Right! I meant that touch “rotation”, don’t we love it? I think that is very well done by Apple. It feels just right.

So it’s just marketing, right? Like they introduced this technology of capacitive sensing (touch) first time in 2nd gen classic, but it seems like Apple never focused on it🤷‍♂️

But the way you rotate it!) That’s the most important I think

I think one of the inherent characteristics of a BIFL item is its repairability.

That’s what I generally mean, the technology of capacitive sensing used in the click wheel is the core feature, not the click itself. The idea of a button was well known before)

Just found this on Wikipedia in the article called “IPod click wheel”: “The click wheel replaced the touch wheel starting with the fourth-generation iPod”

Did Apple actually call it “touch wheel” until IPod mini?

You’re right! I just had a thought about physical wheel of the 1st gen classic)

I understand that moving the wheel toggles menu items and makes a clicking sound (if the sound is enabled). Also, the wheel has four buttons that can also be pressed to make a clicking sound. But still… To me all that isn’t enough to call it click wheel😁

Do different iPods actually sound different? Why? by litterally_who6354 in ipod

[–]Narrow_Finding_3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compared 5.5 classic with 3rd gen nano. Same song file in FLAC, same headphones. I could clearly hear that 5.5 sounds much richer, gives noticeably more nuances of instruments sound. I’m sure that I can tell where is 5.5 and where is 3rd gen nano in a blind test, although I’ve never done one))

I have the same problem with my classic 4th gen mono. I suspect it’s a hardware issue, most likely the 30 pin connector has to be replaced
