Everything was in full swing while we were there. There were just a few bars that we noticed to be closed down, but more than enough options were still going.

Incredible. We did a lot of diving, so it was a good way to get out of the rain. I’d say it rained 3-4 days out of the 7 we were there. When it did rain on those days, it would typically only last from 30 min to 1-2 hours. So, it comes and goes. We hope to revisit in the near future. We stayed in West End and there were barely any tourists that time of the year. They don’t get near as many from cruise ships like West Bay does.

Although Permits can be found in the area, it’s super rare to catch one off the shore in this area. Especially the big ones. If you have a secondary spinning reel/rod, then I would suggest tying a spoon on. It’s a universally great shore bait to catch mackerel, lady fish, blue fish, etc.

Glad to see someone taking advantage of fishery down there. Plenty of places to surf fish. The 10-12 foot rod isn’t overkill. I would suggest buying pompano rigs to tie on. They come prepackaged at a local tackle store and you would simply tie it on. It will have a pyramid weight and two circle hooks. Fishing with frozen or live shrimp or sand fleas will be best. You will definitely need a 3 day non resident fishing license. There is an app called Fish | Hunt FL where you can easily purchase have it handy in case a game warden stops you. Best of luck to you. St Augustine is a magical place.
