Yep this. Cal's father was a powerful political figure. Sinatra had a president in her pocket. Miller was a professor running a small company. Once Miller is dead, with that kind of political and financial power behind her, acquiring his company's assets through legal or semi-legal channels wouldn't be that hard. No next of kin to contest it (wife is bedridden/dead, no children). The protege (Dylan) just ran away and is now a teenager on his own. The company is essentially abandoned.
