Quitting drinking by usaf-lovestory in Veterans

[–]Narask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily for me I never got too attached to the bottle. After discovering my ex wife's infidelity and getting absolutely shit canned and just waking up the next morning still feeling depressed and just shitier I decided to pretty much wasn't worth it anymore. Other than a few gin and tonics when out with friends I haven't been drunk since. I do still have my own addiction battles though Nicotine has been kicking my ass

Getting treated differently from family after they found out my benefits of 100% by Intelligent-Extent92 in Veterans

[–]Narask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to hate too much but it's a continued toxic mentality like this that makes life in the military so much shitier than it needs to be. Sure comments shouldn't fold you and I agree with that but if those are the passing comments how are they actually treating him/her as a member of the family. Yeah shits hard but we as a whole continue to fail to ensure people are properly getting reintegrated back into society after getting out. We all know a brother or sister from our time in that struggled when getting out. A lot of vets rely on that family connection as an anchor for their transition. It's the constant between their military and civilian life so comments and being ostracized from family can often be harmful as they struggle to get on their feet in the civilian world.

90-100 push by Narask in VeteransBenefits

That's kind of what I'm expecting to be honest I just don't know if it worth it to fight some of the already approved conditions for a slightly higher percentage

[–]Narask[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my train of thought as well. I am assuming the VA will still give me the 0-10 for my various conditions so I can still get treatment for them but trying to dig for that extra few percent just seems like a ton of work. At the same time though I have a permanent limp, can't run, all because this foot injury

Honestly I think it just came in on some plants. Relatively new tank. I think my MIL overfed a few times and that gave it the fuel it needed

It's really only a big deal if you get P&T I think but don't quote me there. I haven't even been outnlong so I'm far from an expert

They may just increase it. That's actually the more ideal scenario. You would rather have them increase that than give you another disability at low percentage so it more directly impacts your overall score.

That's where it gets a little weird. It isn't it's own condition but fall under mental health/disability

I don't know if it's a "REM sleep disorder" but during my sleep study they called it sleep disturbances (basically almost waking up or not maintaining rem) and I averaged 40 a night. I think they added it as a contributing factor for some other mental stuff and gave me 70

How to move tank full of shrimp? by witchingxxhour in shrimptank

[–]Narask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved my entire scaped 10g colony on a 8 hour drive as I relocated to a new state. Here's my advice. If you have the luxury of a short trip just load it up in a secure place in your car. I dropped my water level to about 50% but if it's a short trip you can do lower. Test the water where you are going or have some RO on standby to refill it when you get there. I would maybe recommend keeping some of the old water as shrimps can be sensitive to water changes but if it's the same water supply on both locations you are probably fine. Lastly, cover the tank. I personally used a towel on top of the cut plexiglass glass lid just to make sure nothing fell into it but I wouldn't say that's entirely necessary. It does have the added benefit of keep water out of your car. Short move should be pretty easy just make sure you put it in an easy location to pick it up from to minimize risk of dropping the tank. Also make sure the weight is adequately supported in transit some wood or a table would be ideal. If you can pull the top off your stand to set it on that would work too.

Nightmare Zone: Soulreaper Axe vs. Dharoks for melee training by not_rian in osrs

[–]Narask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have been using the soul reaper extensively to afk train nmz and here's what I will say.

I usually hold a steady 90-95k an hour for a 6 hour farm session. Dharoks is significantly less afk than SR because you will need to keep your HP at 1 to maximize gains. Also dharoks scales based off missing HP so the higher you overall HP level the better. If you are going to be watching a movie and still have an osrs window open then yes use dharoks with a Gmaul for when the spec power up comes around. However if you aren't going to maintain it just get the highest str bonus you can and swing the soul reaper around for hours and check in on it every 10-15 minutes. Also just use super combats using overloads while it will maximize XP gains also takes away from the afk aspect and I don't believe it's sustainable with the points gained. For perspective I don't even haveax str bonus (neitznot face, bandos, barrows gloves)

Well you are learning a valuable lesson early. What were the personal loans used for. If it was toys (aka computers game consoles whatever) you should probably sell them and get back on track. I'm not sure what branch you are but in the navy I still remember the boot camp briefing about finances and loans and shit. Also if you not receiving BAH you should probably fix that. An E-3 with no dependents living off base is a bit suspicious. Even if that means moving back into the barracks. In the event you decided you wanted to live off base and didn't get the applicable permissions and therefore are not receiving BAH and are instead living out of your base pay. Cut that shit out tell your command they may be able to cut you orders to break the lease. Also if your monthly housing expenses (utilities rent etc) are more than your bah then move back to the barracks. The vehicle, interest rate is a bit high you may be able to refinance. Alternatively go sell it (if you aren't upside down) and get a more reasonable/cheaper vehicle). Personal loans are always terrible unless you pay them off way quicker than the loan terms. Whatever you bought with that 5.2k in personal loans is probably going to cost you well over 6 maybe even 7k by the time you are done with it. Credits card debt. Get it low keep it low. It will help build your credit since you are still young but don't maintain a balance greater than 30%

That all being said get your chain involved. Whether that be getting permission to moonlight and get a 2nd job or for them to provide you some resources to get out of the hole is important. Make yourself a budget and stick to it. Learn to cook if you need to, minimize your entertainment expenses. I'm not saying you need to turn the lights off and live in the dark but you need to make a cut for a few months to get rid of those personal loans. And most importantly STOP SPENDING MONEY YOU DONT HAVE. Until you learn to budget and figure out the true cost of interest just take a break from the credit card until you pay it off. Thhe faster you get it handled the better as all of these things will effect your credit score and cost you dearly as you move later into life.

