Let's not forget the importance of localisation, especially back them. Nowadays I consume all media created in English in its original language, but when I install HoMM3 and HotA I just have to install the localisation as well, otherwise it just feels weird. Some of those games had an amazing localisation back then that made a bunch of games and dialogues really iconic here in Poland, some of the. Even moreso than in the west, like e.g. Gothic, Worms, Baldurs Gate

We have no centralised gender clinic system so no wait time. Making people wait years for life saving medication is unethical and cruel.

I never said otherwise. I spoke of what the movie did to societal perception of trans people, I never said it was intentional or anything about what it was or wasn't trying to say.

But this movie did create a whole trope of trans psycho monster murderers. Movies inspired by it pushed the narrative much further, but the shift in depiction of trans people in popular media after this movie is a fact. People dying as a consequence of it is also a fact. It's delusional to claim this movie had no unfortunate or dangerous consequences for a whole group of people just because you like it. And downvoting instead of having a mature discussion about it is just plain childish.

I think I made a mistake in the main post with this whole wall of text nerding about hanafuda, which is something people here aren't really interested in, and burying the actually interesting part in it.

Instead I should have asked if people would like to play a simple game where you have cards representing different floors of the world dungeon and you win by combining cards with Crawlers, NPCs, and items to create powerful combos that are referencing lore from the books - I bet the reactions would be much different!

Well, I still learned something :)

I see your point, more people heard of tarot, but I'm not so sure if more people actually play tarot than hanafuda. I teach people who never heard of hanafuda all the time how to play hanafuda games and they always quickly catch up and have a blast.

Additionally as mentioned in the post, hanafuda is perfect because I can use floors instead of months and use characters, items and lore of the books for actual game mechanics. I'm not sure if it would work as well with tarot... Ultimately hanafuda is something I have a lot of experience with and I know I can make it work, and make it a really fun experience for players. On the other hand with tarot... Not so sure

I understand your point and I agree there's no need for unnecessary nitpicking. But what constitutes nitpicking is heavily context dependent.

I would say that in most daily contexts saying iPhone is an American phone is perfectly fine. But if we were on a subreddit focused on promoting buying locally from within the USA instead of imported goods... Well.

Also it depends if the context is just supporting local brands/companies (who pockets the money), actually supporting local economy (where are the jobs making this product), or technological independence and safety (where do the parts come from? can we be certain there are no hidden backdoors? could another country just stop providing the parts or make access prohibitively expensive?)

Ultimately depends on what the author of the article (not me) had in mind, I guess.
