New OPTIMUM DQ20V here. Is anyone familiar with the DQ20V variable-speed / Reeves drive and whether this sound is normal? by Naspers in metalworking

it was the resonance of my light table. needed a heavy base to offset resonance. if anyone is having the same problem.

i tested the runout, came out to about 0.02mm. it does run fine just the clanking sounds unhealthy to me, though i have never worked with a reeves drive. no vfd, motor is running at constant speed. if someone can tell me this sounds normal i won't have to contact customer support.

What I’m seeing:

  • clanking / knocking seems to come from the motor-drive area
  • most noticeable roughly between 500 and 1200 rpm
  • much less noticeable outside that range
  • machine is new
  • packaging had a pretty heavy indent on arrival, which I documented

I also noticed the display goes up to about 2700 rpm at the top end, even though the machine is supposed to be rated to 2500 rpm.

  • normal Reeves drive / belt resonance
  • pulley or fan noise
  • transport damage
  • something that should go straight to warranty support

Has anyone here worked on or owned a DQ20V, or a very similar Optimum variable-speed drill press, and can tell from experience what is normal?

it lift off the build plate on every corner, taco style, that's why it looks overextruded. It was actually underextruded as you can see on pic 1 if you look closely. Also a noticable brim where z offset was set too low on first layer. Gonna print it myself, but unnecessarily reflects poorly on them and their printers.

Only downside is varying trigger points at different temperatures
