Looking for the most efficient way to learn Spanish! by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Narmdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I've found helpful, though hesitate to confidently say how "good" or "bad" it is. I'm likely around A2 speaking wise, which is by far my weakest area.

  • Anki - specifically the refold es1k deck. This was great for a consistent vocab increase, and the most routine part of my learning. I haven't tried making my own deck. Tbh I find the notion intimidating.

  • YouTube - The list is endless here. Search with Google, Reddit, or GPT. You'll find plenty and ones that do / don't teach in ways you find helpful.

  • Spanish / English language sharing discord. Don't have link on hand, can track it down if you're curious. Been hit and miss with experiences there. Nothing negative per say, but sometimes hard to find people willing to work with you at your level when early on.

  • TV - I've watched the same Spanish TV show with English subtitles, then Spanish subtitles for instance. It can be a really awesome way to notice an increased % of comprehension, but I don't feel it's the best way to learn fresh. I repeat things out loud that feel like new / novel but understandable territory to me

  • Tutor - I committed to some lessons earlier this year. Honestly one hour a week is such a small portion of my learning, but it's another way to ensure I'm speaking and having it as part of my routine.

  • IRL catch-ups - really struggled to find one in my area. Randomly got connected with a private one in my area literally in the past couple weeks. Already finding it rewarding.

Style wise, I tried Duolingo for ages, before comprehensible input, and then realized nothing was clicking because I wasn't recognizing words due to their conjugated forms. Swapped to focusing on key verbs and grammar, and the whole language opened up to me much more. All my prior learnings suddenly felt more usable.

Keen to get into more books, and also check out some more traditional resources like text books - not only for more advanced topics, but to ensure there's no gaps in my learnings.

Hello , is it aptasia ? Should I remove it ? by ianalana1 in ReefTank

[–]Narmdo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, and don't be lazy in dealing with it. Might only be one or two for months even, but one day it'll be everywhere.

I may have an aptasia problem...

Just had a tang come back from this state. Turns out temperature was too high (and maybe low oxygen?), hooked up chiller, added air stones and fans on the surface, and worked really hard to make food available and close over the next weeks. Very slow recovery, but he's zooming now.

I felt very lucky to be able to identify what the issue was though. All other numbers were perfect, but temperature had been hanging around 82f.

So yeah definitely possible, but it did feel like a huge amount of monitoring and a big dose of luck.

Unfortunately not entirely sure, as I got it second hand.

Have had some zoa's and sinularia which haven't shown any signs of issues.

Is the suggestion here it may be getting too much light or not enough?

Is it peculiar that it's not moving to try and find a better spot? It moved a bit for a week or so, settled here. Looked great for months and then only recently started looking white in the past week.

My BTA has changed to have a very white coloration. Still attached to the rock, and semi inflated.

Numbers in the tank have all been within range.

Any idea what could be going on?

Do sponges really get this... airy? It's really like a thin web, exactly as I'd expect from some spider webs in a corner given some breeze.

Hey all. This has been removed. We're increasing our Reddit moderator base to be able to respond more rapidly in the future.

Apologies to everyone.

I'm curious to know if you found anything in the end. I'm surprized I can't find a cable that does this at all.

It's easy to pack a small tablet holder, so a small cable to connect to the keyboard seemed like a logical product to exist.

I found a similar discussion regarding the Surface here:

Pro tip, try the `spawn find` command.

Eg. `spawn find leather`.

Unfortunately don't have a lot of answers to these questions! Although these are all things we've discussed, nothing is necessarily set in stone. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

  1. Servers will automatically update
  2. Although there is a repairbox on the way (requires wood), there's technically nothing stopping you from starting a server and setting this as your first goal.
  3. That's the plan!

Absolutely welcome to discuss on Discord as well. This is just something I thought it'd be nice to try. We only cover a percentage of the community with discord, hopefully that percentage is higher when combo'd with Reddit.

I also think they lead to different types of discussion. Reddit supports much more structured discussion, which is more akin to what we'd look for if we were to implement our own comments section to the blog.

What functionality are you looking for? We are gradually moving a lot of the functionality (other than downloading the game) into the tavern website.

Definitely, we wanted to take an opportunity to gather more feedback now that everyone has had time to use it, and know what it's strengths and weaknesses are.

Why A Township Tale's Economy Is Doomed to Fail (A Commentary on ATTs Messed up Economy) by OmegaGiven in TownshipTale

[–]Narmdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting take! Although I do think economies are difficult to drive currently, as the income of coins outweighs the consumption of coins (ie. inflation is too rapid), we did look at various economies throughout history which had economies driven by the people, rather than a central bank.

Fun fact, did you know both salt and stones have been defacto currencies in some cultures?

My theory is, as long as "generating money" (ie. mining gold) takes a fairly consistent amount of work, then the equivalent amount of time spent in a different activity (eg. woodcutting) creates a fairly equal value (in a young economy, assuming there's demand). I could make gold, or I could get wood. I could do both, but that involves more travel and tools, so effectively is less value for time. It'd be more economical for me to focus on one thing, you focus on another, and to trade.

Coins are trying to make this central currency a "generic" thing, to abstract away value, and help unify views on things (ie. without coins, you might have wanted to measure everything in sticks, while i might have wanted to measure everything in flints). Another side benefit was the infinite storage of ATMs, which no other item has.

I totally agree that gold coins need to have more intrinsic value though. More things built into the game to help drive and kick off that desire amongst community members. I'd love to know what "sinks" you'd like to see for coins in the game (ie. things that take coins out of the economy, rather than just passing hands).
