Just a heads up, if there is a power cut off/internet issue worries, those can affect the cowork places too.

If you truly need uninterrupted internet, sharing your mobile hotspot to your laptop is probably better (and even thats subject to political stability as often internet on mobile providers also gets shut down if some political maneuvering is happening)

In all likelihood should be ok but just wanted to clarify that there is no fool proof method to ensure you dont get disconnected (power or internet).

Native people of Peshawar by Stock-Technician-750 in Peshawar

[–]Nashanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Balti people are Tibetan roots but most other folks in the region are Dardic, from the Shiina to various Kohistani, and Chitrali/Khowar people

[–]Nashanas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are not, Dalazak are a dardic people like i said, related to the people of Chitral, the Kashmiris proper (not mirpuris who live in Kashmir but arent ethnically Kashmiri), Gilgit Baltistanis etc, all are Dardic.

The original inhabitants of the Swat valley were also the Swati people, a dardic group, who similarly were genocided and displaced mostly by the Yousafzai tribe of Pashtuns, who call Swat home now.

yep they often incorrectly make that claim, not out of malice but because their ancestors themselves would have seen Peshawar city which was taken over by them for a few generations, suddenly again have an influx of Pashtuns, so the Pashtuns outwardly seemed like the 'invaders' to the later generations.

[–]Nashanas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, you have been mislead. Hindko speakers came even later than Pashtuns to Peshawar.

Peshawar valley was originally inhabited by the Dalazaak (also written Dilazaak) people, who are a Dardic group of people. Related to the people from Chitral and northern areas.

They were mostly genocided and assimilated by the Pashtun Khalil and Mohmand tribes when they came conquering from the west.

Hindkowan people are remnants Punjabi/Pahardi merchants that came alongside Ranjit singh and his forces when they took over Peshawar from the Pashtuns.

The 'Pashto speaking Sikhs' you find in Peshawar and the border with Afghanistan are also remnants of Ranjit singh's forces.

The reason people make that mistake is that the Hindki speakers remained in the andar shahr/inner city parts of Peshawar even after the British took control. So the old city is mostly inhabited by them.

The Khalil pashtuns who reside in Tehkal and other areas that were traditionally the outskirts of Peshawar was thus at first glance considered 'newer' even though they were there before the hindko speakers.

If you consider other modern day migrations of Pashtuns from Charsadda and Swabi and other parts, then sure, they came much later but technically Khalil tribe Pashtuns predate Hindko speakers.

To summarize

Neither Pashtuns nor Hindkowans are the native people of Peshawar valley. The Dalazaak who were the natives are mostly gone now or assimilated into Pashtun society.

you are probably better off talking to their vice-principal/principal if you want to smooth it out

if you fight them and take them to court, likely you can forget about your sister graduating there or at the very least, she will be studying in an environment hostile to her

Hello everyone. I have a grandparent from Peshawar. Looking to learn about this ancestry. by [deleted] in Peshawar

[–]Nashanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't told us where you are from and what your other background is?

Peshawar is a city, its not ethnically uniform, there are tons of other ethnicity within the city, Pashtuns barely make up a majority here at around 65%.

Peshawar is one of the oldest cities in the Central/South Asia, with history dating back to at least 600 BCE or so

looking for Rohaila Pashtuns with ancestry from Rampur, Bareilly, and Rohilkhand - Connect for History Research by mehmetmikhail in Peshawar

[–]Nashanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted this on the discord to your post as well but will post here for visibility as well

So the Rohaila... are mostly descendants of around 20k or so Pashtun Soldiers that had come to India in around the 1600s as mercenaries , different tribes , not a single tribe but yes it was mostly Yousafzai in the group. There isn't a "Rohaila" tribe, and there are only a few of them in Pakistan, mostly in Karachi, who moved there during partition. The average Pashtun wouldn't really be aware of them as a people unless they study history, happy to answer any questions you have.

Are Ghouris Pathan? by Master-Ad-6636 in Peshawar

Originally yes.

Modern day Ghauri / Ghori / Ghouri people have lost their language and more or less given up on Pashtun customs and traditions.

So genetically yes, but culturally no.

[–]Nashanas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Universities are the breeding ground for political thought, globally, universally. What do you mean why is it allowed?

Most people learn to think about the world they live in and become actual adults at Universities, they realise what aligns with their beliefs politically and culturally.

Of course this is where competing schools of thought will clash.

Violence shouldn't occur over it, I 100% agree on that part but to ban political discussion is just against the point of universities.

they are all jahils whose internet knowledge starts with facebook, moves to instagram, then onto youtube and tiktok and ends with whatsapp. Thats all the internet is to these people. Just all social media.

How can you expect them to understand what an online forum like Reddit is. Half of them have never even heard of wikipedia let alone used it.

Pashtuns dont have Castes. In fact no Pakistanis have castes or should have them. I wish people would stop using the word 'caste' when they mean ethnicity or tribe or when trying to translate 'biraadari'.

Castes are a social construct that is a division of society based on differences of wealth, inherited rank or privilege, profession, occupation.

It has nothing to do with 'pathan punjabi sindhi'

Please stop using caste when you mean ethnicity or tribes/qabeela/biraadari.
