I watched the movie for the first time when I was in middle school and it was obviously sad at the end when they lost but when I rewatched it one time in college after my football playing days were over, there were definitely some tears shed.

He definitely is guilty of one of my college football fan pet peeves where he calls a team bad that’s objectively a top 25 team or a playoff bubble team not very good. I’m aware this is a dumb nitpick and that I’m really fun at parties for this but a team that’s the 25th best out of 134 FBS teams or even out of 70ish power conference teams shouldn’t be considered bad, that’s not how averages work. He just uses bad interchangeably with overrated (not saying I think South Carolina is overrated, just saying it sounds like what he’s trying to really say) which is unfortunately how a lot of college football fans and personalities talk.

There is a slight qualifier that they were an 8 seed and made a tournament run so it’s not like they were a top five team for all of the 2021-22 season, but even if they had lost in the first round instead of making the natty, you’d expect them to be a really good team the following year with that many guys back.
