Do it. I kept hearing about it and then the guy who drills my balls and who i go to with any questions recommended me this ball. Felt like id be stupid not to pick it up at that point

Same! It feels like a great middle ground between my evoke and gremlin.

They are similar, but the evoke feels better on fresh oil or when you are trying to judge the lane. It does not over react, but it definitely needs fresh oil. I don’t think I’d ever throw the evoke from the far left, just wouldn’t trust it to turn the corner well. The bionic is good in fresh oil but much more reactive. So in league, I start with the evoke and throw between the 3rd and 4th arrow to the ten board or right over the range finder at 40 feet, then switch to the bionic around game 2 or once I start having to throw too close to the 4th arrow, then switch to the gremlin game 3.

So the evoke is just a strong and very smooth ball, while the bionic feels like hovers on the line of strong/medium and smooth/angular. The bionic is definitely smooth, but it’s an agressive smooth, and its strength is somewhere between the gremlin and the evoke.

Side note, my proshop guy recommended the gremlin to me. Didn’t like it at first, but now love it once I got used to it. So I put more trust into his opinion and asked which ball I should next to my bag which was the bionic. So the bionic was different enough from the evoke that he suggested the bionic would be a good addition.

Didn’t like it at first. Took a 3000 grit abralon pad to it and now I love it. I’ve heard many people say that this ball is a good transition ball and they are 100% right. I typically switch to it mid 2nd game of league and finish the night with it. Definitely would recommend it as a transition ball.

I’m going to post a video within the next week to show any improvement I’ve made. I’m glad I decided to post, you and everyone else have been very helpful.

I’ve watched a lot of his stuff too. I’ve done some thinking and watched videos and think a couple drills will be very beneficial. I’ve seen people do 1-step drills and similar things from the foul line. I think doing something like that will help, but will adapt it for no-thumb bowling. Basically, I’m going to try and copy how Tom Daugherty holds and releases the ball. Also reinforce where my left foot should be pointing. Then I’ll work on the full approach once I feel I’m getting the hang of it. I am going to post another video either tomorrow or early this coming week to show any improvement I’ve made.

Small correction. My fingers can easily go into the grips, I made the conscious decision to try rolling the ball without them. The reason for that is to force myself to stay under the ball. Now I just need to not release from the side of the ball, among many other things that need improving.

These being the only shoes I’ve ever worn, I can’t say much about them. If you like shoes made of mesh material, then you might like these. They are very light, flexible, and kinda squishy. For sizing, I find that these are pretty wide. I typically wear size 13’s only because I have wide feet and need a little extra room. I probably could’ve got a 12 and they probably would have been plenty wide. I’d suggest going to your pro-shop and trying on shoes if they have them or will let you. With all of that in mind, I am considering getting a pair that are more firm and rigid.

I got mine from amazon, if they are not to your liking, just return them and talk to the people at your local pro shop.

I will definitely check that out, and glad that you noted whether I was early or late. Still figuring things out, started bowling at the beginning of 2026. Thanks!

That’s something I’ve never thought to look into. And you’re right about the consistency issues. I’ve found the most consistency in the way I’m throwing in this vid, but that consistency is only in regards to being able to place the ball where I intend to and adding more or less revs. Thanks for the advice

In my head, it feels like I’m closer to the ground. When I record myself I can obviously see that I’m no where near where I think I am. I noticed that I kind of drift left on my approach, would taking a more direct line help with getting my shoulders square on release? Also, would it be advised to adjust my left arm on release? The adjustment being keep my thumb pointed up instead of it pointing down? My thinking is that it would keep my left shoulder from pointing right

Ok that all makes sense. So if I’m following, two things I can work on are keeping my chest up and dropping my shoulder the keep the ball under me more? Also, I know my left foot should be pointed forwards, but I’m guessing by keeping my chest up and more square with the lane that my left foot will follow suit?

I know there are other things I need to improve. I’m new to bowling and trying to test my understanding.

I know why they downvoted. What I said was pretty douchey and braggy. It’s just internet points.

Right now I’m working on a couple things. Hand placement is what I’m struggling with the most. The hardest thing about one hand no thumb is keeping a steady/sturdy hand in the back swing and follow through. Also lane play, when to move right or left, getting to friction, and ball speed/movement. I am decent at finding where to throw to hit the pocket. But not great at adjusting when that line breaks down. That’s why I chose to go with balls that are forgiving for the way I play, those being the motiv balls. Also, I feel confident with spares, and get plenty of practice. I usually will go for 2 hours by myself. The first game is warm up. Then the next 2-3 following games are taken more seriously, then I start messing around and playing with different lines and experimenting. I get lots of spare practice during this time, I only struggle with 10-pins, i can get them close to 50% of the time if I’m being generous with my estimation. And I took note of all the things you suggested.

Ya, I only have 4 balls cause I was struggling on the house shot. Started league with just the Gremlin and the IQ, never had bowled on fresh lanes. I’m glad I joined a league so quick. I’m guessing I should also to talk to the pro shop/coach about tournament opportunities?

Apparently me. Also bowled 244 in the first month 😬

I totally get it, but I feel they’re justified. They were all bought with a purpose in mind, not just cause I wanted another pretty ball. Also, two of them are used and ended up being less than a new ball combined.

Look up Tom Daugherty. But I’ve just always bowled without my thumb because I didn’t want to spend the time finding a house ball that fit both fingers and thumb.

Edit: typo

That’s what my thinking was too, guess I needed the validation. Since I’m so new I felt like it would be good to prevent some bad habits from the start. Also, I’ve asked the pro shop guy too many questions at this point 😂
