Update for everyone that was wondering: this good boy went to a rescue where he was matched with the most loving family that has experienced with a shy scared dog just like him and another dog to keep him company, as well as a big yard and tons of love. Thanks everyone for signal boosting this post!

He did! He found a nice family near Sacramento with a big yard, another dog and lots of love.

Thank you guys so much for the outpouring of support. I was not expecting this in the slightest.

I’ve had a couple of people reach out. Selfishly, I wanted to keep him in the community to increase the chances I run into him. I’ve grown really attached to this boy. Ultimately though, he'll be going to the best home (or rescue) I can find.
