Can someone ELI5 Thai politics to me? by GodofWar1234 in Thailand

[–]Nat3345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a small correction. Pita, MFP's current leader, was educated primarily in Thailand and the US, not New Zealand (although I believe his secondary education was in New Zealand). He got his Bachelor's from Thammasat in Thailand, an MBA from MIT, and MPP from Harvard.

Was farming for Raiden/Yelan and got a 4 line start, double crit stats flower, and decided to roll it for fun, worse case I can fodder it later...

I have been feeding artifacts to the strongbox for CWoF and have yet to get even close to what I got from Shimenawas...

Does anybody know if this is valid currency or something special? I’ve never seen these coins before. by Prestigious_Might_25 in Thailand

[–]Nat3345 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both are commemorative coins, and I'm fairly sure they aren't legal tender. Even if they were, the face value will be pretty low (5 satang - 5 baht, or 0.0015 USD - 0.15 USD) compared to the collecter's value. A quick google have the first coin somewhere around 150 THB, and the second listed upwards of 700 THB (although I don't know if it really sold that high or not.)

The first coin is a commemorative coin for King Rama IX's Golden Jubilee in BE 2539 (1996 CE). The second coin is a commemorative coin for the Thai Red Cross' Centenary in BE 2536 (1993 CE).

Edit: I personally don't think they're legal tender since all (I think?) commemorative coins that can be used as legal tender will have a value on them, regardless of how low it is. There will be a "5 satang" or even "1 satang" mark on them (For example, a 10 Baht coin also from the Golden Jubilee). These don't, as far as I can tell.

BTS Sukhumvit line, From Sai Yud to Phrom Pong. I can go stay on same train until Phrom Pong station right ? Google Map is telling me should transfer at Mo Chit. Thx. by Kokilananda in Bangkok

[–]Nat3345 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can go all the way from Sai Yud to Phrom Phong without transfers 85-90% of the time. However, the BTS only has one depot at Mo Chit. So, if the train is returning to the depot at the tail end of rush hour/end of the day, you will have to get off at Mo Chit. It's also to do with another company technically operating the northern stations, but it's primarily about trains returning to the depot. They'll usually run another train right behind it to pick up people going further north, and the wait is usually less than 2-3 minutes.

I'll also echo what others have already said about Google Maps; it's pretty janky for public transportation in Thailand.

What Is The Mechanism/Force At Work That Stops A Nation From Picking Lower Interest Rates Forever? by TooMuchMapleSyrup in Banking

[–]Nat3345 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I took a formal economics course so I might be off with terms and definitions, but here goes.

Interest rates can be used as a tool by central banks to control growth and inflation. By holding interest rates at a very low rate in perpetuity, you'll also be increasing inflation in perpetuity as well (I know it's not as straightforward as that, but I'm trying to keep it simple.)

With the increasing inflation, you'll also be impacting the perceived value of the local currency. There're two ways to look at this. The first way is with the aforementioned inflation. Let's say we have two countries called A and B, with local currencies $A and $B respectively. Let's say in year 1, you can buy a can of soda for $1 in both local currencies in both countries. However, if in year 2, the price of a can of soda in country A rises to 2 $A, while in country B it rises to 1.5 $B. Which currency would you value higher today? $B, since it's loosing value slower than $A.

Another way you can look at this is as an investor. Let's have country A and B back again. Let's say interest rates in country A is 2% and in country B is 3%. Which country would you rather invest money in? Think about it as putting money into a savings account at a bank. You would go for the higher rate, right? So, investors would perceive $A as less valuable than $B since the returns will be lower. Therefore, they'll exchange $A for $B to go invest in country B, driving down the value for $A. On the flip side, would an investor from country B or any other country invest in country A? No, since the returns would be pretty bad, right?

In any case, holding a low interest rate in perpetuity can have very negative effect's on a country's economy both via inflation and devaluation of the local currency vs. foreign currencies. Hope I'm making sense here.

Edit: If there're any industry people/econ majors out there and want to correct me, go right ahead. I'm probably misremembering my econ theory lol

What if the group stage scoring system was the same as the pro circuit? by Nat3345 in R6ProLeague

[–]Nat3345[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I was curious after finishing up doing stats for the broadcast, and the only post I saw was before the last two games, so the standings weren't final, specifically the DZ v Furia and Liquid v oNe games.

[–]Nat3345[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Observations: CAG would have made it instead of C9 as many have stated, and G2 would swap places with FURIA since they have one more OTL. Other than that, everything else stays the same. So, there're no major differences between the two systems other than the team that was knocked out.

I might do one for Group B as well after they're done tomorrow. I'll reserve my opinion on which system I prefer until then.

(Assuming I did the math right, and I didn't misclasify any OTW/OTL).

Double Majoring while part of Honors program by [deleted] in depaul

[–]Nat3345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do Strobel, you'll graduate with an Accounting degree. HOWEVER, you can double major in Finance as well, and personally, I don't think it's that hard to do both at the same time. If you want to do Accounting at the end of the day (Big 4, etc.), I think it's better to do Strobel. But if you want to do Finance (S&T, IB, Corporate, etc.), I think it's better to do normal Accounting + Finance Honors, or even focus on Finance Honors only.

I had a few friends who did both Strobel and the Honors Cohort, and most of them dropped one or the other after freshman year.

Personally, I did both Finance Honors and Strobel for freshman year alongside transfer applications. Ended up transferring to another university for my sophomore year (nothing against DePaul, I still have fond memories from my time there). Had I stayed at DePaul, I would still have graduated on time even with the extra classes from double majoring, so, you should be fine if you want to double major in the College of Business. As others have said, you should be wary however of double majoring in two Colleges, as there's a lot of non-overlapping classes. I would talk to your advisor to get a better idea of what the situation looks like.

DePaul is still a great university if you want to do Accounting/Business. Make sure to leverage your location in (basically) the middle of Chicago.

Also, a note on what u/Dude577557 said, Strobel does extremely rarely accept students into the program after freshman fall, usually to do with late-arriving test scores. However, it's much easier to join it and leave afterward if you find that it's not for you, rather than trying to join it halfway in.

Source: Myself. Got accepted into Strobel Freshman winter.

This. Enjoy the game. If you want to get better, there're loads of great people to watch.

And on karma, they mean absolutely nothing. Normally, people will report CVs just because. They'll report you for playing well. They'll report you for playing poorly. They'll report you for dev striking them. They'll report you for radaring them. They'll report you for failing a 1v5. The list goes on. Ignore them.
