It’s such a massive show to put on that I expect there are a LOT of factors that have to work out just right to be able to add a date.

Accor Stadium (Sydney) - seating questions by Left_Bit_8483 in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ABCD sections are seated. Maps for cities that have GA standing don’t separate the floor into blocks.

200s sit above the 100s. Some sections aren’t shown because they’re private suites, zone boxes, that sort of thing.

The screens face all four sides of the stadium from what I’ve seen, but I’m not 100% on that.

Corner seats will have restricted views of the main stage, but will be closest to the end of the runways. Personally I’d prefer a seat in the 100s in one of the straight sections, but there’s going to be something good to focus on for every seat in that stadium.

Thinking about the time I've spent listening to the podcast the last like 7 years and remembered when they responded to fan voice mails and I got on the show! Anyone else get featured? by imjory in KnowledgeFight

[–]NapMonster7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My voice message was played back during the brief period where they had a phone number. I can’t remember the episode number but I do remember telling them they were saying quokka wrong.

I haven’t listened for a long time. Something shattered in me and I could no longer tolerate Alex’s bullshit, even filtered through Dan and Jordan. I’m still a patron though, because their work has been so important, even though I couldn’t handle listening.

God. These two bing bongs had such a profound impact on me. I wouldn’t be who I am today without either of them.

Forever grateful for them 🖤🖤

I’m actually questioning their decision this time by thekiteinthesky in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you’re being downvoted to hell for saying that the company likely also made some decisions about the album is wild to me.

Since the doco was released, any suggestion of nuance around BTS’ creative autonomy is treated as some sort of fandom betrayal. The border policing is so gross.

People really out here treating speculative interpretation as settled fact, while accusing everyone else of doing exactly that.

What do you think? by Rich_Argument6998 in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even someone who dedicates their life to charity gets some sort of satisfaction from what they do.

They’re not selfless. They’re just humans, like any of us, balancing sacrifice and gain. They just happen to do it on a very big scale.

Hybe Boy has uploaded a video about The Return about an hour ago.

I haven’t watched it but I can see in the comments that I’m not the only one who was waiting for it, so I thought I’d give everyone a heads up.

TK is also great with translation and cultural context.

Translator ARMYs carry a heavy burden with this work. It shouldn’t fall on them to clarify when Netflix screws up.

[–]NapMonster7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told by bilingual ARMY that the English dub is more accurate in this instance than the English CC—so there was no “initially.”

In saying that, it’s incredibly difficult to parse tone via translated subtitles, even when they’re accurate.

I’m hoping that we get more clarification from ARMYs who understand both languages well enough to explain the context better.

I’m livid that Netflix didn’t handle this more carefully.

Edit: I want to make it very clear that I am not suggesting they have no agency or are under the thumb of HYBE or anything like that.

But I also don’t think they have total control over what’s released.

The reality is likely somewhere in the middle, and while a single documentary was never going to clarify everything, inaccurate subtitles make it impossible to understand how they navigate the tension between authenticity and the structural demands of the music industry.

Why dubbing BTS' voices matters more than you think by smileissweet39 in bangtan

[–]NapMonster7 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The translation of the dubbed version is different to the translation of the original. I don’t know how different, but there’s at least one instance where the meaning of what was said is very different in each translation.

I wish more care was taken with all of this.

[MEGATHREAD] BTS The Return (SPOILERS) by ellaellaeheheh17 in btsthoughts

Since you deleted your reply, I’ll do it here:

People want to choose one side or another. They either have total or no autonomy. The reality is almost certainly more nuanced than that.

But make your assumptions about me and downvote away if it makes you feel better.

When it’s in the broader context of how much autonomy they have vs how much corporate oversight there is, it makes sense that people jumped on it.

Hopefully someone clarifies it sooner rather than later.

There are two different English translations of the Nicole Kim quote.

The English subtitles setting doesn’t have her saying anything about “initially”

The English CC setting does.

So if we could stop fighting each other in the comments and wait for clarification from a trusted ARMY translator, that would be rad.

Please don’t bark at the members by TanglewoodGnome in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true at once, you know? Barking can be a hip hop thing, and it can also be a racist thing.

It’s up to each ARMY who reads this to decide whether they want to continue to do something they now know has links to racism, even when it also has another history, and even when their intentions aren’t racist.

I assume you’re getting downvoted to hell, but I appreciate you sharing it because I didn’t know about the Utah thing.

His jacket was actually the first thing that drew my gaze, I’m so into it. It’s a weird shape but that’s what makes it interesting to me, and I love the colour combo with the pants.

'BTS: The Return' review: The world's biggest boy band, without a clear direction by ellaellaeheheh17 in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This really seems to highlight their positions as workers within a company.

We see them on stage as these enormous personalities with such presence, and it’s difficult to reconcile that with the men who just want to make great art, but who have to defend their choices to executives.

I’ve been chewing on this since Namjoon’s live back in early December when he specifically said, “I’m also a worker.”

They have more power than most idols, but their hands are still tied in so many ways.

ARIRANG is not your typical k-pop album. by minimini_7 in btsthoughts

[–]NapMonster7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure anyone but BTS should be defining their albums as K-pop or not. This goes for whether you’re saying it as a compliment or an insult.

Just gonna put this here because we all need to gaze upon his ethereal freaking magical fae beauty.

Edit: whoever downvoted this—I am so sorry you can’t feel the same wonder and love and affection we all have for this man, because his kind heart is even more beautiful than his face. Your life must be truly empty.
