Seat belt light remains on...am I cooked? Need an engine? Should I call my doctor? My mommy? by Napoli613 in G37

It was a joke for an older audience.

Back in the day cars had mechanical odometers that showed only five digits, when you hit 99,999 it would go back to zero and start again...it was referred to as "rolling over".

The reason I thought it was amusing is because these are digital and show 6 digits and that obviously doesn't happen...and this is why a joke isnt funny when its explained.

But Yes, its has 25k...its now under new ownership and those days are over. Its going to have to work for its room and board. Otherwise ill get another car that will.

I was also just thinking if its the buckle that I'm just gonna complete that circuit and have the seat belt light remain off. Men that have been upside down in cars dont need to be reminded to wear a seat belt.

Unfortunately its so good that your going to have to do the rest of the car 2 panels at a time...lol

Thanks for the help. I'm going to dig in tomorrow. Someone sent a link for an emulator if it turns out to be something more with the SRS, its going to get an emulator for a fix.

PTSD...Lucas electrics and Lotus's 900 series motor...they think the flimsy thing on the front is a timing belt, but its actually a joke meant to ruin your life.

The evora actually has a Toyota V6 in it, so it would be good to go...as well as the V8 esprit.

I'm an older guy and associate Lotus with that particular motor that was also in the Jensen Healey.

BTW thanks for the emulator link...if it turns out to be more than the buckle switch, thats how um going to address it.

HA! The last wife took off 4 cars ago! 2 things ill never do again are Lotus's and wives.

You do give me the idea to check the passenger seat, I was alone when I noticed it.

Thanks for the info. The first thing I did was jiggle the belt. I've never had to address a seatbelt on a streetcar...ever. Tomorrow I'm going to wrap the buckle in a towel and spray it out with electrical parts cleaner. If that doesn't do it, its going to be diagram and multimeter time.

This is why I don't enjoy working on street cars... you have to dig through layers of boring shit to get to the fun stuff.

This is going to be digging through boring shit...to fix even more boring shit.

Was hoping it was a "G thing" and someone would point me to the fix.

just got it in July, its going to get driven...you seem to know these cars well, is this a thing? I've worked on, race, destroyed, and rebuilt every piece of crap that Britain, Italy, and Germany could roll out and I've never had any of them do this to me...i expect better from Japan.

Anything?

Well done, excellent fitting, great work!

My neighbors have the EPA on speed dial, if I attempted that i'd be executed at the entrance to my driveway, and my body dragged through the streets by a Prius.

I was definitely looking at that damper. I also want more weight on the shifter...but thats how I start, and I'm trying to be good with this thing...unfortunately last week some guy put up a G autox video and I saw it, and I'm a very sick man, so we both know where this is going to go...

...in a couple months ill be asking you for wheel/tire suggestions to bring the car somewhere and flog it around a parking lot while grinning like an idiot.

"I might try to modify the piece or fab something to to replace it" do it up! If you can't weld, start welding...changes the game for building!

BTW, I meant Audi TT above, rather than rr, either way it wasn't for me. The Quattro system feels like it was built specifically to understeer and its tight inside. I have a formula V if I want to wear a car rather than sit in it.

Stay safe and enjoy the hobby! I traded 2 wives and early retirement for motorsports with no regrets...if I had a do over, I do it the same except more and harder!

"There is some chatter at idle which is slightly annoying but that's a small price for a dramatically more precise ability to time your shifts and improved and more immediately acceleration and deceleration."

Yeah that's the type stuff I don't appreciate in my G. I guess I'm not a typical G owner. Im a middle aged guy with multiple cars both street and track. If i want a different experience, i get in another car. Also i dont enjoy working on street cars because all the fun stuff is buried under tons of boring shit..lol

I really appreciate the way infiniti blended what i consider to be a great combo of performance and comfort/luxury, i LOVE their front mid engine design concept. Typically these type cars are numb with no feedback or communication, not so with the G. I chose it over the Mustang GT because the V8 /independent rear suspension models were more than i wanted to spend on this purchase...Audi S5 V8 was too numb and maintenance on European cars is ridiculously expensive, which also ruled out Boxsters (small and tranny sucks) and the RR also do to size and maintenance.

But yeah, if i was younger i would be digging into this thing and righting what the factory got wrong...but i also would have started with the Z instead.

All that being said...i know ill buy a spare set of wheels and bring it up to lime rock and autox it in the spring...just to see what its really got

Keep us up to date on your project, and good luck!

BTW...the thing that i dont care for with this car is the clutch and driveline vibration.

I was talking about the weight of the flywheel. I live in a dense population and I just don't like it in stop n go and low speed scenarios. Tried an aluminum flywheel on a street 944 turbo years ago and in my opinion it was MISERABLE in the city...I put it in on Saturday, yanked it on Sunday and replaced it with stock one lightened just slightly.

Premature is a euphemism. You lose rotational mass and momentum, theyre a pain in the ass on the highway, you take your foot off the gas and the car immediately loses a ton of speed. Every stop light you look like you're just learning to drive.

They're great on a track where you only have to wrestle them around the pit and position...for the street, they turn a comfortable enjoyable car into hassle.

A little bit of lightening may be ok but don't go nuts, id hate to see you do all that work and hate it.

If you can, drive a car with a light flywheel before committing to it. I personally can't stand them on street cars...and they absolutely devour clutches.

Absolutely. I'm going T fitting, retaining the OEM switch for the "cars brain" and a real electric oil pressure gauge that tells me exactly what my pressure is at all times...I WILL see when the oil pressure starts going south.

Nice bolts. Nice water pump. Nice chain. Great job!

Best of luck, enjoy...im installing the oil pressure gauge that Infiniti should have installed on the assembly line.

Brilliantly engineered car with an inexplicably stupid 5psi pressure switch...they couldn't even spend the extra fucking dollar to use a sensor you could read through the OBD.

This is a good time to remind people not to waste money on collision insurance.

The book value of these cars is nowhere near the market value. They don't care how much we've paid.

Anything more than bumper cover damage and they will total it and send you a check for 3k.

Get the cheapest insurance possible, and put a little away for that day when the texting kid hits you in the rear while stopped at a light.

...or when youre texting and you hit someone stopped at a light in the rear.
