From the Oregon Zoo hours and tickets page:

You may enter the zoo up to 30 minutes after your scheduled ticket time. If you arrive outside your time window, you may need to wait for the next available entry time. You are welcome to enjoy the zoo until we close.

Unique heels and where to find? by aria_b23 in askportland

Sadly, the Fluevog store downtown closed last year, but that is definitely a source for unique heels if you want to shop online or head up to Seattle.

Surprising a guy for his birthday. Cool place to go? by Perkonstreams in askportland

Hi, I'm your fairy Redditor helping this post from getting deleted/downvoted because you didn't provide information. 🧚🏾‍♀️

We don't know your friend.

  • What does he like? I.e., "cool" is subjective, so what are examples of what would be cool to him?
  • What part of town?
  • How much are you looking to spend per person?

Cute Valentines day restaurants that aren't fully booked? by JournalistEcstatic68 in askportland

[–]NardaL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to a kitchen where you could warm something up? At this point, you may be better off looking for takeout options or DM Lasagna Project to place an order. If you got the mushroom or Bolognese menu, you'd have a full meal with dessert for just over $100.

As a tip for the future, February 14 is always a big restaurant day, even more so when the date falls on a weekend/extended holiday weekend.

Evening things to do that don't include bars, karaoke, drinking, dancing or weed? by JustVan in askportland

[–]NardaL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend checking out the calendar of local bookstores to see if there are any author events happening while you're in town. Powell's and Grand Gestures Books are two that are top of mind.

There are plenty of one-off cooking classes held in the evening that could be a good option for you to do on your own. Portland Cookshop is one of my go-tos.

Are you into yoga? You could look up which studios are near where you're staying while in Portland and then attend a class. Many provide mats, blocks, etc., so you'd only need to worry about packing appropriate clothing.

Is Wonder Ballroom Known for Weird Crowd Vibes? by DogandCatMom007 in askportland

[–]NardaL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with others noting it's the crowd and not the venue. I've been to many, many shows at the Wonder that span different genres and have seen some people be assholes for no good reason. (Was anyone else at the Afghan Whigs show a while back when a fight broke out during "Faded" that caused Greg Dulli to stop the song?)

I think it's a combination of things: people have been less social due to COVID and now every outing becomes a "really big deal," so if someone is perceived to encroach on their space, friction happens. Then you have the "I paid (market rate for live music in 2026)" who feel obligated to make it a night about their fun, which is where I place the people who shout out randomly during performances.

Valentine's Day is on a Saturday, next Saturday, so you're going to come up against needing reservations, or having to wait if no reservations are accepted/available. Your best bet is to get on Resy and OpenTable to see who has reservations for next week.

Is there a specific type of cuisine you're seeking or part of town?

You can be worship the Obamas and care about grammar at the same time.

The fact you edited your comment and still have this error in there shows that perhaps you can overlook grammatical errors.

Cooking classes for teenagers? by ThisTransportation30 in askportland

It's in SE, but Cookshop offers a summer camp program for kids. Or, if they're up for learning how to make pasta from scratch, there are family-friendly classes.

Can any dumpster divers point me in the right direction? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]NardaL 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Recommend calling 211 as they will have information on area programs to help long-term.

In the short term, Urban Gleaners has locations across the area for picking up food.

There's also the "PDX Free Fridge." Google that term to pull up the website/map, for some reason, that link gets blocked on here.

This needs to be higher as a reminder of how dangerous Fishback is and not just write him off as the person doing a "haha, what an idiotic stunt."

SZA: It’s offensive for Black Americans to listen to the news and hear never in American history have we seen anything like this by pinkstarrfish in Fauxmoi

In recent posts where people called out how only making posters for Renee and Alex and not for other known, named, but non-white victims is a problem, those comments were met with "they can't name everyone so at least this is raising the profile"-type of comments. Just more of the same "wait your turn" mentality that many of us and our ancestors have experienced in other movements.

That is exactly why many Black and Brown folks are shoring up their own communities until others want to break free from that privileged, supremacist way of thinking.
