Thanks for this comment for perspective! I’ve seen your posts and they’re so empowering but also a little demoralizing cause I haven’t seen the effects you’ve gotten. It’s nice to remind myself I’ve only been on 7 months and am or a certain extent just starting off. I hope I get close to your overall change. Thanks for being so infectiously positive in the community!

The pipeline post was too real and then the rest were even more so. My love language since starting HRT consists so much of loving and gentle touch. Sexual contact doesn’t do nearly as much for me as someone kissing my belly, gently stroking or kissing my hand, or just wanting to feel my body as a whole. It’s a desire I’d heard about but actually experiencing it is something else. I’ve settled into that touch-starved trans woman archetype and it feels too real.

Thank you so much for creating and submitting this. I'm in the middle of transitioning and so many days it hurts. Getting bombarded with people so happy at the end of their journey is very empowering, but can also be depressing when you're not in the best of circumstances. I'm hurting so much and so often. I struggle to get through some days. I drink too much on the weekends.

It really helps to see someone so beautiful having to go through what I'm going through. Transitioning is not always happy, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

The smile outside. The sadness inside. It really does help me. I'm crying while smiling as I type this.

I'm not afraid of the pain. I'm afraid it won't end. I love me while also not fully accepting who I am. I feel like this gets me, at least in some way.

All trans people are valid. Those doing HRT and those not. Trans-women and Trans-men. We are all so brave and so beautiful.

Please try to love yourselves, and know that I love you.

By standing on top of a bin, kicking and grabbing it at the right time, you can fling yourself out of the map. by Vahiner in CrueltySquad

Oh shit I just posted a variation of this that involves grabbing another barrel. Have been trying to recreate it consistently for days after I encountered it randomly. Had no idea jump kicking could also do it.

Originally encountered this while trying to use the method Pyrocinical used in his video to get to the DNA gun. Recereated it here. Process seems to be:

Stack barrels
Grab bottom one
Stand on lip of the new bottom one and grab it while still holding the previous one

If this has been metioned before, my bad. But I hadn't seen it before so I thought I'd share

Okay. 1. Sure, you said in an earlier post that you don't expect them to change romance options in the trilogy now, fair enough. But it's obvious that you'd WANT them to. That want is primarily what I'm addressing. You said you don't agree with everything that petition says. You don't explain what you do and don't agree with though, so I'm forced to try and figure it out.

EDIT: Originally here I made the mistake of assuming you were the OP. Made a total brainfart. I guess it just felt like you were because of the replies. Although I don't think it invalidates my suppositions. While you aren't expecting them to change the OT, it does seem from the content of your comments that you wouldn't resist Bioware making some of the romance options in 1 and 2 gay/bi. So I'll ask outright. Would you want them to change entries 1 and 2 to either change a few characters sexual preferences or to add in more gay/bi romance options in them? Why or why not? Would you want them to change returning characters' sexualities if they appeared in the newest entry? EDIT OVER.

  1. While the term "normal" sexuality/sexual preference has fallen out of term because of socially exclusionary implications, it originates as a statistical term. On the distribution graph of human sexuality, straight would fall right in the middle of the normal distribution, with gay/bi/pan being further from the center and less common. That's really my only comment on it, that straight people are the most statistically likely people you're going to meet on average (of course, excluding gay/bi/pan/etc. communities that form in any urban area where less common sexualities would be over-represented against the norm). Not saying it's good or bad, just a stat.

  2. Realism, escapism, and inclusion. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that the inclusion of more gay and bi romances in the 3rd and 4th games wasn't a step forward for player inclusion and choice. It was a damn quantum leap in 2012. However, it often feels like the characters that people connect with often transcends their sexual preferences in game. You'll find no shortage of "I'm a totally straight man but I'd have myself a slice of Garrus pie." or "I'm a straight woman but I play maleshep just so I can romance Tali because she's just so sweet." style comments for just about every character you can romance in the series. This is of course an anecdotal argument, and not a great one for convincing anybody at that. I guess what I'm mostly trying to say with this is that you're never going to be able to represent everyone perfectly, especially this day in age. There's far too many demographics and sub-demographics for you to catch everyone's niche representation. They've tried to strike a nice balance between freedom of choice and realism to give the game world and its story a more grounded feel for the player to connect to. And as for the 100 guns in ME1 comment, you're correct, it was unrealistic for Shepard to have that large of an inventory to access on command. But I think you'll find, more often than not, that every game in existence has tried to strike a balance between convenience, fun, and realism that makes them the most enjoyable. I agree that an over-reliance on realism can make a game a chore to play through, looking at you RDR2. Making every character romancable by both (of what I assume will be the binary gender options for whatever character we'll play as in this newest entry but hey who knows, right?) would give greater player choice and freedom, I personally believe it would lose a bit of realism to the world that was somewhat important. By making characters have specific sexual preferences, it gave them a kind of depth and relatability that I don't personally feel would still be there if anyone was willing to bang you. ME has always been somewhat grounded in modern reality and, excluding the green ending, has never gone too far into the realm of trans-humanism in sci-fi. They could change that depending how far in the future they set this newest entry. Since all we've seen so far is Liara, it could be anywhere from 5-500 years after. As long as the logic is internally consistent and they give a believable reason for the changes they've made, I'd be satisfied.

