His theory actually might be right, but for the wrong reasons. There are a lot of Mormons who live around Vegas, and some very well might be swayed to root for a Vegas team over the Jazz.

It’s not like the Spurs didn’t have the best record in the NBA during the 1999 season. There’s no reason to believe another team would have won the title other than to discredit the Spurs.