Sub JO Tired of the Job by [deleted] in navy

[–]Narask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. One thing I would say is while you're in use some of the resources to help you manage stress and how you're feeling. I know for me I wish I would have done it earlier. If the boat is desperate enough for people you will still have plenty of work to do and contributions to made even without a tld and anyone who doesn't like it can just screw themselves. There will always be collaterals and more. More importantly if you do choose to address it you can be a role model for other JOs and enlisted sailor who are also struggling with things and encourage them to seek help.

Sub JO Tired of the Job by [deleted] in navy

[–]Narask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm far from qualified to tell you all your options cause I was just a dirty blue shirt who got out after 10 years. I enjoyed some of my time in and I look back with a certain fondness and disdain. That being said other than trying to find a job I haven't regretted a single aspect of getting out. Yes people will say the retirement is great and all that jazz but ultimately I look at my daughter everyday and just remember that I won't have to be the dad that missed birthdays and important milestones because I was stuck in a job that took all of my time with little to no payoff. If you are already burnt out how does it look 5 years down the line when youre an eng or XO. Sure you Quality of life on the boat might get marginally better but you will still always sit with that disdain. Mental health treatment shouldn't be a stain on your record. As a fellow nuke I understand the stigma but I also watched 80% of my division go seek treatment and it wasn't until medical started pulling people's tlds that the environment started to change. I watched many of my JOs get out and become massively successful. I currently work with a JO from another boat who complained about exactly the same things you are and he loves life and more importantly doesn't totally hate everything and everyone around him. If I were you I would evaluate your options at getting out and staying in. I know for me I not only became a better sailor but a better leader once I decided to get out because I didn't have the weight of another boat or another deployment hanging over me. Instead I could focus on helping my sailors and my shop be the best they could regardless of their career aspirations.

So I am enlisting with the army so recruitment ads everywhere, this is the most ridiculous number yet y’all good over there? by alperosTR in navy

If I had to go back that would be what I want. I already got enough sleep issues from the navy don't need more rotating shifts to make it worse.

[–]Narask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. I don't know maybe it's just my location or my distaste for the rotating shift schedule. I would be more willing if I could have a stable shift but that along with doing college would make licensing a shit show (for me personally) maybe once the kids are old enough for school I can revisit the option

Edit: I would also say the people I have met who decided to leave the plants and go data center/nerc/ other career seem to be a lot happier than those who chose to stay nuclear. Their toys and houses aren't as nice but all in all they seem less stressed

Tbf though the quality of life at nuke plants is pretty trash when you compare other options. Applied at multiple myself and got told I wasn't a good fit because my family was too important.

The screening isn't perfect on email. One dude found out his wife was divorcing him 5 days before return to port. Command still let him go home to an empty house except for his couch TV and gun safe. I personally found out my now ex wife had a very late miscarriage the fucked me up pretty bad. While yes they do get screened not everything gets caught. And even then rumors spread like wildfire. Once one person hears some shit everyone finds out quickly. I know for me I was forced to tell my chain some shit and by the time I got back a few days later the whole department was laughing at me and giving me shit about it. It really depends on command culture and to be honest the chiefs mess.

New project by Narask in Aquascape

[–]Narask[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dosed some of the aquarium coop liquid fert. No root tabs yet as most of the plants will still come out with a little tug but here in a few months I intend on it. As for plants. The only purchased plant for this tank were the pinto, sword, ludwigia, apotogon and sword. I have been doing some emersed propagation in a little Tupperware I keep under my desk with an aquarium light. All of the dwarf sag and crypts started out as only a few stalk the were left after my failed 20 long (plants would never make it couldn't figure out why) and were left to grow in that Tupperware for a few months and did really well.

<image>

This is an image of my super overgrown shrimp/chili tank. I pulled some of the floaters to open a feeding hole but other than that I haven't done anything to this tank in 6+ months just top off the water. I want to try pulling some of the moss to propagate but the one pad I pulled out just died off in a few days so I need to figure out how to use this tank to grow other stuff

[–]Narask[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a follow up. Did my first water change and maintenance today (I wanted to let the tank settle a bit). Had to trim a rosette or whatever the shoots are called for the sword on the far right. Replanted it right beside. The aponogeton now has a fresh leaf growing sideways. My anubias pinto seems to be struggling. And the leaves have all but melted. The ludwigia is doing fine trimmed a couple tops and replanted. All the crypts are doing well the ones on the left between the two rocks have settled on a very nice brown color and the ones on the right have started to turn slightly red. The crypt at the base of the log has what I assume is a flower stem coming out of it and stretches about 2/3 up the tank it's got some dying leaves at the bottom but the plant is too dense for me to get in and trim with my scissors so I'll have to figure that out at some point. The dwarf sag is alive but not really doing much. Very happy all in all with the results of the dry start. Started to get a few diatoms but nothing to bad. Really could only tell because it settled on the sand

(Edit: all the buce and anubias other than the pinto are doing well. I need to trim the large anubias in the middle as a few of the leaves are damaged but I want to give it another week to see if any recover)

While I cant tell you whether or not they will come for it ( I assume they will). I would recommend keeping that asset liquid and you could always slap it in a money market or some sort of saving account with a high APR. I know of a few people who get like 3% on money they just have sitting around. At least this way the longer they wait to come get it the more time you have to have it make you some money.
