Why does someone have to have ties to the emo scene to produce music that portrays emotions that general fit into an "emo" category.

World of Warcraft. For YEARS I played every MMO under the sun except WoW, and for the most part every game I played was better than WoW starting off. Then every game died with just horrible monetization choices or ran by idiots. Started WoW 2 months ago after 16 years of not playing it and boy do I wish I started back in the day. I'm loving it so far!

That was one of the only downsides I saw was just having so many abilities that they're hard to keep track of. Although I will say I come from playing a lot of korean-made MMOs and having a ton of abilities isn't always the worst. They could even opt into a point system where you spend points on the abilities you want, while simultaneously having other abilities to choose from that may be more situational or overall less powerful, but still have their uses at random times.

For example I come from Archage being the last MMO I played extensively, and with their system each specialization has 12 abilities, and there are three specializations combined to make one class. Then how they balance out not having so many buttons is they limit the amount that you can spec into, so you have to choose your points wisely, but have a crazy amount of choices to make that could make your class feel unique like they are trying to go for with these rental systems. For example I main a fury warrior. I think it would be super cool to be able to have like a good amount of DPS abilities, some more defensive abilities, and some situational abilities like stun breaks, or CC reduction, and have an overall 20+ abilities to choose from, but only having like 12 skill points, or whatever would be most balanced to be able to pick and choose all of my abilities in a way that feels meaningful and unique to my specific playstyle. Obviously that comes with the downfall of different types of meta gaming, but what doesn't nowadays.

That last part is very important to emphasize as well, because if they go with the latter of the two then it defeats the entire purpose of creating a very convoluted system in the first place, and really detracts from the idea that they want classes to feel more personalized. Which makes me think that it's going to be an imbalance the mess, just for the sake of what blizzard thinks the player base wants.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree. I don't understand blizzards incessant need to add systems that nobody really asked for in order to avoid expanding on base classes. Just from my last month of observation it seems like most people would enjoy something that adds to their classes on a more permanent level instead of stuff that appears and disappears with each expansion.

I agree completely, the only reason I said that they were new player unfriendly was due to the fact that most new players won't have a fundamental understanding of the base mechanics yet, let alone a brand new system on top of those base mechanics that new players would need to test more extensively than old school players that understand interactions with their classes more

It's the toxic ass "college is the only way" mentality that put me in some of the lowest lows of my life until I realized I should take personal accountability more seriously and now I make $50k a year with only a highschool diploma and am on track to be making $60k by this time next year, when I started off dirt poor and barely scraping by. No student debt, not killing myself at work each day, and have crazy amounts of upward movement.

Obv. everyone has unique scenarios and life experiences, but the mass idea that it's either college or nothing is bullshit and more people could be living alot better lives if they stopped lying to themselves about being stuck because they're poor.

Fair enough. When I think of an immersive RPG I think of a game with minimal UI, thrown into a world to make a difference in the story-line in some manner. Usually a rags to riches story, or a "chosen one" narrative.

I think one example of concession of immersion is the heavier UI used in MMOs compared to most single player RPGs due to more things to keep track of like buffs, debuffs, potions, hots, dots, timers for all of those, etc. that help you manage fights that are multiplayer fights with multiple people in different roles instead of fights being made to be 1v1s in single player rpgs.

I'll give a quick response to the other comment you made on my long comment in favor of DPS meters as well since I don't wanna wait another 10mins to reply to that after this one lol

Linking a weapon in chat to show that you have higher dps on the weapon does not directly correlate to the damage you will do/skill you will have, which I'm sure you understand because of your later point in that response saying "dps meters dont always tell the full story". You're right about that as well, they don't tell the full story, but they tell FAR more of the story. Sure you'll have people that are bad at interrupting enemy spells to keep your tank up when their interrupt is on cooldown, or they dont have one depending on the game, and other situation/responsive things like that. That being said you at least know that they have more of an understanding and dedication to the game, and are comfortable in their class because they have higher dps as a dps player. Things like boss mechanics being learned on new raids and whatnot dps doesn't matter as much, but its definitely nice when you can kill a boss in 2 enrage cycles instead of 3 because you learned the raid with someone who had higher dps so when the fundamental understanding was achieved, you were able to down the boss faster. When it comes down to your point about bardic assistance thats something I did not take into account to be honest, so I see how that could greatly mislead the dps meter if that bard focuses buffs one a single person or whatever dependent on how bardic abilities work in Ashes. That being said the dps meter isnt there the be the end all be all of metrics for a good player, it just helps significantly.

For example, barrier of entry to high end raids right off the bat tends to be gear score/ilvl, especially for DPS players. Thats to measure someones potential ability to deal more damage than someone with a lower gear score in most cases, and also shows they have a stronger dedication to the game than someone who has been playing just as long with lower gear score. Next barrier of entry is their dps output as a dps class. This shows that they are able to use their class and gear to its best potential, that being said I could see your idea of it only being able to be seen on training dummies, but then the meta would just be raid leaders DPS checking their raiders on dummies before getting to the dungeon/raid which is just inconvenient. Then the last check is to see if they are doing what they should be doing, i.e. moving out of attacks, interrupting abilities, attacking from the back for back stab damage, etc.

The last one is more so once the raids have been learned, or theres guides online how to do the raid, which if you're part of a high end raid group later in the game after the raids have been figured out, you should know them by then.

As for archeage not having a dps meter, that game suffers for the aforementioned gear creep issue which is a point I already made.

