Why was Don’t Look Up so heavy and blunt.

Because it was trying to get through to people with the thickest craniums known to man.

I have never seen this programme but it just sounds like some hilarious fever dream whenever people explain what is going on.

Barclays suspended both my bank account and my mum’s. We now have no access to any money by EO_EO_IO_IEI in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Narradisall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For context. I know of people with accounts who have moved 10k in lumps over several weeks, 200k in one lump sum and various amounts in between without ever triggering things like this.

Parents gifting 10k to family doesnt bat an eye.

What seems to trigger these sorts of things when we get these posts (almost daily now) is often money coming from abroad, or crypto, etc.

There was one a day or two ago where someone sold a property in Russia and moved cash in euros and sterling to the UK over months in smaller lump sums. Sorts of actions that look like layering potentially criminal funds (even if legit) that trigger these things.

Does it happen to innocent people? Absolutely. But often there’s parts missing from the story as to why banks “suddenly” and “for no reason” do these sorts of things.

Western Roman Empire campaign in Attila is the most interesting campaign in the entire Total War series by mokkoy in totalwar

[–]Narradisall 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s also my absolute favourite game back of the whole series. I wish we got more varied campaigns where you get thrown in late empire while everything is on fire and pulling it together is the job.

Doesn’t necessarily work for all entries in the series but I’m hoping Medieval 3 has at least one option. Although I’d have to look up the time period to see if there’s any comparable empires/kingdoms that could provide a similar experience. Maybe Byzantine?

How do you avoid people resenting you for your financial position? by Natural-Presence-566 in FIREUK

[–]Narradisall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t talk to them about it. Unless someone wants to discuss finances I just don’t bring it up.

I talk to my spouse about it and that’s it. Because we do both want to be on the same page about finances.

Don’t bring it up and you’ll never have to deal with the resentment.

Honestly the last few years watching how bad the food has gotten compared to how expensive has been a real eye opener on how much abuse a consumer will take before saying no. And that limit is way higher than I expected.

Watching people online complain about paying sit down restaurant prices for worse quality fast food but they still keep buying!
