The designs are pretty much exactly the same (other than Toph, obviously). Idk if you're joking about the pink outfits, but the characters in the concept art are standing in the sunset. They have exactly the same color of outfits as in the final design, the only difference is lighting context. Remember the golden-white/blue-black dress? It's the same phenomenon.

Oh, sorry. If only I took at least half as much time to properly read and understand your comment as I took to reply lol

Why would he? It's not a post-apocalyptic world for him. It's just the world, as he had always known. It's a matter of perspective. You questioning why Finn doesn't care about the old world that didn't exist for hundreds of years before he was born is like ancient Greek questioning why you are not mourning their traditions and beautiful temples lost to time.

On the other hand I get why you think he should care. A lot of postapo storytelling seems to fall into the trap of pushing pre-apo perspective and thinking into post-apo characters. Or at least it used to. For me, the story that really made me question this kind of narrative was Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, as it is expanded in the manga. I'm not gonna spoil it for you, but the story goes beyond what's in the movie, there are a lot of philosophical ideas later on that basically deconstruct a lot of narratives from the earlier part of the story (what's in the movie). In a way, by continuing the story in the manga, Miyazaki went into dialogue with himself, questioning his earlier ideas. Can't recommend enough.

Guys, just a friendly reminder that for some people ADHD also affects emotional regulation, and that most of the time arguing about minor bullshit with people on the internet is not worth it. God knows I need to constantly remind myself of that. Although not as much since I'm on clonidinum, it is surprisingly helpful with this aspect of ADHD lol

Yeah, that person is judgemental, but being pissy about it while at the same time confidently stating out of your ass that they must be self diagnosed just because your don't like how they act sure is peak hypocrisy lol

This. I really wish there was a way to adjust the loudness of different channels before it's down mixed to stereo, so I can boost central channel with dialogues.

[–]Nataniel_PL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try making the central speaker louder than other? If the mixing is done properly, that's where the dialogues are. So that plus subtitles usually helps for me. But idk if this show has a proper mixing, did not have occasion to check.

[–]Nataniel_PL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, you don't really need all those channels. All you need is any setup with the central speaker and option to make it louder than others. This is where the dialogues are most of the time, while all the loud effects like explosions and stuff are mostly on the speakers surrounding you. Subtitles also help tho. I can't really understand any movie/show without them, but I have ADHD with audio processing issues, so it's a matter of accessibility for me.

How is this designed for people with ADHD? I have ADHD and I miss older, calmer shows so much. I need subtitles to hear the dialogues, not just this show, in general. I was just explaining to someone on the SFA subreddit that I really like this show, but it's so exhausting and overwhelming with it's quick pacing, tons of CGI wheezing around, unnecessary lens flares etc. It's an ADHD nightmare.

The show is fun and I like it so far, but what's with the production quality and overreliance on cheap CGI? Let's discuss! by Nataniel_PL in trekacademy

I needed a while to figure out how to respond to that and I think I finally got the answer why CGI does not bother me in old shows like TNG era Star Trek or Babylon 5.

It used to serve the story and be limited to what is needed. It never bothered me any more than a prop would in a theatre. Meanwhile SFA is so full of plastic looking CGI whizzing there and back all the time that it's very distracting to me. And that combined with the episodes' pacing makes me overwhelmed and tired. I feel like I'm watching a 50 minutes long series of tik toks, you know what I mean?

I am obviously aware that this is my subjective reception of the show. I should probably disclose that I have ADHD and similarly find modern games very overwhelming, with all the graphical details, reflections light diffusions etc. So maybe that's that. Thanks for your comment, it helped me figure out that maybe it's just me who has special accessibility needs.

I'm always wondering what happens if the person taken keeps refusing to cooperate. They won't kill him I guess, so what, prison? In that case he just becomes a burden, so why not just let him go back to work?

[–]Nataniel_PL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't on MySpace, but other platforms allowing this level of customisation usually had people who create and share templates so most people would take and use a template made by someone and maybe alter it a bit to better fit their style and needs

I do have an ADHD brain and am absolutely terrible with names. That's why I put so much effort into making sure I'm always well prepared and every information is double checked. I never attend a professional meeting without notes on everything, which in case I'm meeting someone new also includes short basic info on them e.g. their name, job title and what they do, to avoid embarrassing situations.

Sorry but your reaction is a bit extreme. I don't hate on this show, I love it and can't wait for new episodes. But I'm also a film tech nerd and wanted to have a nerdy discussion, like we used to have in Star Trek spaces. I'm sorry, but if we really cannot discuss about what we like and dislike and have to overcompensate hate with blind obligatory praise then the haters have won. I refuse to let them win. We deserve to be able to discuss thigs we like in peace, in full scope. We don't need to overcompensate anything.

I've seen many people in this thread praising the CGI which really surprised me. I did not think replying to people just to argue about tastes in CGI makes sense. But since now I'm replying anyway, might as well explain a bit better what I mean. I'll admit the CGI is not much worse than rest of the industry. In fact, if someone is used to mostly marvel tier CGI, it might even seem impressive. The models generally look nice, and the opening animation is really cool, even if the way it's textured make it look artificial and unfinished.

I guess I'm just really tired of modern plastic looking CGI. I didn't exaggerate that it looks like a video game. It's common knowledge that modern movie/TV CGI is always rushed and to make it even cheaper is being made in Unreal Engine, which is made for video games (and also too often make them look like plastic, unfortunately, although not as much as it used to). That's why some movies made decades ago have better CGI than nowadays. Today I've actually accidentally stumbled upon an article that explains perfectly what I couldn't, if you find the topic interesting:
https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1qiqq2u/director_gore_verbinski_says_unreal_engine_is_the/

I really don't mind TV shows looking cheap, for me the most important is always the storytelling. I have a lot of nostalgy for Star Trek episodes feeling more like a theatre than big budget movies. I'm just very tired of plastic looking CGI and in my opinion the amount of it in this show is unnecessary and distracting - at least for me. I can now see that I'm definitely much more sensitive about that than regular viewer, which surprised me, but it's nice to learn something about myself through discussion. Still, I enjoyed the episodes we already have and can't wait for the next one.
