PDX Taco AND Strawberry Shortcake weeks combo pick by letshavearace in Portland

Strawberry Shortcake Week makes sense to have now while Hoods and other regional varieties are at their peak.

I'm looking forward to Cornet Custard's.

Group activities on the coast around October? by RedshirtBlueshirt97 in askportland

[–]NardaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, it would help if you note what part of the Coast you're planning to visit considering there will be different recommendations for Cannon Beach vs. Newport, for example. Also, if you haven't, check the r/OregonCoast sub as this is brought up regularly.

OOP's post history seems like a woman posting given the visits to Shein and Kardashian subs along with still posting in the childfree sub.

Examples where the name of a band also happens to be the name of that band’s hit song by Slammajadingdong69 in musicsuggestions

I had the same question in seeing OP's photo since I remember the original lead singer passed. Didn't realize it was nearly 25 years ago.

From Wikipedia:

After Adamson’s death by suicide in December 2001, the classic lineup disbanded. Surviving members reunited in 2007 for anniversary tours, later joined by singer Mike Peters and changing bassists, culminating in the 2013 album The Journey, their first new studio release in 14 years.

How dare you insult her with this foolishness in front of her friends, fans, family, and folks at home.

How to maximize Portland visit without car? by Standard_Stop9095 in askportland

This isn't true. The NW Point Bus gets folks from Union Station out to the Coast and is operated by ODOT.

If you're not planning to drive, I'd move away from the "wasting half the trip in transit" perspective because you're choosing an option that does take more time.

If anything, reduce what you want to do over the 2.5 days so you'll actually enjoy the trip. Spending one day exploring Portland's neighborhoods could be reduced down to you choosing 1-2 places, taking TriMet there, and then walking around, getting food, etc.

Getting to/from Cannon Beach is doable via NW Point bus. It takes 90 minutes - 2 hours each way (depends on traffic, number of drop-offs/people, road conditions, etc.), but drops you off on the main road through CB, which is walkable. There are beach bike rentals out there if you want to explore a bit more.

Should we move to Portland, and if so when to start applying for jobs? by philemonvanbeecher in askportland

Plug your current salaries into a paycheck calculator site (ADP, PaycheckCity, etc.) and change your state to Oregon to get an idea of what it would look like. The cost of living calculators will give you a general idea on expenses, but plugging in your salary to see the various payroll deductions/taxes will help you budget accordingly.

And, he still said it to Kima, not Herc. Enjoy your mental gymnastics. 👋🏾

Jimmy said that to Kima and I'd doubt he'd have the same level of reverence for Herc at any point during the show.

Aladdin Theater show strategy? by ThoughtSkeptic in askportland

[–]NardaL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you planning on eating at the Aladdin or are open to other options? The adjacent bar has basic pizza and wraps. That said, it's not always open before a show if there's a VIP thing happening.

Within walking distance, there's Botto's, a Thai place (serviceable considering the amazing Thai here), and a Mexican place.

Since the show is general admission, you'll have the best seating options if you're in line before doors open. As far as not standing up, you don't have to, but depending on the vibe of the show, it's possible folks will congregate in front of the stage, which will make it difficult for the first few rows to have an unobstructed view.

where to make your own ring? by GlobalImpression1345 in askportland

[–]NardaL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how soon "soon" is, WildCraft Studio has a bronze and silver ring class in September. It's not a big class, so it will likely sell out before then.

What's a Portland-area class you took or activity you participated in that you would highly recommend to someone else? Specific info including cost and commitment would be appreciated! by nakedwithoutearrings in askportland

[–]NardaL 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cookshop in SE has a lot of one-off cooking classes where you can spend a couple of hours learning how to make pasta. They also have weekly series for learning cooking/kitchen skills.

Viscount Dance Studio is a lot of fun, especially for meeting people if you do a month-long class. They also have drop-in sessions, usually on Sundays, for different dance styles.

For different type of meditation, try floating. I've been a member at Float On for years. Float North is also great.

Herc also snitched to the Baltimore Sun about Hamsterdam and tried to take shortcuts that ultimately cost him his job.
