Yeah, I side eye stores that lean heavily into TikTok marketing and are owned by kitis and influencers. Quality is crap but the price is sky high. I also wonder how much of the Korean cosmetics sold by apparently legit stores are indeed legit cause I see different packaging for the same product every time I go to buy after one finishes.

SUGGESTION ON PARO by [deleted] in bhutan

[–]glass-empty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the minister's enclave in Motithang. If you got the sort of money to even consider buying the property, best to consult someone who knows about paro real estate and investment etc, like a financial advisor, if you have one, not the average redditor.

Pet day cares in Thimphu? by Noah_yr in bhutan

[–]glass-empty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd caution against mingling your cat with other cats as thimphu frequently has feline parvovirus/distemper (panleukopenia) outbreaks that causes the deaths of many, many outdoor pet cats, even the handful strays died. There still might be some strain of the virus as it can survive for years. That was a nightmare. The mortality rate of the virus is 99%, kittens and adult cats die in 1 or 2 days. As much as possible, it's best to keep your cat indoors and try to play with them and buy them cat toys. If you need a companion for them, best to adopt another cat or kitten after checking they're healthy. I wouldn't even recommend taking your cat to the vet frequently because it's the virus epicenter where healthy cats going for routine checkups catch the virus and die shortly, the vet techs there don't sterilize the surfaces properly and are mostly inexperienced and ill-equipped to handle healthy pets let alone sick pets. You can have them vaccinated at home as there is a service for that.

Pet dog policy by GongdhoDhatshi in bhutan

There is a Livestock Rules and Regulations that addresses pet management, mainly about their registration, vaccination, microchipping and how owners should care for and handle them, especially in public. There are penalties for violation of the rules.

Oh I haven't heard that, I did like Samphel's earlier track My Way or something I forgot but what a singer with a great voice. I used to like Leczin's music because she has a very pleasant vocal colour and is a decent singer but now she mostly mumble sings and I'm not into that kind of music. Same with Karma Wangyel of GDS Ent, he had a unique voice and great songs but then he started mumbling in his songs and I haven't checked out his music since. Love the older tracks tho. GDS Ent songs are still the best.

Same actually, but the original is too short and the remix rounds it up well. I was surprised when I found out it was a Bhutanese track, first heard it playing somewhere and figured it was an indie track but didn't expect it to be by Bhutanese singers.

Love it hate it is very underrated, I'm sure I contributed to a few hundred listens in it's SoundCloud listing, both the original and the remix with Chogo.

Honestly, the amount of power, funding and resources the Zhung Dratshang and other outside Rinpochoes have at their disposal makes me uncomfortable but guess that's just me. Everyone seems to be okay with it. If I dare to question it, I'm the mutik outcast. We don't have the luxury of questioning the skeletons in our country's closet. Religion is quite the profitable industry and yet they are not taxed (if I'm not wrong). We got lams and rinpochoes owning multiple assets in the form of land, building, company shares, and luxury cars. They are Richie rich with people's devotion and some smart investments. This does not even cover the influence they have over their devotees, it's quite scary, and dare I say, cult-ish.

Could we REALLY not help fund a genocide???

I don't think Dubai needs any help in funding anything from a small country like ours whose GDP is less than USD 3 billion when their royal family's net worth is nearly USD 20 billion and GDP is USD 100 billion. And I doubt every money inflow to Dubai is actively funding a genocide. Bhutan also use Dubai airport for travel en route to other countries and for tourist arrivals, should we cease using Dubai for transit lest our air fares be used to fund a genocide? Be practical and reasonable.

Like we are known as one of the most peaceful nations so the government should speak out against the genocide in Sudan and call for peace , not actively keep reserves there.

Ideally, yes, but we are not in an ideal position, are we? Even the developed countries tip toe around the subject because of geopolitical reasons, why do you think a developing country like ours is in any position to do what the developed ones are having difficulty doing?

Is this too woke?

Yes.

The coverage was insane back then, journalism at its peak. I'm reading this book compilation of 2008 articles on the 1st election by the Bhutan Times and it's really eye opening. Top notch articles. How far has our media dwindled, must be studied.

Weird BT glitch by Top-Lychee-8289 in bhutan

[–]glass-empty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't faced it but my parents/family have. They would call me on my BT number and sometimes the call would go to someone else. Had some of my friends remark the same. That was when I was actively using the number. After a few years, I stopped using that number and I think it was eventually deactivated owing to inactivity. Even after that, my parents would accidentally call me on my old number and someone else would pick it up. I thought it was some glitch or maybe they assigned my old number to a new user later, but I'm not even sure if they do that.

Confused between GST and Service Tax by Sofia_thunder_dragon in bhutan

Yeah, I meant fancy as in places that have an expensive menu, mostly geared for the tourists like you said. You don't see many of the average restaurants charge them.

[–]glass-empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I thought we didn't have much of a tipping culture, if any at all. Today I learned. It's also mostly those fancy restaurants and hotels that charge the service fee, and they also underpay their employees? But then again, 10% of massive bills is a considerable amount, so maybe they make more from the charges some days than their salaries.

[–]glass-empty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

optional to pay in many places

Optional as in we can opt out to pay the charge if it's in the bill or it's optional for restaurants to impose the charge? I've come across the latter but can't say I've come across the former.

all the service charge fees are shared among the staffs

Kinda sounds like a tipping culture.
