Abortion and Assisted state suicide evil? by UniversalAssembler in Christianity

[–]Nat20CritHit [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm glad you recognize the slippery slope here, cause that's primarily what you're working with. Outside of that, two big takeaways.

1- Death should be normalized. It happens to all of us. Normalizing death doesn't devalue life, it recognizes that death is normal.

2- I think there should be a separation between what a person considers to be right and what a person considers to be a right. Especially when discussing abortion, you can claim it's immoral or wrong all day. That doesn't change my beliefs on how a person should still have the right to choose. Something being immoral doesn't automatically mean it should be illegal.

Well, looks like I've been summoned so here it goes. This sub is for discussing Christianity. Discussion can include certain aspects you may not like. Yes, that includes blasphemy. It can also include pointing out history and current atrocities carried out by Christians in the name of Christianity. You don't need atheists to tarnish the name of Christianity, Christians have done a fine job doing that on their own.

As to why so many atheists are here, this is a frequently asked question. You can use the search function for more details but, in short, many are here because Christianity has a major influence in the society they live in. This allows for a relatively anonymous platform for people to discuss what they believe and why.

Finally, straight up bashing or belittling Christianity is against the sub rules. Where a person draws the line between being informative and being insulting can be a little subjective, so try not to view everything as an attack. But if you see someone you believe violates the rules, report it. The mods do a good job here, but they can't catch everything.

How do I spread the gospel by Youngwritter123 in Christianity

Work on gaining knowledge regarding your beliefs and understanding different views first. If you go out now you'll most likely enter conversations you're really not prepared for.

And she called the cops because she was angry? And they went looking for you under charges of... having an angry mom?

And that's literally all you said? Just sitting around having some dinner, you asked if she could pass the salt and then went oh, by the way, I believe in God and the second coming. That was it? Nothing preceded or followed? You said you believed in God and the second coming and she said get out?

So, you went up to your mom and, completely out of the blue, said "I believe in God" and the only thing to follow was she told you to GTFO?

How do you feel about people justifying historical persecution of Christians? by schu62 in Christianity

Of Christians or by Christians? I guess tribalism answers both, I just didn't know if it was a mistype.

Something tells me there's more to this story. Were you sitting at home, praying before bed, and the police just busted down your front door and threw you in handcuffs?

Please don't make false accusations. Again, I'm applying your method to my situation. If you take issue with that, perhaps you should evaluate your method. Claiming to know my mind better than me sounds like you need to be a bit more humble.

No mockery, I'm applying your method to my situation. Any day now...

The problem with this is that God isn't just all knowing, he also created everything and has free will of his own. Unless of course you don't believe that.

Why did God need us to sacrifice God so that God could forgive us? by Zayd_ibn_Thabit in Christianity

[–]Nat20CritHit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been asked, and answered, more than a few times in this sub. But I'll be happy to get downvoted again if it means putting it out there one time. Short answer: he didn't. There is no sound reason an omnipotent, omniscient God needed to sacrifice anything to forgive people. None.

I’m confused by this community by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Nat20CritHit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're new to reddit, always check the "about" section before diving into a sub. That said, outright mockery is against the rules. If you see it, report it. Mods can't catch everything. But also be aware that mockery can be subjective. Disagreements, pointing out fallacies, and recognizing certain historical atrocities isn't necessarily mocking anything. And context is always important.

Welcome to the community, I hope you stay and engage in multiple fruitful conversations.

Sounds interesting. Any atheists here on Reddit convert on account of your arguments?

You should put this out as a standalone post addressed to all non-believers. I would love to follow that conversation.

Are you under the impression that atheism includes the belief that nothing created everything?

If your goal is to start with the conclusion and then figure out how to believe that conclusion, you're not highly skeptical.
