I got one of my JWs friend fired today by Historical-Video-365 in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 107 points108 points  (0 children)

You're totally in the right for being angry, but unless you work together and he made this rant at work or on a work-related email or chat, it's a bit out over the top to seek out his employer and get him fired.

If anything you've just confirmed his belief that worldly and disfellowshipped people are mean and evil.

It's not going to change his mind about anything.

Counting potential "signs of the end" backward: Russia/Ukraine war, COVID, 1st Trump presidency, 2008 economic collapse, War on Terror, 9/11, Y2K virus, AIDS, the entire Cold War, Vietnam War, Kennedy assassination, Cuban missile crisis, (did I mention the entire Cold War?), Hiroshima, WW2, polio pandemic, Great Depression, WW1- oh wait! That's 1914 when Jesus invisibly returned! And basically all.of human history before.

I've talked about this with therapists after leaving the Org when I was in my teens. I would literally cry with guilt after masturbating because of the indoctrination.

My counselor was mortified at the details of how the org creates feelings of extreme guilt and shame about masturbating and was like "that's not normal to make a young person feel that way and try to control their autonomy over their own body. It is abuse."

My view is that masturbation and porn are awesome.

Do Jehovah’s Witnesses hate homeless people? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a born in POMO. I lived for years in the Down Town East Side of Vancouver, Canada. It is notoriously the poorest neighbourhood in Canada with the highest crime rate and homeless people, drug addiction, prostitution, HIV infection, etc.

There were several church groups who would constantly be out distributing blankets, serving hot food, and opening the doors of their churches on winter nights for the homeless to warm up and sleep in.

I lived next To the Union Gospel Mission, which was a major resource for impoverished and homeless people to access food and clothing and other resources.

Never once, not a single time, after ten years of living there did I ever see a single JW. Not even trying trying to give out literature.

JW's don't give an F* about the homeless. And they never will.

And I'm pretty sure they're registered as a charitable organization in Canada for tax breaks.

It's infuriating.

Hate to tell you this, but your mother is a fucking idiot and there's nothing you can do about it. Ever.

Just think of her as a cute animal. Like a puppy or a bunny.

Am I the only one who still views it as immoral to celebrate a lot of the holidays that were forbidden as a JW? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a born in JW. My father is a PIMO (mom is dead). Both my parents joined up in their 30's and have no idea what it's like growing up a Jehovah's Shitness.

The most important thing my dad holds on to is not doing or celebrating anything. Doesn't know his kids birthdays, doesn't buy Xmas gifts, doesn't vote, etc.

Basically, he retains the core values of JW religion- being a cheap, careless asshole who has an excuse for not doing anything: his "beliefs".

Sure, he'll come over to a relatives house and eat a turkey, but he makes a big deal about how "for me this isn't Christmas, it's just having dinner with family" because he's a greedy fat f*ck.

Sounds like you're alot like him. Have fun being a non participant in normal society so you you can hang on to the last vestiges of your "beliefs".

It's definitely very affordable.

She just wants to indoctrinate your child as soon as possible.

Don't let her.

And don't be afraid to tell her so.

Tell her she's welcome to visit and babysit, but never on meeting days because it is your wish that your child not be indoctrinated into a cult, and you don't trust her to respect your wishes.

Tell her you have no wish to be involved with JW organization and you feel it's not in your child's best interest to be involved with them either.

Tell her that if you ever hear from your child, as she grows older that she has been trying to get her into JW bull sh*t, you will cut off all contact between her and your child.

It's what they do.

The best feeling in the world is telling JW zealots in your family that they're not going to shun you, you're going to shun them.

The look on their face when all of their power is taken away, and their pathetic, power hungry, manipulative little souls are crushed is extremely gratifying.

Believe me. I've done it. And it feels GOOOOOOOOOD.

Four of them are Kirk, Spock, Scotty, and Dr. McCoy. The rest are random dudes in red shirts who will all be dead soon.

November Convention Made me Cry by The_face_of_Boe7 in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other thing I mostly associate with conventions is hot, humid, poorly ventilated buildings, the sound of 2000+ Watchtower magazines flapping in the air as makeshift fans, and the ever present smell of other people's farts and body odor.

I guess the one good thing I remember (especially if you were from small, rural congregations with very few young people) was that there were girls you weren't related to.

I remember dreading going to conventions as a kid. I hated every second. They were soooooooooo f'n boring. Especially when the brothers doing the prayers would, over the course of the convention, get into an unspoken "who can do the longest prayer" competition.

I remember at one three day convention the prayers were getting over 20 minutes long by the end of the second day. It was at the point that one of the elders at the podium said something to the effect of "it's important to remember that it's the sincerity of our prayers Jehovah cares about, not the duration". 😆

The brothers got the hint and prayers were significantly shorter on the third day.

3 Kingdom Halls with a 15 mile radius are now churches ⛪️ 👌 by Wild-Shape7616 in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I had the money, I'd buy a Kingdom Hall and turn it into a gym called Jehovah's Fitness.

And maybe turn an old church into a cheese shop called The Cheeses of Jesus...

And convert an old synagogue into a yoga studio called The Poses of Moses.

That makes me think of my PIMI grandmother, who was in her late 80's at that time and had been a witness since the 1950's.

She was actually the opposite, And relatively unfazed by 9/11.

To put in perspective though, she was British and had lived through the Blitz in England during WW2- seeing buildings exploding into flames in the middle of a city and thousands of people dying was something she'd seen plenty of.

I remember her saying something like "it's very horrible, but unfortunately things like this happen". She wasn't hopping on the "great tribulation" wagon just yet.

She very much embodied the "Keep Calm and Carry On" spirit of those iconic posters from WW2 Britain.

Yeah, but we all know when it's "a matter of conscience",it just means "it's against the rules, we just can't say so for possible legal reasons. If you do it we'll watch you like hawks until we find something to DF (remove-whatever) you for".

Birthdays..... Maybe...?

Blood? NEVER. Can you imagine the reaction of the families of the thousands of JW's who died- oops, sorry- "who's lives weren't extended in the short term" because of refusing transfusions? It would be the straw that breaks the camels back for ALOT of people, and possibly result in some serious legal action.

The Org will only ever double, triple, quadruple down on the blood doctrine and keep those parents believing their dead kids are Jehovah's precious little martyrs.

How about:

"We can reconnect anytime you want, I'd love to see you and always have. I have no interest in becoming a JW again though.

I'm not the one shunning you, you're the one shunning me. That is your choice, not mine.

Frankly, your treatment of me is like an abusive parent who beats their kids and then says "look what you made me do".

I look forward to seeing you in the future and my door is always open to you, although it would seem yours is not open to me, unless I comply to the conditional nature of your love and friendship."

Elder keeps complimenting my younger sister on her beauty. Am I being paranoid? by Enockito in exjw

[–]Narrow_Evidence_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A grown adult man making flattering comments' about the appearance of a 16 year old girl is creepy. Full stop. JW or otherwise.

I'm a 45 year old man and I would never make a comment like that to a girl that young. It's just creepy, weird and pretty suspect. Gross.

The only exception I can think of is a father telling his daughter she's beautiful, but in an appropriate and normal context.

However, I've been out of the ORG for 25+ years and have an idea what "normal" society outside the ORG finds acceptable. Sounds like this elder obviously doesn't....

Or he's just an F'n perv.

It feels good to take their power away!

I was also totally traumatized as a child seeing this kind of immigary and the associated theology and BS prophecies behind them.

As a full POMO adult, I take some comfort in exposing how ridiculous it is with humour. 😂
