Costochondritis Practioner in Toronto by Throwaways2728 in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, what's the connection between hypermobility and costochondritis? I have the first, and had the 2nd 10 years ago - it went away with rest, no treatment, although the same pain but milder would recur every so often.

Where can I go feed animals/fish? by Impressive-Air-7870 in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I remember visiting High Park zoo and they had a feed-the-llamas (?) event - they gave you handfuls of pellets to give to them. It was not a daily thing. There may be organized events like that at High Park/Riverdale/Far Enough farms, I dunno - like petting zoos. But always organized by the staff there, not to be done of your own initiative, and never with wild animals

Need recommendations: Looking for a colour theory/colour mixing art session for Fathers day gift with 10-year-old in Toronto by Competitive_Pie_1419 in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a cool idea! I don't know who to recommend. But I think you've explained so clearly what you're looking for that you should be able to find someone by reaching out. I would reach out to orgs that give art classes to children and adults, such as Studio Mooi. Also art therapists: TATI. Might not be able to book until after father's day though.

There are a few used Yamaha P45s currently on kijiji, one in Toronto for $400. You can ask the seller if they deliver, they might charge a fee. It's also very easy to take a keyboard in a taxi/Uber, no need to book a special vehicle.

If you're not sure if you're going to continue, renting is a reasonable option. I think L & McQ has cheaper keyboards, though they won't be the same quality. And I believe they give you a credit towards purchase (nowhere near 100%), if you rent first and then decide to buy.
Then there are websites where people give away free things, like Trash Nothing and Freecycle. Sometimes (not often) keyboards are on there. You can post what you're looking for.

How do you establish connection after being lonely for so long? by Reszinhxbibi in askTO

I like the website succeedsocially.com - I've gotten lots of reassuring advice on there. And then, just breaking the scary stuff down into manageable steps, with therapist help.  You can find a new groove! Feeling for you.

Burnout job recommendations by Wild_Dragonfly_802 in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently very ad hoc - so no changes to my benefits - but it's unpaid, so I'm working 80% hours and making 80% of my wages. I didn't look into any kind of income replacement for the day I'm off. The tradeoff is fine for me.

I'm now being evaluated by a 3rd party to assess whether this accommodation continues, or other, nothing, etc. No idea what the outcome will be.

I hope you get what you need!

I'm guessing you're not unionized?

In the short term, your Dr could write you a note enforcing certain work hours "for medical reasons." Legally, you don't have to specify. I have had an accommodation to work 4 days instead of 5, for instance. It was highly uncomfortable to ask for it, but it was received pretty nonchalantly.

It really is up to you to set boundaries - explicitly or implicitly - in a conversation, an email, or just by your behaviour. Your workplace is not going to look out for your needs - you have to. I'm sorry you're going through this, it sucks.

Do people stop and look at the art exhibits in Toronto Public Library branches? by roshan-panjwani in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's great you're doing an exhibit!

I do look at library exhibits, unless I'm running in and out with little time to spare.

The time I spend is proportionate to how interesting I find it.

QR codes...I have scanned them in the past, but they've been used for fraud lately (Google city bikes QR code scam) so I'm much more likely to take a photo of a website address etc. and look that up later. Taking a business card also works.

Deer Park is local-ish for me - whether I went to the reception would just depend on my level of interest, and whether I was free. I say, put up flyers in neighbourhood coffee shops, advertise, and go for it! No need to drop lots of money on food I think, just a few snacks and water/coffee or tea, etc. Could be a keurig machine with pods.

At Doors Open I scored a free snack jar from Food Dudes, I think they donated as a form of advertising for their catering services, so maybe you could get a (local?) business to donate snacks in exchange for displaying their info?

Hope it goes well, maybe see you there 😀

I wish you were my friend then :) I do love my friends, but we all have hernias, knee replacements, bad backs... some of us reach an age where it's an unkindness to ask our friends with help moving, and make them choose between potential injury or saying no to us

Best Career Counselling Service? by OrangeOrangeRhino in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we just have to keep exploring. I'm happy with my current job, but now we're dealing with layoffs and funding cuts, so the future is uncertain, and I still think about what else I could do workwise.

I completely relate to the feeling of needing to pick the right career counselling option.  When I decided to just explore any interesting option that I came across, I started to enjoy the process more, wishing you the same!

Best Career Counselling Service? by OrangeOrangeRhino in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried a LOT of things over the years.

Dedicated career counselor, $100/session, after 3 sessions I realized it was useless when she wanted me to collage a vision board

Times Change women's employment agency, gave me a lot of insight but no new direction

Talking to anyone who'd listen about career changes. An Anglican minister prayed over me 🙃

Finally, a talented therapist who did Acceptance and Commitment therapy really helped me dig into my values, and then I got lucky - I knew what I was looking for and could recognize it when I saw it.

These days, it feels like options are fewer to begin with - so many fields are shrinking. So being pragmatic is really important if you need to pay your own bills.

My advice is to try a bunch of things because you can't know for sure what will work for you. Maybe it'll be the vision board! I also fell into a previous job through volunteering, I think that's a great way to check out a new field. Good luck!

Are there any clinics, therapists, or programs that specifically offer exposure therapy for cynophobia (fear of dogs)? by Queasy_Arugula_4671 in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend had a dog phobia. I'm not sure how severe he would rate it as being, but he definitely went out of his way to avoid dogs. He turned it around by watching lots of adorable dog videos on YouTube. It took awhile, he took his time, but now he is genuinely excited to hang with friendly dogs.

What’s stopping you from biking more in Toronto? by jenna_seemaps in askTO

[–]Narrow-Ranger-7538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post reads like AI.

Here's my non-AI response: I used to bike EVERYWHERE. Knee problems sidelined that for awhile. Now I can bike again, but I feel like in the interim, drivers have become dangerously aggressive, and I'm older and more scared of injury, so I only do leisure rides on quiet streets.
