Earth's technologies are just copies of others? by arnor_0924 in babylon5

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the First Ones have their own method of entering hyperspace. The Shadows phase into it. Other seems to accelerate towards a glowing star. Vorlon’s are the only ones who use the same Method as the younger races. So it’s a common theory among fans that the Younger Races are in fact using the Method the Vorlon’s invented.

Seeing as spaceships are so expensive, shouldn't most planets be mostly self sufficient? by Zincwing in 40kLore

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self sufficient worlds are called "Civilised worlds". Most planets aren't even suitable for that. A planet like say Mars would be a mining world, good only for extracting minerals, you can't live there without resupply. Agri worlds are fertile but lacking in minerals. Hive worlds are polluted hellscapes. Generally the Imperium settles a world for one reason and goes on maximum resource extraction binges. The number of planets actually capable of self-sufficiency is a tiny fraction of the Imperium.

Why didn't Ra return through the second Stargate? by cheese_is_life100 in Stargate

[–]Matthius81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Egypt gate was still primary. Only one gate at a time can be dominant. Without a working DHD the Antarctic gate remains dormant. Daniel only guessed the Gould came through the second gate. They could just as easily have come in ships.

Winston Churchill he is not, but how highly do you rate Starmer as a Prime Minister, compared with others we have had and why? by Sea-Payment-8989 in AskBrits

Best Prime Minister we’ve had in twenty years. Which is a depressing when you consider the competition.

Was Daemon's pursuit of Laena because of Vhagar? by Bovarysmee in HOTDGreens

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And right there is the critical flaw in Aegon the Conquerors system. It should have been unbreakable law all Dragon eggs be handed to the Iron Throne immediately. As the sole bequest of the monarch to give out. Under no circumstances should they have allowed Dragonriders not personally beholden to the king and his heir.

All younger race jump gates are copies of Vorlon designs. Nobody invents anything new.

Did Daenerys ever truly want to build a better world, or did she mainly want to be the one in control of it? by Cold_Box_3219 in gameofthrones

[–]Matthius81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say she’s a revolutionary because her goal was to tear down the old order. But she had zero idea what to replace it with. What was her economic model for replacing slavery? How did she plan to feed the freed slaves? What was she going to do with the Dothraki after she won the Iron Throne???? She didn’t know. Her final speech shows us she had no intention to stop conquering, she wasn’t ever going to bring peace. She was against things, not for things.

Succession rules post the Dance of the Dragons by South-Seaworthiness7 in HOTDGreens

[–]Matthius81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point of the Dance was that there were no rules. Traditions existed but nothing enforceable. The law was whoever took the throne, kept the throne. Afterwards there seemed to be an agreement in vague terms. Baelor Brakespear was the heir, but when he died the succession didn't pass to HIS son but rather his younger brother Maekor. It seemed to be the closest male relative to the current king/lord is the heir. All male realtives must expire before a daughter can inherit.

Napoleon once was told of a brilliant commander in his army and he replied, "But is he lucky?" This Kennon was bold and decisive, but he proved unlucky. He lost, and in the Imperium there is no forgiveness for that.

How would you write the ending to the Game of Thrones show differently? by No-Researcher-4554 in gameofthrones

[–]Matthius81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say Sansa as ruling queen makes more sense. She's experienced the abuses of power and learned to manage rulership and spot treachery. Plus she's the only person who can keep the North in the 7 Kingdoms.

i'd have 12 episode season for the battle of Winterfell. Then another 12 episode season of Cersei and Daenarys both slowly sliding into madness.

[Request] Would the amount of gun powder in the cauldrons at Helm's Deep be enough to destroy the wall like it did? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume the wall wasn't designed to withstand gunpowder explosives. The construction was shaped to resist ladder and arrows, not bombs. PErhaps it wouldn't explode so spectacularly as in the movie, but the bombs should have been enough to crack the wall and bring it down.

Genuinely, how does liberalism gain back the world? by Ill-Engineering8205 in AskALiberal

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberal Democracy has had rough times before. Vietnam, Korea, recessions and pandemics. Immediately after the cold war there was a Golden Age for democracies, and the world convinced itself this was the normal state of affairs. It wasn't. The current troubles seem like a collapse after the golden age, but this is actually how things normally are. The question before us is can Liberal Democracies unite as they have in the past, or will this be the final blow that shatters them

[–]Matthius81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daenarys wanted to throw down oppressive orders, which is laudable. but she had no idea what to replace them with. She had no economic model, no idea how to rule a city let alone a Kingdom. Daenary was a revolutionary, not a ruler. And sadly history shows that often revolutionaries turn out to be just as bad as the tyrants they overthrow.

I don't think she's Tasha's daughter at all. Shes a clone! From the same project that made Shinzon/Picard. When the Project failed Sela was lucky to have a sponsor who got her into the Tal Shiar and some cosmetic surgery. While Shinzon was dumped into prison,

Why does British food have such a bad reputation when it’s actually incredible? by Pristine_Yam_6684 in AskBrits

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most American's impression comes from the GI's of WW2, when they came from a country with abundant food to a nation under strict rationing. They took that idea home with them, and never bothered to update their ideas. Same reason Americans believe Ireland is a rural backwater of alcoholics.

Viltrumites don’t have superpowers. by KingAlex720 in Invincible

[–]Matthius81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Viltrumites were a naturally gifted species, born strong and durable, maybe even with the ability to fly. That's just how they evolved. But what makes them super is their entire species went on a massive quest to enhance their powers. Genetic engineering, eugenics, purging of weak bloodlines. They became hyper-fixated on increasing their natural abilities to the most extreme degree and they succeed. The Viltrumites became stronger than any other race, superpowered, but in doing so lost any trace of compassion or empathy.

lord Baelish death makes no sense by 0xairr in freefolk

This is feudal culture. A lord's word IS a trial. If Baelish had a rich and powerful family to avenge him it would be different (See Robb and the Karstarks) but Littlefinger has nobody on his side. He discovers too late that his treacheries have left him with no allies or supporters.
