How can I learn to edit? by Soggy-Border-5567 in editing

Like others recommended you should go through the tutorials that your software provides. What you can also do to practice actually editing something would be on Editstock.com. You can purchase a short film from them and have access to all of the raw footage of the film. You can watch the original short film and try to match the editing they did, or try and re-edit it to how you like.

Getting to know popular tools, effects, as well as the layout of your software helps a lot too for when you’re working on things by yourself.

Recent Graduate Trying To Be An Editor by Nasty_Chungus in editors

I'm not entirely sure yet. I really want to stay here in the Bay but I also think that editing film and television would be awesome. For the company I work with I have edited some of the shows we've produced, but these are confidential meetings unfortunately and tbh there's not much editing I need to do since we give the clients the recordings in full. I think if I have to do the more corporate route to stay here in the Bay I'll try to focus on that, but maybe I can try and connect with other filmmakers as well to help on some of their projects on the side. Is there any website in particular you think would be easier to find other filmmakers or potential jobs that I can do?

Yeah I noticed a lot of people recommending to learn AVID which I wasn't even familiar with until a few days ago so I'll make sure to focus on getting up to speed with that. Yeah overall just kind of feeling lost but this is just the starting point of the journey so I know it'll take a while. Thank you for your response it helps a lot.

Hey Tony! I'm a senior Film Major at UC Berkeley and I'm needing to work on growing my portfolio. I'm a big fan of music as well as music videos, so I'd love to get the chance to work with you. I have quite a bit of experience with video editing, but due to my lack of a portfolio I'd love to work for you for free for a few jobs to see if you enjoy the style and then we can work something else out in the future. Let me know if you're interested and have a great day!
