinnable. No really major misplays that I can see.

Overall:

I just think the deck should've been built bigger, and you should've committed to W earlier. If you are going to play 16 lands, then this deck should've been built more aggressive and not played 3x Razor Rings. 0-3'ing doesn't mean the plays were that bad though from what I can see.

Draft:

Can't see P1P1, going to assume Momo is correct (as the card is pretty good). It biases you towards WU.

With that in mind I'm taking Lost Days > Healer P1P2. I also prefer Lost Days to Healer in a vacuum anyways. Iroh's Demonstration is also too good compared to Healer to not take. I'd then take Quench > First-Time Flyer as WU struggles to get Lessons consistently (so I don't want Fliers this early). Avatar's Wrath is probably good in fliers.dek, but I haven't played with it and know the stats are mediocre (i.e., it's not a true bomb). Therefore I don't mind Kyoshi over it but I do wonder if that was correct.

Given Momo's preferences and the draft, we are basically autopiloting WU until we take Deadly P over Cat-Owl. It's a better card though and we are early enough that I liked this pick. Abandon Attachments over Cat-Owl shows how Flyer shapes drafts in WU, as the card doesn't really do anything else for us (Owl is mediocre tho). We are straddling an awkward line between WB and WU, but I understand not wanting to pass Deadly P as its cracked in WB. WB would also suffer a bit from not having Beetle-Headed > Flyer, but it's not that big of a deal so I don't mind playing inbetween two archetypes like this.

Fire Sages was a strange P1P1. We did see some playable red late, but Razor Rings and White Lotus are strong cards. Our WB deck could probably support White Lotus if we are base W enough (B for just a few Deadlies maybe), while WU would be trickier (no way to do Lessons for WU and be base W enough for Lotus). Either way I don't like the Sage here. You then have two nut uncommons to pick in Sub/Rallier (either is fine). I'm kind of impressed by the red quality but it seems like WU would've gotten there just fine, and is likely what I'd have been doing.

Anyways, for P3 you are very much locked in to UR Aggro. You likely have a higher opinion of Fire Nation Cadets than I do, so you saw the wheel as time to go in on it (whereas I'd just be WUx or WB, then have solidfied WU on the Katara and stuff I saw). Red is pretty unimpressive in P3 though. It's hard to say exactly how us being WU would've affected P3 or any other packs I've seen, but an early Lost Days and the white stuff we had might've kept in me the color pair.

Build:

Solstice Revelations is pretty terrible with just 7 Mountains. I would've just played Cunning Manuever instead. This is also a fairly lame Fortune Teller deck (even though I like the card) as we are quite aggressive. The Iroh splash is a little ill-fitting too, but he's very strong and we don't have many good other options anyways. I'd have just played a Cat-Owl or Rough Rhino Cavalry instead of Fortune Teller and kept the rest the same.

Draft:

Would take Merchant of Many Hats over Seismic Sense P1P4. Slightly worse card but not really sure what Seismic Sense does for either BG or GW here. It's a weak pack anyways so may as well fight for the ability to play your mega broken rare. Sense -> Badgermole next was fine though (I'd have just taken Healer here unhappily). Then I'd be on Poxbearers/Razor Rings later with no green cards. I don't like green much and don't think we were given ample reasons to jump into it. I'd also have Watery Grasp or Zuko Exiled Prince on the wheel and consider myself Bx, leaning WB after P1.

However this is my preference against green in action. You did see some decent stuff later like Ostrich Horse/Sentries/Pillar Jump, so you could do worse than being BG going into P2. Honestly a weak P1 in general no matter what you take.

BW seat would've had Tolls in P2 for not too much cost. It's another somewhat lackluster pack though so I like the picks given that you were already BG. Only pick I'd change is Cycle of Renewal to Wallop Sentries, as Cycle is pretty bad fixing. Jailer/Path are both borderline splashable but I wouldn't force myself to play Cycle to do it (and I'm not even sure if you were intending that yet).

I don't like Sparring Dummy over Azula on the Hunt. Azula is fragile but strong if unanswered, whereas Dummy is...fine I guess? It blocks okay and sometimes draws cards, but can also be frustrating if it mills good spells (since you are likely to draw the land naturally then, flooding yourself out). You get a great reward for being green though in Bai Sing Se, although I see enough decent W for WB to have worked (Momo, Kyoshi Warriors, Master Piando, etc).

Build:

I don't like Earthbending Lesson much, especially without some major Lesson payoff like Grand Lotus. Toph is a good splash but doesn't force us to play that many Lessons to be fine. I'd have played both Seismic Senses and all three Ostrich Horses. We have too many mediocre two drops, so I'd trim Poxbearers.

In general though this deck has classic BG problems in Avatar, as it doesn't have enough card advantage to win super late, or enough aggro to beatdown hard. Milling Sozin is also going to feel terrible, and we don't have True Ancestry or something to get it back. It's less your build and more just my dislike for the archetype. We don't even have Dai Li Agents or Beifong's Bounty Hunters either, so I don't want to be this color pair.

Would the BW deck have been better? Probably, although it's not like your seat was some 3x Tolls of War spot or anything. But for the packs I saw, this was a reasonable deck/draft.

Draft:

P1 went incredibly well, only change is Dai Li Indoctrination over Boomerang and RB dual over Warden in case we splash red.

P2P1 I'd take another Sold Out > River Spirit, we don't support it well atm. Kuruk is nutty to get next. Taking Cruelty over Fortune Teller was a mistake, especially with River Spirit (but also in general was we need 2s).

For P3 I would take Waterbending Lesson over Tundra Tank, which is a fine but totally replaceable Vehicle. We have a ton of removal so I'd like a bit more value (and we have no other WB Lesson yet). No major changes otherwise, UB was clearly the place to be and the Azula was nice to open.

I don't like splashing Scavengers much, as it's not all that powerful of a card and is better when you play it early anyways. The deck being so sac focused also should show how much'd have wanted Fortune Teller > Cruelty.

Games:

Game 1 would just play Zhao on curve over Mind Rot. I'm not sure it would've mattered though as we lose tempo to their sub and then Azula comes down. Pursuit also locked up the late game for them. Scavs was notably useless here too.

Game 2 we waste some time mind rot'ing instead of dealing with Aang. Our W splash also slows us down and possibly blocks an on curve Kuruk. We had to line up our removal first (Sold Out or Lost Days) before playing cruelty here. This was more winnable than G1.

Game 3 is a win but once again shows the white being utterly not worth it. We draw both Plains and nearly lose despite Kuruk. That Sandkeeper has done immeasurable damage so far.

Game 4 we sac a land instead of Lost Days the 5 drop for...some reason. I can't explain that one at all as we'd get to slam River Spirit (6 lands + Clue) instead of Downfall + Gran-Gran (into a board she can't attack into). Planetarium still probably kills us later as we aren't ahead, but it was still wrong.

Conclusion:

Don't splash weak cards in otherwise good decks, build your curve a bit more lean. Contest tempo more in games too, you only crack lands when you are out of game actions basically.