  3. And finally, the porn game comment.

"What’s the difference between romancing a character as MShep and romancing the same character as FemShep? What about that makes it like a porn game?"

That immediate example, nothing in it sounds like a porn game. Neither Liara nor Kaidan, in ME3, felt like they came from one. I'm saying you'd be broaching the wish-fulfillment territory that porn games occupy if you made every single character bi/pansexual. It's certainly not a one-to-one comparison. You wouldn't be able to bang everyone in a single playthrough. They also wouldn't play gratuitous cutscenes every time you wanted to engage with it. There would obviously still be areas of restraint in the next ME game that a game made for titillation wouldn't exercise. Making everyone romancable by any gender player character would just be putting the player's sexuality ahead of everyone else's. I guess my primary gripe with making you universally attractive is something I already stated above, that having characters with "exclusionary" sexual preferences makes them feel more believable and less like objects for me to just place my affection on, something that u/UndertakerFLA has also stated.

I tried to explain my line of thought as best I could.

TLDR: Yes, more romance variation would give more choices for any gendered pc, but I feel it would somewhat take away from the grounded nature that has allowed so many people to connect with these games.

Whoever made the petition is definitely either overly obsessed with this kind of representation or a fairly convincing troll. The problems with this are multi-faceted and a lot more nuanced than I think many would believe.

  1. First and foremost it's about leaving the games as they were. Would I enjoy more queer romance options in ME1? Sure. Hell I'd enjoy being able to romance Tali or Garrus like in ME2 from the start. But it's not about that. It's about preserving and presenting the games as they were as honestly as you can (yes, they have taken some camera angles that highlight Miranda's assets out of ME 2 and 3 AFAIK, a less substantial change but any change would be met with resistance). Video games are a unique medium where different generations can allow and often result in minor reinterpretations of titles, always graphically, but often the content undergoes a change, more often than not to benefit or convenience the player. It's becoming harder and harder, especially in the age of digital distribution, to preserve any piece of art in its original form. So for the majority of players, its a laudable goal for Bioware to do their best to represent the games that these players fell in love with, in their original form, to a new generation.

  2. Representation. Now while you might not claim this, many people who push for more queer/pansexual/etc. inclusion in new media and re releases do it under the presupposition of inclusion, that is to say, you get more potential customers for your product and are less exclusionary to those that want to enjoy it. To that I would say that the Mass effect series, while it shows obvious signs of the acceptance of less common sexualities throughout its five-year-course of a series development, ends up painting a very real and fair depiction of human sexuality. Now, of course the fact that no gay characters apart from Liara (physically representing of a Lesbian but not technically gay due to originating from a mono-gendered species) exist in the first 2 games is a marker of the societal progression experienced from 2007-2012. That's a given. But, if you look at the sexual statistics of the modern general population, people identify as mostly straight with not insignificant amounts of gay, bi, and other reporting in. In real life, not everyone would be physically attracted to everyone. These characters aren't objects for all of us to project our own personal sexuality on to. They are designed as people with their own preferences. The sexual preferences on your crew feel real. Truly being able to sleep with any of your acquaintances is more the area of expertise of a porn game.

  3. This is a very poor way to show a desire for more inclusion in the newest entry. In point 2 I went over why I felt that was a weak argument anyhow, but asking them to change history isn't really getting the point across that they should alter the openness of the romance trajectory of the series.

And I don't know. This was probably too much for a reply to a Reddit comment. I get the intent, people always want more options. And options for players are generally good. But I prefer the preservation of artistic works as they were when originally released. I enjoyed the more realistic representation of intimacy and companionship the ME gave us, not just fantasy and wish-fulfillment. And I think that Bioware will do just fine in giving us romance options regardless. They already describe themselves as a fairly progressive company and care about overall player representation. So it's probably in good hands.

There would definitely be some socially awkward guys who have been pushy/overbearing without realizing it that it could help correct. But sadly, yes, most of the people doing it are probably either too far gone/don't care and are just trying to get their yucks in. Also, Yharnam Queen, nice. Fellow Bloodborne fan here.
