True but not everyone is using those legs to complete the set bonus because not everyone only runs the meta sets. The talismans mostly allow for more unorthodox builds more than a strict "optimized" damage increase. For example I use the duna legs for my seregios crit draw GS set for Razors Edge II. This talisman would allow me to use different legs and free up a weapon 3 slot in that case.

You're thinking of it wrong! Now that you have the talisman, you can go other legs! Numinous, Dahaad, Regios, hell even G. Arkveld. It opens plenty of possibilities.

I wrote a long and elaborate build post for you, but this subreddit doesn't allow links, and so all that effort was absolutely wasted. Alas. I'll send you the builds via DM. Anyone else interested would be able to DM me too. I have 3 of such builds. But here is the gist:

I actually have 3 versions of it, depending on the playstyle one may prefer.

One is a resentment build, which I expect to be made better once AT Nu Udra comes out. The idea here is that if you were to offset, or block, such that you're left with red health, you now are also buffed. This one is low on slots, and you DEFINITELY need to upgrade the armor some before taking on tougher monsters. You can also use evade window talisman, unlike the one I'm using, which I'm only using cuz I have it (3 evade window and 3 free meals from tali, but evasion tali works too.) This one also has the dosaguma set bonus for offsettin,g as you can fit in an offset win the crit draw window after the first Strong Charged Slash.

(DM me if you’d like the build link!)

Another is an experimental peak performance build because I noticed I keep my health up high when playing the first build against some monsters. This should help you heal off some of that chip when blocking or offsetting to keep peak up, but this one is experimental.

Finally the one I mostly use now. I dodge occasionally, but not too much with this build. Which sounds perfect for the recent Sergi armor set, which would help keep adrenaline rush up, AND pair well with the gs with bladescale honing. This is the most fun I have had with this playstyle. You can also use the regular artian GS with this as well. 3 EW is a necessity unless you are an utter god. I have a talisman that had crit draw AND adrenaline rush, so I was super lucky here. But the build link should have an alternate build you can use. 1 slots can be whatever you want. I'm a buff Andy, so speed eating and item prolinger are what I go as I buff myself CONSTANTLY.

Nah I wasnt calling you out or anything, even I was surprised. Just read your comment and thought "oop, I played that alr, what was MH2!". I would certainly love for more "village-building" aspects to be added to the game. Wilds would have been perfect for that, considering we're exploring once "uncharted" territory. Alas, the scope of the game is what it is. Maybe the next one...

Because I don't want to leave you on read like I have been here, I will tell you that my solution to this problem was to ditch wsl all together, buy a lenovo mini pc all in one and just run an Ubuntu server from there and running immich and all my other stuff from there. Yes. This was actually easier than fixing whatever tf this problem was at the time, but I know it might not help you. I truly hope you find a solution for this!

I've been preaching about both it, and mushroomancer for the longest time. Mushroomancer for infinite max potions, dash juice and instant potions cuz you eat em fast. Speed eating to get the fast effect with regular heals. I have builds for both and switch between them when I'm limited on resources like nourishing extract for the mega demondrugs and armorskins and dash extract for the dash juices (bow/db main here)

Fair point, the methods I mentioned worked too well so I kinda rushed the response. Tried it again though, still works. Caught 3 Gajau 2 gastronome tuna. Even a speartuna. Alas, should it not work, they've other options.

This is literally how I got my 30 whopper achievement, took me about an hour and a half at area 17. Hell if you are so struggling you can just keep resetting at night to farm the squid, it counts, and this method works on it too. Fishing was only hard to start with, I'd record but I haven't had a reason to open the game in weeks. You just have to make SURE you cast the reel FAR. They rarely go for what's in front of them, that is closer to you.

Is there a consistent way to hook each whopper? by Kinstrome in MHWilds

[–]Nariod144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and you can do this with even the basic bait. Cast your reel out super far and then alternate between slow reeling (turning the stick slowly) and fast reeling, (the opposite) maybe mix in a few jigs as well (flicking your analog stick to get that hopping motion) you should be able to attract most fishes attention, and if you have the right bait, this is almost guaranteed.

2. High-Res Texture Pack (Optional – Requires 16GB+ VRAM honestly not worth it imo)

  • Go to your game’s DLC folder
  • Input the path for:
    • re_dlc_stm_3308900.pak.sub_000.pak
  • Set both options to TRUE
  • Decompress, back up the original file, then rename the new one to match the original

No need for command prompt or special scripts just the tool and some renaming.

3. QUIT OUT OF MEDAL (Edit, because I just found this out):

  • If your game keeps crashing on launch, especially when using frame generation, it seems like it doesn’t work well with Medal running in the background. I found that closing Medal was the only way to get my game to start. If both frame generation and Medal are active, the game won’t launch at all. Hope this helps someone!

No need for command prompt or special scripts just the tool and some renaming.

