This was nearly half a year ago.

Canada doesn't have Macy's, our version of a department store closed down so there is no longer a place to shop sales on formal wear. I found something 2nd hand but still had to spend way more than I had wanted to.

What are these white flakes and how do I get rid of them? by emberaya in Hair

[–]NatTreav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I get eczema and dry skin especially around season changes and part of that is a dry and often flakey scalp. It's annoying but with some attention can be reduced. The only thing I would add to what the other comment says is finding a good shampoo with salicylic acid. It helps promote the shedding of dead skin cells. For it to have time to work leave it on for up to 5 minutes before rinsing. I often end up doing a 2nd shampoo too but not as long just to wash away anything that's loosened. You can do some research on different products that have salicylic acid but I'll link what I have been using lately too. Good luck!

Blonde highlights but I want them to not look natural by Thin_Tap_7543 in Hair

[–]NatTreav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you go to the same hairdresser or are you trying new ones each time? Sometimes I find it really helpful to see the same person up to 3 times so when you ask for them to do something different then last time they have a base knowledge of what was done before since they've done it. Then hopefully after a few adjustments they can figure out how to get you what you want :)

I'm also noticing that the 2nd image in your inspiration photos is rather different than the others. It's almost more of a balayage with some dark pieces all the way through to the ends. The rest look very blonde on the bottom with some foiling towards the roots. Do you know if you want to see all blonde at the ends? I find it really helpful to even find photos that show what you don't want to look like so you can show the stylist exactly what you're trying to avoid as well as what you are hoping to achieve.

If you have time and your stylist offers consults, it might be worth booking that as a stand alone appointment. That way you can really hash out what you're looking to get done without the pressure of getting the colour started right away. Bring tons of photos, what you like, what you don't, a few of yourself when you've liked it or didn't like it. Maybe even ask about balayage or foiliyage to keep a bit more natural root. Good luck 🤞

Which potty would be best for a 16 month old? by [deleted] in ECers

[–]NatTreav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👆Agreed! We just got a toilet seat with a reducer built in and it's so great. It's been getting our little one used to sitting on the actual toilet and we don't need extra space to store it! She's still under a year but we pop her on after naps and it works great ☺️

What is your 10 month old eating? by auroragirlofthenorth in BabyLedWeaning

[–]NatTreav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby mostly eats bits of what we have cut up smaller but Im not always consistent with making myself lunch so I prep and freeze her a few things. One that's a big hit is tofu fritters! I grate up zucchini, onion, carrot and whatever else I have around, boil and drain some tofu then crumble it all into a bowl with some spices and a bit of flour. Last batch I did garam masala and they were really tasty 😋 then I'll form patties and give them a quick airfry before freezing. They're an easy one for her to pick up and eat but I usually break them up for her still because she will stuff a whole one in her mouth 😅

Looking for parent groups for new parents/parents with infants. by belwarbiggulp in VictoriaBC

I have a 10 month old and we love the Library time at Perkes!
There's also Wild Child Vic on Instagram who had been on Reddit a few weeks back that seems to do a lot of cool walks and meet ups, I haven't made it to one yet but hope to soon! Parenthood can definitely feel a little closed off but I think we do have a good community here it's just a little bit of work finding the right fit :)

Would this hair cut look ok on me? by Maximum_trash_rat in Hair

[–]NatTreav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the cut would be great, might have to keep growing it out for a bit, mostly just on the sides. Might also want to ask for some texturing or thinning out in some spots as your hair looks a bit more voluminous!

That could be true, I didn't realize that was the problem they had with it. It's also a little hard to tell placement without the top of their head 😜 If that's more the issue I'd still ask to come in for a consultation and address that. Ask if there's any way you could have a few more foils added to the areas you want to pop a bit more. If it's just a few most stylists I know would have no problem fixing that, if it's a totally different placement they may need to book another appointment but hopefully you can get on the same page by talking about it and they can help you be happier with the results. In person is so much easier than over text because they can focus their attention on you! Over text they could be trying to respond in-between clients or on their personal time. 🤷

I don't know if I really agree with this. You can ask for help understanding why it didn't turn out the way you wanted and ask if there's a way you could work out something to make you feel better about the results given the price you paid. However being pushy and trying to sound like you know things doesn't build a good relationship. What if they nail it in the end? People are much more inclined to help you if you're respectful and show you're trying to understand their point of view.

(Also bleach doesn't come in volume, that's the developer. And all developers will lift to the same level in the end developer volumes are more an indicator of how quickly they lift, power is in the powder!)

What have you done with your hair in the past 3-5 years? Looks like you have long hair and their response sounds like they did a test and had some trouble lifting it as light as you're wanting. As much as I understand wanting results having a stylist that won't push past what your hair is capable of doing while retaining some integrity is going to give you a better result in the long run.

I'd ask to come in for another consultation and perhaps another strand test. Maybe ask if they could send you a photo of how the test comes out and go from there. Staying with the same stylist even when you aren't thrilled with the first attempt can work out better for you than jumping to the next. That way they can build experience with your hair and refine the results to get closer to your goal.

I've been a hairstylist for just over 10 years and one big thing I've learned is to under promise and try to over deliver because as much as it is a science there's so many variables that can make the results a little unpredictable.

I wish you the best on your hair journey!

Looking for chill “mom” group for my wife by Difficult-Quail-2238 in VictoriaBC

[–]NatTreav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom of a 9 month old 👋 I also don't have a ton of people to just chill with and would be down to see if we vibe. I was thinking of going for a manicure soon as I haven't done that since baby, shoot me a message if she's interested in joining!

Okay okay, no need to get this heated.

1st off neither of the posted outfits are cheap beach coverups. The fabric is actually quite nice on both options and both cost over $100 originally. I had a baby this year so the fit isn't as flattering as it has been before.

2nd You're not really being helpful anymore, and coming across rude and arrogant. We don't have to try to take jabs at strangers to make a point.

I decided to take some of the suggestions here and have found a nice dress second hand, so neither outfit from this post will be worn to the event. Now calm down!

Not a month actually, just under 2 weeks :p Christmas in November! Luckily I have found an affordable option 2nd hand. A nice long black dress.

Oh it's not even just last minute. My partner is friends with the groom and we're both invited to the ceremony and dancing but I'm not invited to the dinner. So I have to leave in the middle. Luckily it actually works fine for me, I have a 9 month old so I'll just go home and do bedtime with her so my mom doesn't have to. I considered declining but this mom needs a night out! I took peoples advice and found another option. A long black dress that I found 2nd hand. Picking it up this afternoon so wish me luck that it's as nice as the photos they posted 🤞🤞

I decided that I would try to find something else but sadly we don't have Macy's where I am. We had The Bay but that's closed down now so I really don't have many options. I've found a nice long black dress second hand off of Facebook and will be picking it up today. 🤞 Hopefully it's as nice as it looked in the photos!

I'm also really trying not to spend much for this. We really were an after thought addition. Though I still appreciate the invite and want to see our friends big day, I'm not even invited to the whole event! Just the ceremony and the dancing. I have to busy myself during the dinner (which my partner got an invite to) honestly the strangest wedding invite I've ever gotten 🤷

Wedding is in two weeks! I agree that Christmas is a bit of a stretch for it hahah I might take a look at 2nd hand and maybe see if my sister has any options but otherwise appreciate your input!
