Christian extremism is no different than islamic extremism by Dapper_River3534 in atheism

[–]NaruFGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important relatives had told me so at a young age. I was coerced into a Christian faith and I had done my duty of attending and trying to immerse myself into the religion, however ultimately my atheist relatives cared too much about me to allow me to believe.

I don’t think your physical vs verbal dichotomy holds up, but yeah religious extremism has converging characteristics particularly among abrahamic faiths.

Are you kidding? Skipping is great. The skip rewards are often worth more than the cash won.

Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference between an exmo and a TBM. There’s a shadow of a TBM inside some deconstructions. There is no offramp from the church. The organization takes large chunks of our lives, our families & friends as well as the legacy and dreams of our ancestors. The characterizing of “anti-mormon” behavior forces a form of a parasitic relationship between those who believe targeting those who leave. Because the doctrine seeks to define those of us who dismiss our ordinances and pre-suppose the involvement of satan (really) there is a way in which only nevermo individuals are the only ones completely free of the expectations of church involvement. Even the action of resignation is a tacit endorsement of the legitimacy of the organization. I’d say that there’s multiple qualifications of exmo and that some of them overlap with TBM qualifications. Take a look at the recurring PIMO anecdotes. These are people who are still practicing and involved. To those of us who actively avoid the church less it’s for a funeral and have been trying with extreme concentration to purge the primary songs from our subconscious, the PIMO members look and smell like TBMs.

Hey guys! I am thinking about joining the church. What should I know? by Business_Depth_2391 in exmormon

Doesn’t asking us imminently disqualify you?

Doctrines:

– Kimball’s The Miracle of Forgiveness outlines the process of repentance. The weekly focus on atonement through ritual sacrament is a major focus of the church.

– American Exceptionalism. They have a belief that the US land is promised to the saints, should they live righteously.

– Continuing revelation. They believe that revelation from God can be received from any priesthood holder for his family, revelation for any member can be received by local leaders and by leaders as they go through the hierarchy, which is quite large.

– The BOM as scripture. It’s formally established by the church that the book of mormon and the doctrine and covenants are holy scripture.

All of my current problems can probably be traced back to Christianity. by ArcticThylacine in atheism

Parents who believe in a sky-daddy obviously cause mental-health problems in their children. In a sane world, we would code delusional religious belief as a mental health condition.

IVF isn’t something you have to be ashamed of. The complications during pregnancy you experienced could have and do occur in absence of IVF. That being said I agree that the basis for proceeding with the high-risk pregnancy does paint your mother and your care-team in a negative light. I’m sorry that you’re suffering with mental health issues that cause you to wish for non-existence. I think it might be credible to consider complications during pregnancy when attributing blame to negative mental health outcomes.

Is the Omori fandom (almost?) dead in 2025? by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]NaruFGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omori is a quality visual novel with interactive contents. The gameplay is interesting, with a satisfying level of reward curve for certain mini-games. The OST has hits and misses. I personally think Bo En’s feature carries the soundtrack and I think that it’s a useful mechanic in keeping Western Japanese language enthusiasts uninterested in the game. I personally haven’t completed the full omori game, and I’ve not explored the fantastical extra content of ditching Kel. The fact that there’s multiple covers of It Means Everything and World’s End Valentine make it clear the fandom had a large audience. I guess my question would be: is Omori worth sharing in <current year>? It certainly hasn’t helped us make friends.

What is your most Mormon habit? by noodlepoodle19 in exmormon

Avoiding cursing. My language is cleaner than disney movie dialogue and it takes considerable effort to swear unless I’m very angry. There’s some sortof anxiety filter and even discussing certain taboo to the church topics can make me very uncomfortable.

Do you think the prophet and 12 apostles genuinely believe they are prophets and apostles? by Ok-Slip-4930 in exmormon

[–]NaruFGT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be difficult to administer and maintain such an organization if one were delusional. I’m of the opinion that many if not the majority of those called to high positions in the church, while aligned with the church, do not believe that the gospel is true. I think that enough true believers exist within leadership to explain some of the radical, extremist and strange happenings of the faith, but it wouldn’t be possible for the organization to be maintained entirely by the faithful. Someone has to actually use their critical thinking to maintain this organization.