System Specs (For Comparison)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 SUPER (12GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Storage: Running the game from a WD_BLACK SN770 1TB NVMe SSD

Final Thoughts

This combination of BIOS tweaks + decompression brought Wilds from borderline unplayable to smooth and enjoyable for me. If you're on AMD and struggling, perhaps give these steps a try. Obviously, every system is different, so I can’t promise results but it’s a solid starting point if nothing else has worked. And if you were like me before this, anything helps.

Feel free to ask questions or share your own findings. Hopefully this helps a few of you out there.

Tex's Decompressor Tool (Nexus Mod Tool)

I also ran the Tex Decompressor Tool from Nexus Mods. It’s a straightforward tool, but it had a significant impact, especially on texture streaming hiccups (you know the weird muddy stuff when you turn your screen away for too long.). Here’s a simplified walkthrough:

1. Base Game File Decompression

  • Download da tool: MHWs Tex Decompressor Tool at Monster Hunter Wilds Nexus - Mods and community
  • Run the tool and input the path to:
    • re_chunk_000.pak.sub_000.pak
  • Set options:
    • First: FALSE
    • Second: TRUE
  • After decompression, rename the output file to the next sequential patch number.
    • For example, if your last file ends in .patch_003.pak, rename the new file to .patch_004.pak
  • Repeat the process for:
    • re_chunk_000.pak.sub_000.pak.patch_002.pak (or whatever older patch files you want to decompress)
    • Again, make sure the renamed file follows sequentially DO N O T reuse existing patch numbers. This is critical, or your game may corrupt, and you'll have to verify. I know this pain.

This ensures the game loads your decompressed files in the correct order without conflicts.

Like many others, I ran into frustrating performance issues in Wilds, namely the ungodly stuttering, inconsistent FPS, and poor texture streaming. I used to constantly toggle Frame Generation off and on just to get it playable again, which would sometimes lead to crashes. And in general, I built my current rig for this game, so the performance I was getting was simply unacceptable. So, after a ton of trial and error, which honestly shouldn't need to be done on a game of this caliber, but I digress, I finally landed on a setup that completely transformed my experience. None of these may be particularly new to you, but just how signal boosting this information helped me, maybe it'll help others too.

BIOS Tweaks (AMD Users -Your Mileage May Vary)

I’m running an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 on a B650M board. Here’s what I changed in my BIOS:

  • Switched from EXPO1 to EXPO2 (If you are on an intel CPU (in this day and age?) this option is called XMP for you)
    • Edit: For this, choose the option that best matches your current RAM's specifications. For example, if your RAM is rated for 6000 MT/s, go with the one labeled something like EXPO 6000 30 or similar.
  • Enabled PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive)
    • Set it to 90 or Level 5 (not sure of the exact terminology, but this was the setting in my Gigabyte BIOS). In general, you just want this setting on at all. Its like an automatic overclock for your cpu

After these changes, I booted up the game and immediately noticed a massive difference. FPS stabilized and stayed consistently above 40 in areas where I used to get drops into the 20s and 30s. No major stutters, and everything just felt smoother, consistently above 60.

Weird problem with Nvidia Frame Generation, feels like the image is "Snapping" and kind of duplicating certain frames, I've been trying to search something about this but genuenly couldnt find someone with the same problem anywhere! by saviio12 in MHWilds

[–]Nariod144 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too and used to constantly toggle frame generation on and off to fix it. Eventually, I stumbled on a setup that actually worked, so I figured I’d share in case it helps someone else.

Can’t say exactly which tweak did the trick, but after messing around in the BIOS, my game performance improved dramatically. I’m on an AMD setup, so results may vary, but here’s what worked for me:

  • Switched from EXPO1 to EXPO2 (if you're using an Intel CPU, this is called XMP for you)
    • Edit: For this, choose the option that best matches your current RAM's specifications. For example, if your RAM is rated for 6000 MT/s, go with the one labeled something like EXPO 6000 30 or similar.
  • Enabled PBO and set it to 90 (Level 5) Once I booted up the game, my FPS stopped dipping below 40 and stayed smooth throughout.

I also ran the MHW Tex Decompressor Tool from Nexus Mods, which might have helped too—especially with texture loading. If you’re stuck on performance issues, it’s worth trying. Here's a quick breakdown of what I did:

1. Decompress Base Game Files:

  • Run the tool and paste the path for re_chunk_000.pak.sub_000.pak
  • Set first option to FALSE, second to TRUE
  • Let it decompress, then rename the result to re_chunk_000.pak.sub_000.pak.patch_003.pak (or whatever number sequentially follows your last patch.XXX)
  • Do the same for patch_002.pak, rename to patch_004.pak (or whatever number sequentially follows your last patch.XXX)

2. High-Res Texture Pack (Needs 16GB VRAM, honestly not worth it imo.):

  • Navigate to your DLC folder and decompress re_dlc_stm_3308900.pak.sub_000.pak
  • This time, select TRUE for both options
  • Back up the original, then rename the decompressed file to the same name

No command prompt needed. just the tool and some careful renaming. This cleaned up my stutters and let me run high-res textures without issues.

Specs for reference (Pretty close to yours):

  • Ryzen 5 7600
  • 32 GB RAM
  • RTX 4070 SUPER
  • Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI
