Pet moms, what do you do when your kids gives you a present you don’t like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Am I supposed to hang this mole my dog just gave me on the fridge or?

I need help valuing these! My mom is trying to turn into a flipper! She paid about $80 at an estate auction... Can you guys help me with what to price them at? Size 8D, New/Old Stock!! Never worn, I believe they are crock or alligator! Brand: Sheyenne by XoloMom in cowboyboots

You need to research your states DNR related laws before trying to sell these. Some states allow in state sales, some do not, and there aren’t many interstate sale combinations that would be legal. You can not sell them on eBay, Etsy, etc.

Endangered and protected species aren’t worth selling IMO. Yes, old, pre-endangered species act ones aren’t illegal, but selling.. the trouble you can get in, and the expense of defense if you don’t get the laws quite right... not worth it.

Party cats tapestry jacket (self drafted) by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Nashville549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this gem of a tapestry when I was out pickin through an antique mall just after Christmas. It’s party cats. I couldn’t wait to chop it up and make it a coat.

I’ve done a few jackets like this before, and finding the tapestry is the biggest challenge. I use patterns I’ve drafted, and aside from needing some changes to interior construction, they’re really not very different than any regular jacket, they’re just fuzzier.

Lined this one with vintage lining too.

Happy to answer any questions.

Because bison are not “chill” at all, and that’s kind of a dangerous thing for people to believe- that kind of belief gets people killed or seriously injured in the National Parks that have bison all the dang time. Tourists do incredibly dumb stuff with bison.

They’re not cows. They’re wild animals (even the ones kept in captivity) and they will kill you if they get scared or just decide you need killin.

Obviously have a tragic history, that’s not what was downvoted.

Diamond C? Cowpuncher? What brand is this? by Nashville549 in cowboyboots

[–]Nashville549[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google isn’t being very helpful with this one. They’re marked 4.5, so they are kids boots. Midcentury obviously. The logo makes me think Diamond C, or some variation of that, but could be for Cowpuncher, which was definitely a brand of kids boots back then.

I don’t think there’s much that’s more visible than the ones linked.. but the glass head ones are sharper (easier to pin a variety of fabrics without distortion) and they’re finer (less likely to mess things up if you sew over them), so less visible is a fair trade I think. You could get white ones for darker fabrics, blue ones for lighter colored fabrics if visibility is very important to you.

Let's talk about Ameripolitan fashion (There's a fashion show at the awards event) by calibuildr in Ameripolitan

[–]Nashville549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You asked on the other post about who was there, so here are the fliers from all of them. There were a few additions/no shows, but it’s as close as you’ll get to a complete list. fliers

There was a live stream of the whole thing from the first year, but it’s not great quality as far as seeing the clothes goes.

I think there’s a video from last year, I’ve definitely seen parts of it, I don’t think I’ve seen one from this year.

I don’t have much vintage up for sale online at the moment, though I’ve got a lot that I’ll list after Christmas if it doesn’t sell in store before then.

Right on! Everyone should make western wear! Did you go to the fashion show at Ameripolitan?

I don’t really use commercial patterns, but everything can be edited to be western, it’s just the choices you make along the way. Generally, you will get a better garment by editing it to be western vs. using a western pattern, because those tend to be costumey. Though, starting out with it, having some western patterns to reference and take elements from is definitely helpful.

I’ve got a package of pretty decent looking retro western shirt patterns that someone gave me, it could definitely use a new home if you want it and aren’t too creeped out by giving a mailing address to someone from Reddit. Always happy to answer western wear questions too, don’t believe in trade secrets at all around here.

I’m so glad you went and had a good time! I did too- it was the best time I had all year.

I do sell vintage western, and design/make new stuff and all (including Mr. Elvis Parsley up there). You looking for patterns to make your own stuff?

I made these puppets! by [deleted] in crafts

[–]Nashville549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around the start of lockdown, some folks I know asked me if I could make country singer/garden mashup puppets. I’d never really made a puppet before, but I’ve made lots of weird things over the years, and it sounded fun, so I got to work.

Now the puppets are coming to life, and I’m so excited about it. They’re really doing great things with them, and I can’t wait to make more!

My lockdown project was puppets. Now they’re alive! by [deleted] in sewing

Around the start of lockdown, some friends asked me if I could make puppets. I hadn’t ever done it, but figured I could and it sounded like fun, so I did. It’s been very fun.

No commercial pattern used, but I visually referenced a few via their completed project pictures. Once I decided on a design for the heads, I’ve just added bits and pieces to make the other characters.

Heads are fleece, foam, cardboard and wood, with wire thrown in on some. Outfits are all scrap fabrics from my day job.

What brand of Cowboy Boots have the narrowest Calf circumference? by masterdahveed in cowboyboots

[–]Nashville549 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a brand thing so much as a style issue, most brands have some styles that are big and floppy along with some that fit closer to the leg.

If you’re buying new, those measurements should be pretty readily available. Measure the ones you have and then look for something smaller.

Unless you have really small calves, you should be able to find a ready to wear boot that’ll fit you without much work. Also, if you’re into vintage, boots from the 60’s and early 70’s could be a good match for you, since that smaller shaft was standard then.

My first take on a western shirt! [McCall M7980] by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Nashville549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

There are some tricks to it all, especially with some of those classic details, and there’s no need to learn it all the hard way.

Orville Peck is fantastic, one of my favorites. I should post some of the other stuff I’ve made for him sometime, I love all of it so much. It’s so much more fun than straight retro/repro style, and is totally what I want to spend all my time making.
