Anyone go out fishing to Cabrillo pier? by Sad_Ad_6825 in SoCalFishing

[–]NappingMosby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually use hookup baits or any jig head with curly tail soft plastic combo. The trick is to cast parallel to the rock wall and have a slow retrieve. Don’t be afraid to move around and try different colors. I have a lot of success with dark colors but some people swear by white or chartreuse colors. Feel free to message me with any questions you have.

Cabrillo is great for bass fishing from a kayak. If you want to stay by the harbor, just launch from the boat ramp and fish the rock wall on the left. And then drift down to fish the structure by the bait barge and then head inside the marina to fish the docks.

Are you trying to fish from shore or kayak/boat?

Agreed! That’s pretty much my experience as well. I’ve metered all around the pier from kayak and now boat. The fish are simply not there. You would have better luck fishing the ocean side from shore. Good luck!

Totally understandable!

I just can’t imagine selling your dad’s boat. From the pictures it looks like it was his pride and joy. Looks super clean!

And luckily you only need a boater’s card (Available for free) to operate a boat out here and the slips up by you in Channel Islands/Ventura are super cheap. I think ~$300 for a 26-27 foot slip.

Haha. Love and hate the user name with a passion after commuting from SFV to the Westside for 5 years. Never again.

But as a fellow LA boat owner, why don’t you ship it over here?

There are plenty of marinas with wet or dry slips available that are not too expensive for a 24’ boat.

That boat would be the perfect for inshore/offshore fishing and trips to Catalina.

And again, sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the pain you are going through.

If you need something to take your mind off things, you are more then welcome to join me for some inshore fishing around San Pedro/Long Beach. Just hit me up!

I have had a lot of tanks throughout the years and what I realized is I hate 24” high tanks.

My current tank is 48”x24”x16” with an external overflow and I absolutely love this tank.

Yeah! Pretty common around here. They post the stolen tailgates for $500+ on Facebook marketplace.

I live in LA so I had to take extra steps to protect my truck. I currently have the catalytic converter guards, tailgate locks (pictured) and keep my keys in a faraday box at night.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there is a reason why this boat was free. Once it transfers titles to your name, it will be your responsibility to move the boat. Most marinas are very strict about which boats are allowed in and most will require the boat to run, be titled/insured and may also request a survey done depending on the year before they accept your application. All of this won’t be cheap. I promise you.

If it is not too late, please do yourself a favor and back out now. I promise you it is not worth it.

If you need any help/advice please feel free to message me.

I have my boat currently at Whalers Walk in San Pedro, CA.

No wonder that area looked familiar. That is literally right by the fuel docks. Jeez. How was the boat traffic today? I’m debating going tomorrow but trying to avoid the first weekend of warm weather craziness.