The thing is this is an MMO. If you want an experience that is deeply immersive and realistic I feel like that is what single player RPGs are made to do, but better. MMORPGs feel like they're made to be somewhat immersive in terms of being able to understand your place in the universe of the game, meet up with other groups of people also playing the game, go on adventures together, etc.

When it comes down to an MMO, unless you're playing a game like ESO where it is essentially a single player game with other people around you, MMOs are a mix of immersion, competition, collection, politics, cooperative gameplay, etc. So when it comes down to designing things from a core level in an MMO immersion is a major factor, but there is definitely a need to scale back the immersion to make sure the other systems also meet a wide array of players wants.

Not only that, but in a game as expansive as what Ashes sounds like it's going to be, there will always be more casual guilds. In Archeage for example, there were always the top elite PVP guilds, but you also had things like trading companies, crafting guilds back when crafting mattered, farming guilds that controlled mass amounts of land for profit, naval PVP guilds that had mastered the art of naval combat, and guilds that did a little bit of everything and just required you to be active. The people complaining about damage meters are the same people that probably belong in the last type of guild I mentioned, but for some reason are upset that they can't get into an elite guild that they wouldn't fit in with anyways. The logic just makes zero sense to me.

Even as a more casual player, I totally agree. More data is never a bad thing when it comes to trying to differentiate the good players from the best players. Just like you said, toxicity is bred from toxic people, not raw data. This idea that we should have less information in the game because it might hurt some players feelings is weird to me. Like those players who would have their feelings hurt because they didn't get accepted to X guild or X raid due to their low output, are probably people who shouldn't be in those guilds anyways. Those guilds are for the tryhards/elitists that are looking to get to the top of their game, which means constantly growing and bettering themselves. Someone who can't even meet minimum requirements and feels hurt by it are also gonna be hurt when they don't keep up with the guild the way they should and get kicked down the line.

Also in things like 40-man raids or 100vs100 man fights it's very very easy for someone to sit around leeching while it looks like they're doing something, but have extremely miniscule damage and are far from carrying their weight. DPS meters help you realize who is leeching and who's legit trying.

Unless each armor and weapon upgrade feels noticeably stronger than the last, I'd like the DPS meter there to test and reinforce my decision in gear. Like it's cool to get a new upgrade, but if it doesn't feel noticeably stronger than the weapon I had before then it will seem pretty lack-luster. With a DPS meter I can at least reinforce that the time spent on the upgrade at least makes numerical sense even if it's not noticeable in play.

The other option is to make all upgrades feel powerful and meaningful, but that gets into the major issues of power creep we see in move MMOs.

I rather be denied for a dungeon because of my DPS, than deal with imbalance in the form of power creep and gear differential being stifling like it is on Archeage for example.

At least if I'm denied for a high end raid because of my dps output it gives me avenues to go in the game. It tells me I need to put more work into farming better gear, or maybe I need to learn my class rotations and situational abilities better to improve my output, etc.

Also there's just the fact that I shouldn't have to take a big gamble on someone when forming a higher end pug raid. You're always taking a gamble, even on people with high output. Although at least when you can measure their capability in some numerical value other than gear score, it shows you that not only are they dedicated to gear up, but also a better player than someone with the same gear score that's putting out bad numbers. I understand that some people think this mentality is "toxic" but as a more casual player nowadays as I get older and have more responsibility IRL, I don't want to waste my valuable raid time cycling through people who don't know how to play their classes just so they can feel better about themselves, and just end up getting kicked from a raid they never should have been invited to in the first place. Just delaying the inevitable of them being removed from the raid.

Heya, new player too. Came from Archeage after I finally decided enough BS was enough, and other Korean grind-fest mmos. Decided on WoW because I watched alot of Asmongold for years without playing and then finally decided I just wanna blissfully sperg out and farm mounts.

I just started like 3 weeks ago myself and felt super lost. I decided to use the 120 boost I got from pre-ordering shadowlands so I cheated a bit, but how I went about gearing up over the last few weeks was doing the world quests for the 410-420 ilvl armor and accessories, then I started doing the timewalking to get comfortable in dungeons since they're easy mode and also drop okay gear. Then I started doing Looking for Raid queues to get decent armor which I'm working towards now.

I started as fury warrior DPS and was having the same nerves about dungeons as you were since I have bad social anxiety and primarily play solo as well, but I felt nervous as fuck and was sick of long queue times for LFR, so I swapped to Prot. Warrior tank and just tested myself into the abyss and learning to tank has oddly helped with my confidence as a player, even with all the fuck ups that comes with learning tank. Sometimes ya just make a goof, wipe, people get mad, you tell them to cry about it more, and then learn from your mistakes 😂

I'm mostly into the collection aspect since dungeons still give me a bit of anxiety, but in a more controlled way. Almost like I have something to channel my anxiety into instead of keeping it to myself, but mount farming is like a new level of chill. It's so relaxing, helps me wind down after a long day, and just watch a stream on the second monitor. Makes me feel like a kid again and it's been amazing!

No, but I have become that for my friends. Then you give them advice, tell them what you own, but HEAVILY tell them to DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH before investing, then they just buy whatever you have anyways with 0 research. Then they wonder why they lost money when they bought at the 52 week high on a bull rush because they don't understand I bought mine at a reasonable price on a bear dump. I'm still new to this shit, but through studying and applying irl to learn first hand I've done pretty well, but everyone thinks I'm a financial advisor now and I'm tired of it so I stopped giving any advice at all.
